  • von Nicolas Darvas
    16,00 - 25,00 €

  • von B. V. Gnedenko
    30,00 €

2021 Reprint of the 1954 Edition. Facsimile of the original edition and not reproduced with Optical Recognition. This treatise on the fundamental limit theorems in probability theory is strong on mathematical rigor, but the presentation is equally distinguished by clarity and elegance. With broad perspectives on the development from the law of large numbers (Bernoulli, 1713) and the limit theorems of de Moivre (1730), Laplace (1812), and Poisson (1837), over the important progress made by Chebyshev (1867, 1890), Lyapunov (1901), and Lindeberg (1922), the book focuses on the progress experts had made on the subject up to the time of publication. This book may be considered a genuine classic.Of general interest is the material in the two first chapters, which may serve as a basis for any rigorous course in probability theory. The axiomatic foundation of the theory given by Kolmogorov in 1933 is here somewhat modified, the probability distributions being specified so as to form a perfect measure, a restriction which removes certain intricacies, notably in the treatment of conditional probabilities and expectations. The careful translation is based on the Russian original (1949. The two appendixes and some fifty extra footnotes give clarifying and instructive remarks.

  • von Alvin Boyd Kuhn
    30,00 €

2018 Reprint of 1945 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. How does gender and the sex drive manifest itself across human cultures? How is the dual nature of humanity; male and female, spiritual and physical, animal and divine; expressed in the tangible world? Alvin Boyd Kuhn, a prominent proponent of the early 20th-century doctrine of theosophy, which sought to find the universal truths that underlie all human religions, here explores the hidden connections across cultures that unify rites and customs found around the globe: circumcision, the secondary status of women, myths about communion with deities, and more. This treatise seeks to uncover a fundamental basis for human ideas about sex, gender, and love.

  • von Abu L-Qasim Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Al-Iraqi
    20,00 €

2018 Reprint of 1923 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Text in English and Arabic. Reprint of the first edition of this medieval Arabic work on alchemy, prepared by noted British historian of Islamic science Eric Holmyard (1891-1959) using the three manuscript copies of the work known to be extant, together with a manuscript of the Persian commentary by al-Jildaki. Almost nothing is known of al-'Iraqi other than that he was probably active in Mamluk Egypt or Syria during the reign of Sultan Baybars in the late 13th century, though his "'Cultivation of Gold' is valuable because it contains a clear account of the Muslim theory of transmutation, written by a man who realized the importance of experimental work. Its main argument is that all metals differ from one another only by certain unessential properties which can be removed by suitable treatment. The metallic substance free from all such accidental and unessential properties is represented by gold. A Very Scarce Book on Arabic alchemy.

  • von Prentice Mulford
    15,00 €

2011 Reprint of 1908 Edition. Prentice Mulford wrote this book in 1889, long before more well-known, contemporary authors began writing about the power of thought. Despite being over 100 years old, this is a powerful book on thought. Mulford explains we have, in effect, two minds: the mind of the body and the mind of the spirit. The mind of the body is limited and fights change. It thinks things must always be the way they've always been. The mind of the spirit trusts in the Supreme Power which made all things and knows that anything is possible if you believe. Long before the law of attraction became widely known, Mulford talked about the fact that what we talk about and think about is what we attract to ourselves. He explains that if a group of people talk about disease or suffering, they will eventually bring disease and suffering to themselves in some form. He also notes that the surest way for a woman to become ugly is to be discontented, cross, complaining and envious of others. He therefore encourages the reader to call on the help of the Supreme Power to get into the thought current of things that are healthy, natural, strong and beautiful, and leave the negative thinking behind. While the book talks about many aspects of the power of thought that will be familiar to today's readers, he also covers some topics you don't hear discussed as much today. One of my favorite chapters is the one on cultivating courage. He notes that courage and presence of mind mean the same thing; and cowardice and lack of mental control mean about the same thing. He notes that courage comes from discipline regarding so-called little or trivial things. It means focusing on whatever you're doing at the moment, rather than allowing your thoughts to scatter in many directions. This focus allows you to have the presence of mind to do what needs to be done, rather than to panic.

