Currently, a large part of the resources available for research are being directed towards the energy sector. The current demand for energy has led humanity to develop mechanisms and solutions that generate reductions in consumption and better utilisation of energy resources. In the steel industry, there are two pieces of equipment that are major consumers of energy in the form of combustible gases: blast furnace regenerators and slab or billet reheating furnaces. The basic function of refractories in this equipment is to withstand the high temperatures required by the process and keep the heat generated by the combustible gases inside the equipment. Following this line of research and with the aim of saving energy, a refractory composite doped with silicon carbide (SiC) and chromium oxide (Cr2O3) was developed, based on alumina (Al2O3) and silicon oxide (SiO2). This composite was used as a surface coating for the refractories and an increase in their thermal emissivity was obtained. The experiments confirmed that the specimens coated with the composite had a lower temperature than those that were not coated.

Cholera is a contagious infectious diarrheal disease, the severe form of which can be fatal within hours if not treated immediately. This strictly human disease is caused by Vibrio cholerae, a curved Gram-negative bacillus with a unique polar flagellum that gives it the high mobility characteristic of this bacterium.According to WHO reports, between 100,000 and 300,000 new cases of cholera have been reported worldwide each year over the last ten years. However, these figures underestimate the scale of the disease due to problems of access to care, inadequate epidemiological surveillance systems and under-reporting. Of the 724,108 cases and 17,386 deaths from cholera reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) between 2002 and 2006, over 94% of cases and 97% of deaths were linked to epidemics that occurred in Africa.

Wiretapping is a method of obtaining evidence that is part of covert investigation methods and whose regulation has undergone several changes in recent years as a result of the growing use of wiretapping. Although the rules governing the admissibility of wiretaps are fairly detailed and relatively stabilised, the same does not apply to the issue of publishing or circulating the content of telephone interceptions that reach the public domain, namely through the media. The Portuguese have been systematically confronted with the publicising of phone taps by various media outlets, particularly in the context of major criminal cases involving public figures and politicians responsible for non-transparent practices. A harmonisation of rights is therefore required, based on the similar value of the constitutional values identified, through a case-by-case but predictable approach that guarantees respect for the minimum content of the rights affected.

Since the 1940s, sports journalism began to take shape in the printed newspapers of Piauí. With the professionalisation of journalism, sports columnists, even without having attended courses, managed to make the period from 1963 to 1983 the most prosperous for the profession. With football gaining the support of political agents, journalists then transformed the sport into a subject for social debate. Through the reports, we can build a panorama of the activity in Piauí based on the municipalities of Teresina and Parnaíba, where local football began. By bringing up the social events, it is possible to see how football, the press and politics established a relationship of complicity. The 'bread and circuses' of Brazilian society during the military dictatorship, where football was the most important and effective instrument in the strategy of social control, and how much the press contributed to this.

Market gardeners in the town of Mbanza-ngungu are experiencing technical problems (diseases and pests (nematodes, thrips, etc.), soil impoverishment, lower yields, etc.) in their chive cultivation. This thesis experimented with the effect of limestone powder combined with NPK 17-17-17 mineral fertilization to improve, if not maintain, production at an acceptable level and manage nematode attacks. For this purpose, the local chive cultivar was tested. The trial was conducted using a split-plot design with three replications. Data recorded included incidence of nematode infestation, plant length, number of tillers produced per plant, and yield obtained (after extrapolation to the hectare). Overall, the results showed that the use of NPK 17-17-17 mineral fertilizer combined with limestone powder significantly influenced the length growth, number of tillers and yield of chives, and reduced the level of nematode infestation.

The latest reforms in the educational context, following the enactment of the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (LDBEN 9.394/96), whose main objective is to raise the quality of basic education, have adopted the idea of competences applied at all levels of the Brazilian education system. The postulate of competences has become the keynote of educational legislation, making it omnipresent in educational proposals and official documents underway in the country, such as: National Curriculum Parameters (PCNs), National Curriculum Guidelines (DCNs), PROVA BRASIL and the National High School Exam (ENEM). As a result, for years to come, the hegemonic idea of the quality of teaching work may be strongly marked by an instrumental nature, tainting alternatives. Teaching is not reduced to the immediate purpose of applying official proposals (reification), but above all contributes to longer-term effects on the destiny of social reality and the subject's critical insertion into the life of the polis (recognition). This is why it is essential to structure pedagogical work along the lines of what can reinforce the development of ethicality.

