A study of private hospitals in Brazil - The challenge of rising healthcare costs contributes to problems of access and quality in medical and hospital services. Hospitals are currently constantly striving to improve their performance. Innovativeness, also known as innovation capacity, has been highlighted as an important ally in this mission. Achieving these objectives requires precise analysis and planning. The aim of this study was to find out whether the perception of innovativeness among managers of private hospitals in Brazil is related to the performance of these healthcare organisations. These results made it possible to reflect on managerial aspects that are essential for improving performance in these organisations, especially in relation to technical efficiency and organisational innovativeness (OI) and perceived innovativeness of the firm (PFI), in order to improve the desired health outcomes for the population.

The transition from the industrial society to the so-called knowledge society has brought about a series of transformations in the way entities operate and they are now prioritizing knowledge as an indispensable resource and a differentiator in generating results. It is important to note the degree of knowledge and importance attributed to this resource by stakeholders, which in this study was assessed by managers and accountants and found to be low. Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that the application of the models available for its accounting can lead, and in this study it was effectively demonstrated that it does lead, to the discovery of hidden intellectual capital in the accounts of entities and, more importantly, that the proposed accounting model can be used as a valid model for accounting for intellectual capital, showing an increase in the accounting value in relation to the increase in the value of its assets, and thus bringing the accounting value of entities closer to their real value.

This study addresses the issue of social solidarity in environmental liability, with the primary aim of seeking the effectiveness of this constitutional principle when applying it to issues involving environmental damage. The very definition of the environment as a good protected by the Law lacks precision and consensus among scholars on the subject. As a consequence, environmental damage and the causal relationship between the agent and the damage, essential elements of civil liability, suffer from the same nature of these questions. It is necessary to analyse it in the light of the constitutional text, which distinguishes the environment as a legal asset from the asset over which property rights are exercised. Considering that the relationship between human activities, environmental impact and the risk of damage is increasingly evident, the vigilance and attitude of looking after this legal asset of humanity is a common duty for all of us. Thus, if our legacy can condemn or sustain future generations, social solidarity based on the principle of the dignity of human life applied to cases of environmental damage seems to be the most appropriate.

This book aims to understand the historical process of the collective actions of the deaf of the São Paulo Association of the Deaf (ASSP) between 1950 and 2011, a period that includes the foundation of this institution and the creation of the Municipal Schools of Bilingual Education for the Deaf in the capital of São Paulo. In this context, with the theoretical reference of Alberto Melucci, collected documents and interviews, the author seeks to understand how these collective actions emerged and how they were maintained. It can be seen that the collective actions culminated in the founding of ASSP in 1950, based on the interest of deaf people in having a space to socialise and practise sport. This space, in continuous interaction with other social actors, ended up favouring the strengthening of a collective identity and the political formation of many deaf people, a fact that motivated other collective actions that were decisive for the foundation of institutions for the deaf. In this network of relationships that were established throughout history, ASSP played a leading role in the deaf movements aimed at recognising Libras and defending bilingual education for the deaf.

The book looks at the position of the newspaper Estado de S. Paulo in its editorials during the impeachment processes of presidents Fernando Collor de Mello in 1992 and Dilma Rousseff in 2016, drawing a parallel with the past conflicts between journalism and politics. In all, there were 10 editorials in 1992; two in September, one in October, four in November and three in December. In 2016, 11 editorials were analysed: three in April, four in May, one in June, one in July and two in August. This study uses content analysis to unravel the two troubled moments in Brazilian political life from the point of view of one of the country's largest newspapers. In the end, it can be concluded that there was a difference in the way the paper treated the two cases. With regard to President Fernando Collor de Mello, the publication laments the end of the former president's government, while with regard to President Dilma Rousseff, the paper is betting that Brazil will do better without her.

This book explains elements of the Raciovitalism of Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset, which serve as support for the discussion of psychotherapy in relation to those who turn to it. Ortega y Gasset's thinking understands man as constitutive lack and freedom, since, from this perspective, he is faced with things and others, with his "circumstance", having to make himself, build his own narrative in the life that presents itself to him. We have endeavoured, as our philosopher mentions, to seek as much "clarity" as possible, as this is a kind of courtesy to those who come to look at this book. Therefore, the main objective is to lead to a reflection on psychological practice and its object of action.

