In the first part, the book draws a parallel between the ideals of sustainability advocated around the world and the actions taken in Brazil and the Amazon to achieve this sustainability. In the second part, it analyses the environmental management process carried out in the Amazon and Acre, as well as its importance in overcoming the challenge of fostering economic growth without compromising the region's ecological sustainability. It points to the commercial exploitation of forest biodiversity as the main natural productive vocation of the Amazon as an inexorable way out. In the third and final part, it discusses and proposes the formation of a political pact to promote the Amazon's greatest competitive advantage: forest biodiversity.

The serious economic crisis in Venezuela and the facilities for crossing the border have filled the cities of the state of Roraima (far north of Brazil) with Venezuelans in search of food and a better quality of life. Some of them can be seen working at traffic lights or walking the streets of Boa Vista in search of jobs and housing. Many of them have higher education, but end up taking on jobs that require fewer qualifications and the presence of immigrants from the indigenous ethnic group (Warao), some of whom only speak the indigenous language. In this sense, the visit to the Temporary Shelter for Venezuelan Immigrants (APIV) was a valid strategy as a practice that was planned and carried out by the students of the Federal Institute under the guidance of the teachers of the subjects Spanish Language V, Sociolinguistics, Spanish and Hispano-American Culture and Practice as a curricular component IV. As a result, the following are the articles produced by the students from the field research carried out at the shelter, which helped in their training as professionals and researchers and contributed socially to the extent that they offered their time to teach the Portuguese language to Venezuelan immigrants, as well as material donations.

What do children know about death? What thoughts surround their minds when faced with such a sad universe? How do they feel when they lose their parents, relatives or loved ones to death? And what do we know about the union of these two very different universes: childhood and death? Currently, the rates of urban violence, the emergence of diseases and the occurrence of natural phenomena have been responsible for a considerable number of deaths, of which the existence of children who are victims of the physical loss of their parents or loved ones is inevitable. This context led us to research the process of understanding death and children's mourning experience, in order to understand how they elaborate/introject this concept and how they experience the stages of physical mourning. Thus, we describe this evolution according to chronological age, outlining these processes and identifying the psychological aspects inherent in the context, in order to subsidise work with bereaved children and their families, providing them with elements that help them understand and identify the moment their child is going through, thus guaranteeing them adequate psychological care and support.

Currently, the debate on abortion has returned to the forefront due to the outbreak of microcephaly in our country, caused by the Zika virus epidemic, raising discussion about the legal possibility of terminating the pregnancy of a microcephalic foetus. The Judiciary's most recent rulings show a slight inclination towards relaxing a woman's right to decide whether or not to continue her pregnancy, but this is no guarantee that the decriminalisation of abortion is just around the corner.

The productivity of various agricultural crops is intensely dependent on rainfall, as well as its frequency and intensity. The spatio-temporal behaviour of rainfall and maize productivity in the semi-arid region of Brazil was assessed. Statistical techniques were used to identify trends in the variables for the period from 1990 to 2014. The results showed that there is no uniformity in the spatio-temporal distribution of rainfall, given that various factors, including the action of atmospheric systems and geographical position, influence the region's rainfall totals. In most of the territory, maize productivity is low, which characterises subsistence and rainfed agriculture. The correlation between rainfall and maize yield was generally statistically positive, but with low correlations. It can also be seen that maize yields have varied in recent decades and are closely related to climate variability.

The research, developed as a Master's Degree Programme, sought to define strong bibliographical references on the importance of history. We opted for a qualitative approach to data collection in the documentary stage and in the interviews. The work originated from concerns about the possibilities of school education contributing to the formation of a sense of belonging in relation to heritage and collective memory. Through the subject of History, the natural path for forms of Heritage Education was assumed. The work carried out by IPHAN ( National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage) in Brazilian heritage preservation was investigated. A series of school documents called "Curriculum Frameworks", from the 1970s to the present day, made it possible to understand the school's distancing from the subject of History and related humanities. Finally, at the interview stage, History Educators and Specialists from 7 schools in Minas Gerais expressed their difficulties and possibilities for Heritage Education, emphasising the interdisciplinary nature of the methodologies required. In this way, the role of the school can also awaken cultural awareness and action.

Electricity can be generated from different sources, but it is a limited resource. There has been great concern about the growth of energy consumption in the world and the environmental impacts caused by the generation process. Climate change and the greenhouse effect, for example, have prompted several countries to discuss ways of sustainable development. Conceptual content on electricity, the history of the sector in Brazil at different times and in different contexts, population and Gross Domestic Product growth, the relationship between development and consumption in the world, impacts on the environment, prospects and financial data from companies in the sector will be presented here. Interesting questions will be answered, such as: at what growth rates has electricity been consumed in Brazil? Is the growth in energy consumption proportional to the growth in the resident population and economic growth, as measured by the Gross Domestic Product? What is the correlation between them? I look forward to reading it.