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease that affects millions of people around the world and significantly affects the quality of life of both sufferers and their families. To a large extent, beliefs, stigmatisation and prejudice against epilepsy are responsible for these disturbances, because in addition to the need to control seizures, there are also psychological and social factors that affect the lives of those who have to live with the disease. *** This work was developed in partnership with the following authors: Carlos Alberto do Amaral Medeiros, Carlos Frederico de Almeida Rodrigues, Master's Degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, Specialist in Neurosurgery from the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital (HMSA), Specialist in Paediatric Neurosurgery from the Fernandes Figueira Institute (IFF) and Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Bioethics at the State University of Western Paraná. The aim of this research is to take a critical view of the learning assessment instruments used in distance learning higher education courses. The aim is to find out whether the assessment instruments used to monitor and measure the learning of students on distance learning higher education courses meet the objectives of the teaching-learning process. The circumstances surrounding assessment have aroused the interest of several researchers. Assessing is a complex act that has to be done with responsibility and ethical and moral commitment. The search for answers is investigating the following points: What is the importance of assessment in the teaching-learning context? What methods do teachers usually use to assess distance learning students? Does the way in which students are assessed in distance learning contemplate the purposes of the teaching-learning process? Assessment is part of the educational system. The interaction between the players in this process - teacher and student - makes education happen and the difference is the degree of commitment on the part of the teacher.

Law and religion have always been very close and today this reality is no different. With the growing advance of the so-called "Evangelical Benches", society's major issues have reached another level of discussion and debate. Surrounded by dogmas and paradigms, religion and religiosity have been part of society since primitive times, and human beings have manifested their spirituality in different ways over time. On the other hand, the legislative houses have received an increasing number of parliamentarians of public religious confession, which has brought up a very old debate: Should religious people participate in a political career? Is the exercise of religious office compatible with political office? Is the participation of a "religious caucus" in legislative houses healthy for democracy? This book discusses these and other issues, starting with the origin of law, the interference of religion in its development, its role in the development of society, rights and the secularity of the state in the face of the need to regulate religious matters, as well as discussing the role of religious freedom in the face of minority rights.

Mobile mapping systems allow the capture of geospatial data by one or more moving sensors. They are classified as airborne, terrestrial or portable, depending on their platform, and necessarily have positioning and navigation components, as well as registration and synchronization. In general, most systems consist of four main elements: an integration platform, a central computer that acts as the brain of the system, a power supply and an installation structure, which provides the physical support necessary to mount the integration platform to the vehicle. Analyzing these components, we studied the equipment released for sale from 2017 to the present, their standardized workflow and which quality measures could ensure compliance with the specifications of a project's specifications. From their conception to their introduction in the geospatial industry, these systems have been employed in the documentation of urban areas due to the high efficiency and speed they provide for massive data capture.

In the face of uncertainty and global changes, educational innovation emerges from the perseverance of all teachers involved in appreciating their professional practice as a legitimate act of what it means to be a teacher and its scope in any action of social relevance. The theoretical and methodological value is combined to put into practice all that knowledge, which from the results of the research, transcends the professional practice as an inherent aspect of decision making, problem solving and creativity for the development of education. Thus, from the perspective of technology and didactics, a series of dissertations and innovative, pertinent and assertive proposals to intervene in contexts of vulnerability are materialized, which propitiates a process of construction of systematic actions from a scientific representation, for the construction of new learning, through a genuine form of interaction and relationship between subjects. Throughout the text, alternatives for continuous improvement are integrated, an aspect that seeks to investigate, guide and delineate from educational innovation and its own actors.

It is a difficult task to unite Kierkegaard's diversity. There are notably two risks in this operation. The first is that of categorising an unclassifiable author. Too philosophical for theologians and too theological for philosophers, Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) doesn't seem to fit in easily, even if we use a tour de force. The Dane escapes attempts at classification, and escapes in a meticulously calculated way, which ends up allowing him to be frequented by philosophers and theologians, as well as artists, writers of literature and even film directors. The second risk is that, by avoiding systematisation, you lose yourself in the Kierkegaardian labyrinth, playing the game of pseudonyms, and indeed that of the Danish author himself. In other words, the risk here is that, in trying to capture him by using an academic commentary, we end up allowing him to "slip through our fingers" once again, so to speak. In view of this, this work reflects on how Kierkegaard articulates the singular Individual, the Multitude and ethics.

Contamination of soil and groundwater can pose a risk to human health and ecosystems. For this reason, many techniques have been applied to remediate these areas in order to restore natural characteristics as closely as possible. One of these is in-situ chemical oxidation. This technique consists of applying an oxidizer that reacts directly with the contaminants present in the underground environment. As there is a great deal of chemical interaction, knowledge of both the soil, through good chemical and physical methods, and the reagent is indispensable if the expected result is to be achieved.