Proteins play a fundamental role in animal nutrition. However, when their supply is unbalanced, excess excretion of nitrogenous compounds occurs, leading to economic losses and causing environmental impact due to contamination of soils and water sources. The production of enteric methane by ruminants has also come into the focus of environmental discussions, which has put pressure on the search for dietary strategies aimed at reducing the environmental impacts of animal production, seeking maximum performance and profitability in livestock farming.

As the centrality of work in people's lives and its importance in the processes of health and illness are recognised, struggles for decent working conditions and greater access to workers' health care are growing. In Brazil, since the creation of the Unified Health System in 1990, workers' health care has been the focus of a specific public policy and must be integrated into primary care services. Primary care stands out for being the main gateway to the public health system and the coordinator of care. The general aim of this study is to analyse the available studies on workers' health care in primary care in Brazil. This is because users' working conditions interfere not only with their own process of being healthy, but can also influence the health of all those who live with them.

Gouverneurs de la Rosée, a novel written in 1944 by Jacques Roumain, x-rays the pitiful state of the Fonds Rouge area and its inhabitants. The land no longer yielded any fruit, the direct cause of which was the massive felling of trees by the inhabitants, which in turn led to the drying up of the rivers and the Fanchons and laurel springs. Famine set in, disease spread and poverty ravaged the region.A rather interesting work, which I had the opportunity to see on one of the capital's TV stations, and which I also bought from one of the local booksellers. After reading it, I decided to use it as a basis for my analysis.

A complex and multidimensional phenomenon, corruption is now a central concern in economic development. UEMOA is one of the most successful sub-regional economic communities in terms of integration, yet remains one of the regions most plagued by corruption.Using a simple and dynamic panel econometric analysis, this book assesses the impact of corruption on economic growth in the UEMOA region over the period 1996-2017.It shows that the fixed-effect model provides the best estimates. The results of the simple panel show that the relationship between corruption and economic growth is identical across all countries in the zone, and the behavioral coefficients are similar for each country and invariant over time. Variables such as real GDP, GDP growth rate, debt servicing as a percentage of GDP and corruption all have a positive and significant impact on investment. Public spending, on the other hand, has a negative impact. In addition, the dynamic model shows that political instability favors corruption in the WAEMU region.

Today's teachers must be aware that Cuban society is not living through a change of era, but rather is immersed in an era of changes in which the jurist must face civil, criminal, labour, industrial property relations, etc., influenced by technological innovation. As well as assisting commercial, contractual and commercial relations in which ICTs provide new scenarios for action. Law teachers present clear insufficiencies related to their teaching performance, due to a lack of knowledge of the existing relationship between Law and Computer Science, and the consequent use of technological and digital tools as a new means of generating knowledge. Given this fact, the main consequence of the fact that the aforementioned subjects lack digital teaching training is the limitation of adapting the teaching of Law to the current training needs of students. Given that the latter will lack the skills and knowledge offered by ICT to their teacher.

Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency in the world. Iron is an essential element in the constitution of hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein found in red blood cells. In the event of a deficiency of this mineral, the bone marrow does not produce hemoglobin, which clinically characterizes iron deficiency anemia or iron deficiency. The occurrence of iron deficiency anemia in children is linked to several factors, among them the deficient intake of the mineral itself, which results in a series of short and long-term damages to the body, such as neuropsychomotor development, learning, growth, and even the response of the immune system. The World Health Organization estimates that half of the population under five years of age in developing countries is affected by iron deficiency anemia, which makes the disease a serious public health problem. In view of this, this book seeks to clearly and objectively address iron deficiency anemia in its epidemiological aspects, causal factors, risk groups, and above all to present the strategies available for dealing with it in children.

The natural landscape underlies the city; to reflect on its meaning is to come closer to identifying the original reasons for the first settlements and to understand the processes that defined their form of growth. "The natural landscape is the structure and support of the urban landscape", is the central idea around which this research revolves. It proposes to value and protect the natural elements of the city, not only for their functional, environmental and ecological value, but also for their perceptive value, recognizing their contribution in increasing the quality of the urban landscape, which directly affects the feelings of belonging and identity of its inhabitants.

