Tanner's Trail is about the life of an extremely caring, intelligent, and loving young man with severe medical issues after being diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age nine. The story follows his journey from the little boy who loved every teacher he had in grade school to his goal of straight As through high school.The accounts of Tanner's desire to always be the best including his dedication to his education, the discipline it took to master the art of bodybuilding, and the athletic ability to learn to water ski and snowboard at a top level. His determination to accomplish all his goals never waived. As Tanner aged, his diabetes continued to worsen, and the many medical emergencies took a toll on his overall health. A bout of pneumonia while in college put him in the hospital for the first time. He suffered a shoulder separation, and the pain was extremely hard to control. As he dropped out of college and came home, a downward spiral continued with the death of a close friend, a second hospitalization resulting in his extreme mental problems, and finally his tragic death at the age of twenty-two.

Slagfid bent down and tossed his keys through the gate into the forge porch. He could pick his own locks later. Besides, he had another set secured in a case hidden at the Musty Mule. He gripped his Warhammer and slid into the shadows. He moved quietly around to the back of the cabin. He listened. He moved toward his woodpile and surveyed the grounds in the starlight. His ancestral, subterranean eye site tried to compensate to bring the blurred shadows into focus, but the starlight was too bright. The crack of a twig, and another footfall, were followed by a guttural sound. Suddenly, the air was full of the smells of filth and sweat and...goblins. Goblins? Slagfid felt a thud on the back of his head and the starlit sky vanished.

Sometimes we all need an encouraging word to help us move forward from a difficult situation or to even help us with our own thoughts of self-doubt and insecurity. An encouraging word can be shared with everyone regardless of their age, gender, color, background, or religious beliefs.Some of these poems stemmed from my own feelings and were planted in my soul from listening to my family and my friends throughout the years. I hope these poems will encourage someone to know that they are not alone with their struggles. I want everyone to know that we can be on different stages of life, and still deal with some of the same emotions that causes us to have feelings of self-doubt, insecurity, and fear. I am grateful that God speaks to me through the words of the Holy Bible and through my family. I faithfully believe that an encouraging word can be planted to spread healing. I also wholeheartedly believe that an encouraging word can give hope to others when they are feeling down and may not have the strength to encourage themselves. Just knowing that someone cares enough to speak a positive word in my life, helped me to feel stronger, and motivated me to share poems of inspiration to speak encouraging words to others.