The aim of this research is to identify the impacts generated by the implementation of micro- and macro-drainage works on the Mutum canal. Given the transformations that have been taking place, from spatial relations to the valorization of the surrounding areas. This research aims to demonstrate what kind of transformations and forms of appropriation this structure has brought about. In this way, the aim is to measure the transformations that have taken place in space, the changes that have occurred at a socio-spatial level and what kind of speculation has been caused by the development. To this end, three actions will be carried out: firstly, to characterize the socio-economic profile and identify the transformations that took place in the neighbourhood during the implementation of the project. Secondly, to verify how the process of appropriation of the neighborhood took place. And finally, to observe the short- and long-term impacts caused by the appropriation of this area by the public authorities.

Pork is currently the most consumed meat in the world, with Brazil being the fourth largest producer. The aim of this paper was to study the relationship between the price paid to pork producers by analyzing the prices of live pigs paid to producers in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. The aim was to compare the differences and behavior between the production matrices of these two states in order to explain the behavior of the prices paid to producers. The results showed that the average prices paid to producers in Rio Grande do Sul have historically been higher than the prices paid to producers in Santa Catarina. Using the Granger Causality Test, Impulse Response Function and Variance Decomposition, it can be concluded that the prices paid to integrated pig producers in Santa Catarina in the past influence the formation of prices paid to independent pig producers in Rio Grande do Sul in the present, while the prices paid to independent producers in Rio Grande do Sul in the past influence the formation of prices paid to producers in Santa Catarina.

This book is the result of academic research carried out in 2009, which aimed to analyse the situation of error in the teaching-learning process, based on the conceptions of primary school science teachers, based on the epistemologies of Gaston Bachelard and Jean Piaget. In this work, we adopted a concept of error based on these two epistemologies, which have a sense of cognitive growth, achieving, respectively, both the progress of science and of the human intellect. The research used the hermeneutic-interpretive method to appropriate the theoretical references and a qualitative approach to collect and analyse the data. At the end of the study, we were able to conclude that while teachers understand the importance of error in the process of building knowledge, they still maintain a traditional practice in relation to this element of knowledge building.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the largest countries in Central Africa, but also one of the largest French-speaking countries in the world, having gained political independence on June 30, 1960. The country has experienced a number of political regimes, from monarchy to totalitarianism, before finally opting for a democratic system in which power emanates from the people and is exercised for the people. The DRC held its first democratic elections in 2006, followed by those of 2011 and 2018, and these elections have created a need for renewal of the Congolese political class, as the population feels that its aging political class is no longer able to deliver the results expected by the population, hence the massive participation of young people in the last elections.By putting together this manual, we are responding to the questions by guiding any young candidate new to the political arena or the race for elections to take into account c

In France over the last few years, the healthcare sector has seen a pivot in its internal connections. Long stagnant due to a lack of autonomy on the part of individuals, and hamstrung by a procedural administration, it is undergoing a transformation thanks to technological innovations. In this work, we will explain how the advent of the Internet of Things and Big Data is enabling this transformation. Health is giving way to e-health (or digital health), enabling anyone to monitor their own health, and the hospital as we know it is giving way to Hospital 2.0, equipped with the latest technology to save considerable time and transfer information instantly. Despite this fundamental change of direction in shaping the medical industry of the future, there are still certain limits to the data and reliability of connected health devices, creating uncertainty about their use.

Faced with the indifference of society, the media and the state itself, this book presents discussions that refer to female imprisonment for drug trafficking from the perspective of feminist criminology. From this perspective, it focuses on considerations relating to the Theory of Penalty in Brazilian Criminal Law and presents how the custodial sentence is carried out in accordance with the Penal Execution Law (LEP). Likewise, it analyses the Criminal Drugs Policy based on Law 11.343/06 and discusses the causes of women's involvement in drug trafficking, emphasising the influence of emotional relationships. Finally, it deals with the daily life of incarcerated women, introducing Feminist Criminology to the prison segment. In this sense, Feminist Criminology contributes to building the citizenship of women in prison by giving visibility to this social problem through female empowerment and the emancipation of women in society. In short, taking into account the social peculiarities of gender within the prison system means that men and women can be subjected to equal and dignified penal treatment.

The text analyzes the processes of education in the penitentiary setting, with particular attention to the experiences of Penitentiary University Poles, in order to investigate how the reeducative function that the Italian Penitentiary Order aims to pursue can be implemented through university study. How Penitentiary University Poles can be an opportunity to revitalize the re-educative function of punishment is investigated. In particular, the first two Penitentiary University Poles established in Italy will be analyzed: that of Turin and Prato. Testimonies from teachers in prison and student inmates will also be voiced, stating how these initiatives can open the doors of the prison and allow contamination between inside and outside. The intent is to demonstrate how the antithetical university-prison binomial can take on a liberating role within a space of confinement, allowing inmates to rediscover their role within the complexity of society and strengthen their sense of belonging and citizenship, promoting the personal, social and cultural growth of each individual.
