When Buffalo Bill Cody''s horse is stolen, the star of the world''s foremost wild west show travels to Baker Street to consult the star of the world''s foremost consulting detective agency. Like many before him, Colonel Cody takes Sherlock Holmes to be that star. The true sage of 221B Baker Street, who also serves as its landlady, takes control of the situation, and finds both the purloined animal and the two children who had taken the horse for a joy ride 1903 style. When their father is murdered weeks later, the children fear they will be blamed because of their quarrel with him. They run away to join the wild west show leading Colonel Cody to make a return visit to Baker Street-this time with the two children in tow, and to enlist Holmes in the search for a murderer. Mrs. Hudson, will, of course, once again take charge, once again without acknowledgement of her contribution, once again maintaining the fiction of Sherlock Holmes''s leadership, an essential pretense in the male dominated world of Victorian England. As Mrs. Hudson and her colleagues work to discover the murderer, they will find themselves having to counter an anti-Indian bigotry that places at risk the marriage of friends of Mrs. Hudson''s from the wild west show, and Mrs. Hudson''s very life. With the help of her two young horse thieves, now happily rehabilitated, Mrs. Hudson may yet find the way to a just and rewarding outcome.

In The Lost World, Edward D. This book contains five scripts, three of which I owe a great debt of gratitude to Tony Reynolds as they are adaptations of stories taken from his wonderful book of Sherlock Holmes stories 'The Lost Stories of Sherlock Holmes' - The Adventure Of The Medium, The Giant Rat of Sumatra and The Adventure of The Amazonian Explorer. As for the others, "Holmes Alone" is a light-hearted romp, that borrows elements and characters from several other Conan Doyle tales. "The Mazarin Malediction" is my attempt to embellish that oft-maligned story, "The Mazarin Stone". Almost always it's this story in particular that is singled out for harsh criticism. Yet I have always enjoyed the tale, and the others in the collection entitled "The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes". "Malediction" is my homage to ACD's original, written and performed with great affection and enjoyment. To paraphrase Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I have wrought my simple plan if I brought one hour of glee to the Sherlock fan, and the Doyle devotee.

Kelvin I. Jones has been writing about Sherlock Holmes for over 50 years, and studied the real-life crime, criminals and criminalistics of the late Victorians. Kelvin''s forensic approach has already made a significant impact on the Holmes aficionado, previous titles including ''The Sherlock Holmes Murder Files,'' etc. However, the first of this three volume magnum opus on Holmes and crime covers absolutely everything that the reader fresh to, or even more familiar with Holmes wants to know about the murder and mayhem of his age.And there is much more. We learn about the poisoners, the prostitutes, the garrotters, the psychopaths and the abductors; in fact the whole panoply of the dangerous criminal underworld once lorded over by Moriarty. This exhaustive study, with its grim descriptions of the savage criminals of that age, is portrayed in graphic, uncompromising detail. What also emerges is a profile of the real Conan Doyle. Here is a profile of an author who knew more than is assumed about crime; and the book includes an examination of the Ripper, plus Conan Doyle''s theories on the murderer''s identity. Profusely illustrated, with many rare illustrations from 19th Century documents. Overall, a stunning contribution to the literature about Holmes, by someone who David Marcum, the editor and author of Holmes pastiches, once described as ''a Master Sherlockian.''