This book evaluates the results of the implementation of the public policy to promote micro and small companies in government purchases, established by Federal Complementary Law 123/2006, based on the calls for tenders carried out by the Belo Horizonte Reserve Officers Preparation Centre - CPOR, between 2004 and 2015. The results showed that small businesses won 87.78 per cent of the items up for tender, while medium and large companies won 12.02 per cent. In financial terms, MSEs accounted for 92.78% of the total bids made by the agency, compared to 7.22% for other companies. These figures indicate the absolute dominance of small businesses in the agency's tenders, regardless of the subject matter. They also indicate that small businesses have been able to compete with and beat medium-sized and large companies, which may lead to the conclusion that the implementation of the public policy to promote MSEs in government procurement is achieving the proposed objectives, at least in this federal agency.

Actions resulting from high emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG), mainly carbon dioxide ( ) through industries, cars, burning fossil fuels, among others, have intensified global warming and generated a series of consequences, specifically in the oceans, affecting all marine fauna and flora. Coral Reefs are considered to be the most diverse marine ecosystems due to the abundance and variety of species. Of great social, economic and cultural importance, they are currently being damaged by high rates of deforestation. One of the most obvious causes of the influence of global warming on these ecosystems is the bleaching of corals, as they are very sensitive to climatic variations and easily stressed. However, it is not known to what extent these changes could be harmful to this ecosystem and to the planet as a whole. This study therefore seeks to raise awareness of the means and goals for preserving these organisms.

Do decentralization processes between levels of government always result in greater autonomy for the sub-national levels that receive them? In order to contribute to the discussion raised by this question, this research sought to carry out a study of the decentralization of cultural heritage protection policy in the state of Minas Gerais. The starting point for this process was the creation, in 1995, of criteria for distributing the portions of the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) and the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) that belong to the municipalities, known as the Cultural Heritage ICMS. Theoretical references on the subject were mobilized, especially Tulia Falleti's Sequential Theory of Decentralization and Marta Arretche's distinction between policy making and policy decision making. The conclusion is that the recent cycle of decentralization implemented in Brazil has made an important contribution to giving greater autonomy and power to the lower levels of government. The specific contribution of the ICMS Cultural Heritage is the redistribution of resources to smaller municipalities and the administrative decentralization of this policy.

The Southern Common Market, or simply MERCOSUR, was born out of the need for some Latin American countries to survive in the globalised world. Initially made up of four countries, today this group has six, which discuss, in addition to economic processes (the purpose of its creation), global issues such as the environment. This paper seeks to analyse the environmental protection rules in the constitutions of the MERCOSUR member countries so that, through a comparative analysis based on the functionalist method, with the help of historically contextualised comparisons, it can be ascertained whether there is a possibility of building a single constitution between them, or at least of making joint decisions when it comes to common environmental problems. We start with the legal protection that the constitutions of the MERCOSUR member countries express in their respective texts in order to check for homogeneity in the constitutions of the MERCOSUR member countries with regard to environmental protection.

Broiler rearing systems in Darkhouse-type sheds have been implemented in Brazil recently and have been recognised as a highly efficient production model in terms of protein conversion, but little has been studied in terms of aspects related to sustainability. When calculating the energy used in the construction of a darkhouse, it was possible to see the limitation of the materials available on the market, as well as the description of the energy expenditure for their extraction and processing, which was evidenced by the preponderance of materials used, such as wood, steel and cement. The energy analysis of the production system, with a focus on assessing the system's sustainability, confirmed the theory that raising animals in Darkhouse aviaries is highly productive and energy efficient, making it a sustainable system. Feed, as in the other studies mentioned, was the main energy bottleneck in the activity.

This book is designed to be an educational tool dealing, in a single work, with the "fundamentals" of running a large industrial project, all of the actual management and organization methods covering the basic principles, but also, risk management, meeting management or even the creation of a dashboard. The project management approach makes it possible to meet the competitiveness requirements of companies, and to adapt to market developments, in an increasingly complex and uncertain environment. It concerns many companies, of multiple and varied sizes and fields of activity. Project management imposes, in fact, the respect of a certain number of theoretical models and methods of organization which require common tools: standardized tools of planning, control and scheduling, tools of management and communication. This book provides essential information for any project manager. It is therefore aimed both at students in management schools and engineering schools who wish to familiarize themselves with this discipline, and at various professionals.

Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterised by an excess of sugar in the blood, due to the ineffective action of the hormone insulin whose function is to lower blood glucose. Because of this, patients with the disease have to take a blood glucose test to find out exactly how much sugar is in their blood, which should not be higher than 126 mg/dL on an empty stomach. Therefore, the work deals with the history of diabetes mellitus and its possible remission, aiming to demonstrate through data available in books and scientific works of great impact and worldwide recognition, in which it addresses the entire beginning of the disease from discovery to reversal.