  • von Agnes Smedley
    35,00 €

2022 Reprint of the 1956 Edition. Exact facsimile of the original edition and not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. A manuscript of this book was left by Miss Smedley at the time of her death in England in 1950. It has the greatest value both for historians and for the general reader. Miss Smedley spent many evenings over a period of years with Teh, probing his life history, recording his reminiscences and answers to her questions. As a biography of the leader of the Chinese Red Army, therefore, this book is and will remain unique, a priceless documentary source for all historians of the Chinese Revolution, present and future. But it is much more than that. By skillfully weaving the story of Chu Teh into the context of Chinese social and political development, Miss Smedley has succeeded in making modern Chinese history come alive as no other author has done. The drama of the desperately poor peasant boy from a remote region of China who became one of the two principal organizers and guiding spirits of one of the greatest revolutions of all time: this is Miss Smedley's theme, and she handles it superbly. Moreover, thanks to Chu Teh's vivid childhood recollections, we have here an unsurpassed picture of Chinese peasant life and how it gave rise to the movement which finally brought regeneration to nearly a quarter of the human race. Few Americans know China and its people as well as Agnes Smedley did. Her career as correspondent in China started in 1929 when she wrote for the Frankfurter Zeitung and later for the Manchester Guardian. When the Japanese invaded China, Miss medley went to the front with the Chinese Eighth Route Army and later became a field member of the Chinese Red Cross Medical Corps in the war zones. She spent two years on the battleground in China, covering thousands of miles of that vast country. She returned to the United States shortly before Pearl Harbor and here completed the first draft of The Great Road. She was on her way back to her beloved China when she died.

  • von Daniel V. Thompson
    25,00 €

2019 Reprint of 1936 U.S. Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Professor Thompson has written an extremely interesting and valuable book on a subject very rarely dealt with, the materials used by medieval painters, or as he calls it, " the cookery of art." In the first chapter the author discusses the various types of surfaces employed by the medieval painters, such as parchment, vellum, wood, walls, and canvas. In chapter two he deals with the different binding media that had to be used to bind the pigments to the different types of surfaces. The third and longest chapter deals with the pigments themselves. This book, written in a very pleasing style, will appeal not only to those interested in medieval painting itself, but to anyone who wishes further knowledge on various medieval plants, and on certain chemical problems of the Middle Ages.

  • von Murray N. Rothbard
    28,00 €

2019 Reprint of 1963 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. This book is an analysis of the causes of the Great Depression of 1929. The author concludes that the Depression was caused not by laissez-faire capitalism, but by government intervention in the economy. The author argues that the Hoover administration violated the tradition of previous American depressions by intervening in an unprecedented way and that the result was a disastrous prolongation of unemployment and depression so that a typical business cycle became a lingering disease.

  • von Wilhelm Reich
    20,00 €

2019 Reprint of 1949 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Originally published in the Annals of the Orgone Institute, Number 2, 1949. In Ether, God and Devil, Reich describes his process of thinking--which he called orgonomic functionalism--and shows how the inner logic of this objective thought technique led him to the discovery of the cosmic orgone energy. According to Reich,"The cosmic orgone energy was discovered as a result of the consistent application of the functional technique of thinking. It was these methodical, rigidly-controlled thought processes that led from one fact to another, weaving--across a span of about twenty-five years--seemingly disparate facts into a unified picture of the function of nature; a picture which is submitted to the verdict of the world as the still unfinished doctrinal framework of Orgonomy." Wilhelm Reich, (from Chapter One of Ether, God and Devil)

  • von Saint Bonaventure
    17,00 €

2018 Reprint of 1956 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Text in English and Latin on opposing pages. This scholarly bilingual edition is for the student of Bonaventure who requires consultation with the standard Latin edition. This is one of the most distinctly Franciscan of Bonaventure's texts. It was conceived in the wilderness of Mount Alverna where St. Francis received the stigmata. This text is meant to guide a generation of Franciscan clerics through the medium of a new scientific culture, while reminding them that Franciscan life is aimed at true devotion. In this masterpiece, Bonaventure recasts Augustinian illumination along distinctly Franciscan lines.

  • von Max Gerson

Dr. Gerson (1881-1959), who developed the Gerson Therapy, explains how the treatment reactivates the body's healing mechanisms in chronic degenerative diseases. The book incorporates extensive explanation of the theory with scientific research and the exact practice of the therapy, as well as a presentation of fifty documented case histories. Extensive information on diet and nutrition is provided, as well as a full list of forbidden and permitted foods.
