This is about how a simple change in jobs changed my whole life forever. I thought I had it made, but unbeknownst to me, my life was about to change and my journey had only just begun. Oh, there were plenty of ups and downs in my life, but I didn't expect it to turn out the way it did in a place I thought I would never have gone. Funny how things work out--after all, a love story has its beginnings, a middle, and an end. You just never know where life will take you.

While touring South America, some of the sites in the amazing and unparalleled Brazil, certainly gave my group the chill. To the ones that asked me, "Conny, what happened on this much-discussed trip?" I always answered, "Yes, it really was off the chart." That being said, I didn't know where to start. One day, the idea popped, I'd write the unbelievable story. Finally, I did and found my glory. Anyone who traveled, or in the midst of traveling, perhaps planning a trip, yes Indeed, This book is a must-read. Anyone employed in the travel industry, prior to your next group booking, consider a break, read this book, before making a mistake. Anyone wishing to become a lawyer, perhaps presently studying for that degree, or now employed in the field of law, busy or not, give this book a fair shot. It's been subdued for a long, long time, revealing the truth is not a crime. What I'm about to expose, may not sit well, however, this story has found its path to show and tell.To an unbelievable journey of the good, bad, ugly and much more, the following true tale will open the door. As you're reading, you'll probably crack a smile, shed a tear, or learn something new, and for some, it'll be a valuable clue.

After years of sacrifice, getting through medical school and residency, a young pediatrician from New York with a wife and three children moved to Montgomery, Alabama, to start a practice and grab some of the good life. Proving that God does not make deals, two years later, the marriage was over, the house and job were gone, and the world was about as upside down as gravity would permit. With one door definitely closing, a small rural town in Alabama opened its doors and heart to the strange Yankee doctor and made him whole again. For seven years, they nurtured him like a cat taking in a stray duckling, probably thinking, This creature sure is strange, but maybe it will grow into a swan.

Once the bus was filled, a door separating the driver from the inmates was pulled closed and locked by the driver. A seat to the right side of the driver was for his partner. The driver started the engine and pulled the bus up to a check point. A gate pulled open, and the bus pulled in and stopped. The gate closed behind the bus. An officer exited the bus and entered a checkpoint office. He retrieved two pistols. He holstered his and handed the other one to his partner who did the same. Then a gate at the front of the bus opened and the bus exited the compound to Division II...

This is the story of a family starting with the birth of my grandparents in what is today Belarus in the 1880s. It describes details of extreme living conditions in the shtetls of Czarist Russia and documents the contrast of tremendous financial and social success realized after immigration to the United States.The story evolves with the next generation that was dominated by the actions and narcissism of the firstborn son, Sam. His, for the most part, disregard and disrespect of his father and siblings along with unbridled ambition catapulted him into a position of economic, social, and political power. In short, he was ruthless.The last born, who was more than a decade younger than Sam, was my father Ray. Ray had "two fathers": Philip and a surrogate-Sam. He was dominated by his older brother and accordingly developed a wide range of insecurities which created challenges in his development. On the other hand and in contrast, Ray was born into the "lap of luxury" whereas Sam was born in Russia and grew up with his father's financial and social success.It continues with my own generation and gradually becomes more self-centric. Details of my life of sailing adventures, wilderness living in the mountains, entrepreneurial pursuits/experiences across America, Canada, China, India, Mexico, Turkey, the UK and elsewhere on the globe are described as well. My struggles to discover a balance between "adult behaviors" and taking the time to "smell the roses" are also chronicled.Humor or at least my interpretation of it along with anecdotes and brief philosophizing hopefully make this an enjoyable read.

The Word of God says that the rewards for the prophets, saints (meaning the church), and those that fear God will be given after the sound of the seventh and last trumpet--which sounds, in the book of Revelation, after the kingdoms of this world (or the kingdoms of Satan) become the kingdoms of God. Then Christ will begin to reign on the earth, and it says that time is when the wrath of God (which is not for the church) will come to destroy those that destroyed the earth (Revelation 11:15-18 KJV). So rewards for the church, according to the Word of God, are not going to be given in heaven for seven years prior to Jesus's return but on the earth when Jesus comes back.Jesus said that He will bring His rewards with Him when He comes to reward every man according to His work shall be (Revelation 22:12 KJV).That is when the last trumpet will be sounded at Revelation 11:15-18 (KJV), which is the same trumpet for the resurrection according to 1 Corinthians 15:52 (KJV). So since it says that the resurrection (and or the rapture) of the church will be at the sound of the last trumpet that sounds in the Word of God, rewards cannot and will not be given before Jesus comes to the earth and begins to reign. Therefore, prepare yourself and your family to go through the great tribulation.Hence, the title of the book--the Great Deception.

Growing up not knowing who his father was. Living in low-income housing projects with no stability. Having to always move from place to place so much that he couldn't get comfortable with the thought of keeping friends. Finding out at a young age that people will come in and out of your life for a season or for a reason. Dealing with mental health issues that doctors or people really didn't put on a person as much as going around today. If an issue arose in that era, you kept it to yourself and tried to put it behind you or figured it out without popping a pill. Some would say that a pill will solve all your problems. The result of that is that one pill was to solve your dilemma but brought about several issues along with the original. Then there was the gang and crack era. This divided what was left of the community and broke down homes more than government assistance. Ninety percent of the town were on drugs and having drug babies. Kids grew up with dependence, not knowing why they acted the way that they did. Color rags wrapped around human bodies, claiming areas that they will never own. Life, in general, was misconstrued. Everyone was dealt a ghetto dream. It was handing out false love, no unity, heartache, and death by the number of stars in the sky that one could count on a clear night. What it loved the most was giving away fool's gold. A fake reality within a single grasp, but just a mirage once you think you obtained it. The ones that you would chase to the end of the rainbow for the pot of gold and the leprechaun, just to get reeled into a stool full of crap that never flushes. It turns boys into delinquents and bastards. Girls into sack chasers and gold diggers. The blueprint of life was changing. Bullying was always a part of life for most kids, but with Philthe, he had his hands full of it. Most people will experience death once in a lifetime for their selves and will encounter many others throughout their time on earth. You are born to live and live to die. You will either complete your mission on earth or will be someone else's wake-up call. There are one of three places that you will go after your soul leaves your body: up to the sky, down underground, or you were destined to walk the earth until you completed the task you agreed upon before touching the soil of the earth.