Law in the Age of Technological Innovation, Intellectual Property and Biotechnology is the proposal to create an interdisciplinary postgraduate course in Law to provide lawyers with knowledge about technology, which is responsible for a rich national and international legislative framework, with the aim of filling the gap in teaching projects that do not include subjects on this subject. Thus, with a dual approach (investigative theory and legal practice), based on treaties and legal frameworks, it looks at technological innovations, the rights arising from intellectual property, legal impasses and the legal repercussions of biotechnology - analysing cases, lawsuits and case law, drafting pleadings, instruments to protect companies' intangible rights, NITs and Universities (patents and registrations), in judicial litigation as lawyers, members of the Public Prosecutor's Office or magistrates and extrajudicial litigation, with heteronomous conflict resolution (mediation and arbitration), issuing opinions, equipping the legal professional to enter this labour market, which lacks lawyers and is crying out for professionals specialising in the area.

Aquaculture plays a very important role in the current Brazilian scenario, helping to provide income for small families. However, as it is a new activity, this book proposes an ergonomic work analysis (EWA), with the aim of trying to better identify the causes of complaints of body pain and tiredness caused by this activity. For this analysis, Ergolandia software was used, which is made up of various ergonomic methods. The method used was the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), which deals more specifically with lifting and transporting loads, analysing the weight of the load, the position of the hands and feet, the inclination of the trunk and the height at which the load is lifted.

Water is a natural resource that is indispensable to life, and its use extends to all areas of daily life for every living being. In view of its importance to society, some of the world's developed countries have turned to the reprocessing (purification treatment) of wastewater, in order to make it once again drinkable and effectively meet the needs for which it is used. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo in general, and the town of Mbujimayi in particular, rainwater is conserved only for those needs that require it (drinking, food, etc.), in order to dedicate it to the uses that are most suitable (watering the garden, toilets, etc.) by means of a rainwater supply, which is a virtually free resource that we can recover using our roofs by sizing a recovery tank.

Our central concern lies in the possibility of Physical Education, through its intervention processes, taking on an objective character in the sense of enabling students to form conceptual thinking through generalisations based on detailed analysis of the attributes of objects and the potential concepts represented in them, developing theoretical and appropriate thinking in order to act logically in solving everyday problems, all from a generalising mode of sports learning. This claim to human development does not occur in a neutral way, given that it is a historical and cultural perspective of human formation based on the historical and dialectical materialist philosophical method. Thus, in order for individuals to develop their thinking, understanding the explanatory dynamics of things in movement and contradiction, they need a theory for interpreting reality that transcends formal logic, as this only reaches abstract thinking that is often far removed from the concrete reality of facts.

This research aims to discuss the inclusion of women in higher education through the Pharmacy and Dentistry courses at the Pouso Alegre School of Pharmacy and Dentistry in the educational context of the first decades of the 20th century. This study also seeks to analyse and discuss the difficulties and limits faced by women in the struggle to enter higher education and the discourses surrounding female education, as well as the existence of a possible process of feminisation in the teaching career. As far as methodological aspects are concerned, this study seeks to dialogue with different types of historical sources, including reading and analysing the works of the main local memorialists, the press and a set of photographic images of students (graduation pictures). The research shows that in certain areas of knowledge, especially those dominated by men, such as engineering, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and law, women were already trying to enter, but faced economic and cultural limits.

This work, therefore, analyzes the political and social actions and practices of patrimonialization that culminated in the landmarking of the Açude Velho in Campina Grande/PB, between 1964 and 2001, so that the main question that drove our research was how a fetid and ugly water reservoir was transformed more than a hundred years later into the city's main postcard.

The aim of this study was to analyse different forms of assessment in order to understand their importance and their impact on the teacher/student relationship. The research followed a qualitative approach and was carried out with three teachers and three students from the 3rd to the 5th year of primary school at a public municipal school located in the Vale dos Sinos. Class observations were made, the Pedagogical Political Project was analysed and semi-structured interviews were conducted, which were recorded, transcribed by the researcher and used as research data. The interview was aimed at the following objectives: to research what assessment is and its importance; to analyse the assessment instruments used in order to understand whether assessment is being conducted for learning purposes; to know the meaning of assessment from the point of view of the student and the teacher, in order to understand the relationships between those involved in the assessment process. It is based on studies by the following authors: Demo (1997-2007), Esteban (1997-2002), Hoffmann (1992-2000-2008-2014), Krug (2015), Luckesi (1995-2000), among others.

There is very little literature, especially in Portuguese, on the Celts who migrated to Anatolia. A topic that has always aroused my curiosity precisely because of the lack of academic interest and published material. I can say without a doubt that during my undergraduate and master's studies there were no researchers in Brazil investigating the subject. In the last five years, the study of antiquity has continued to try to develop in Brazil despite funding cuts and a lack of government incentives, which very recently ended up influencing the cutting of postgraduate scholarships and the tragic fire at the National Museum. The following text reflects the research as a whole, which is full of points of contact with the present day, although it focuses on a theme from Classical Antiquity. These moments give us the chance to deconstruct some of the concepts we take for granted and take on the hypocrisies of our societies and our historical moment.