Photodynamic Therapy, also known as PDT, has emerged as a promising antimicrobial therapy. Enterococcus faecalis has been the most prevalent species in cases of endodontic failure. Safe and effective photosensitisers have been studied by many researchers for the photoinactivation of microorganisms. Tannins, from the French tannin, are phenolic compounds, natural colouring agents that are among the major active constituents derived from plants, justifying the traditional use of plants as anti-inflammatory and healing agents. We therefore tested tannin as a photosensitiser associated with photodynamic therapy as an adjunct to endodontic therapy.

The book is divided into four chapters: the first provides a conceptual discussion of geography and territory based on historical materialism, as well as territory and commercial relations and power; the second presents the process of territorialization of the wholesale trade in Palmas-TO and the geography of the Atacadão, Makro and Assai/Extra commercial groups, based on the geo-history of the companies; the third, through interviews with former traders in Palmas, describes the power of the wholesale trade in Palmas and the clash with local commerce since its arrival and discusses the importance and power of commerce in the organization of the territory; the fourth, also through interviews with company employees, sought to survey the relations between capital and labour in the wholesale trade in Palmas and the process of controlling the territory from the workers' way of life. The main result was that commercial companies use the power of capital to exploit their employees' labor power in order to build their "geography of places".

Automation comprises techniques applied to a given process to make it more efficient and productive, agile and effective, minimising human interference in these processes. The creation of automatic systems allows equipment or devices to be controlled by means of electro-electronic devices such as microcomputers, mobile devices, among others. As technology continues to evolve, human beings increasingly feel the need to integrate technologies so that simple devices can meet the most varied needs, replacing the various components used to integrate with the environment with a centralised control system capable of manipulating various variables in the environment. Robotics is an educational and technological branch that encompasses computers, robots and computing, which deals with systems made up of automatic mechanical parts controlled by integrated circuits, making motorised mechanical systems, controlled manually or automatically by electrical circuits. Machines can be said to be alive, but at the same time they are an imitation of life, they are nothing more than connected wires and mechanisms, all of which together make up a robot.

Newcastle Disease (ND) is a disease of viral aetiology that spreads rapidly and affects various species of domestic and wild birds. Among these species, the domestic pigeon (Columba livia) has been incriminated as a host and spreader of the disease not only to production birds, but also to wild birds. Little is known about the ability of pigeons previously infected with a pathogenic strain of Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) to transmit the disease to chickens. In view of this, and considering that Brazilian poultry farming plays an important role in the country's trade balance, it is imperative to begin studies aimed at expanding knowledge about the epizootiology of NDV, linking pigeons and chickens subjected to experimental infection and vaccination against strains of NDV. With this information, the real role played by the pigeon in the epidemiological chain of ND can be measured, especially with regard to the spread of the disease to chickens, as well as adding information with regard to immunoprophylaxis measures, enabling better control of the disease.

Do we sound different when we speak a foreign language? This book presents the results of a study dedicated to answering this question. When we speak, our voice carries a lot of information in addition to the linguistic content of what we want to communicate. So when we speak a foreign language, compared to our mother tongue, we can change our voices, even if unconsciously. This study sought to verify differences between the voices of bilingual Brazilian speakers when speaking English compared to Portuguese. It also investigated whether possible voice changes were perceptually detected by listeners who were also Brazilian and bilingual. The results showed that some speakers have quite distinct characteristics between the languages and that many of these differences are perceived by listeners.

Given the cultural, socio-economic and geographical peculiarities of the quilombola community of Pixaim (Piaçabuçu - AL), the Theory of Transcultural Care and Ethno-nursing emerged as the most appropriate theoretical/methodological framework to meet the objective of analyzing the diversities of the conceptions of health/disease held by the women of this community. Through the researcher's five-month stay in the community, it was possible to identify how distant professional care is from cultural aspects, leaving preventive care and treatment of illnesses to the responsibility of popular knowledge passed down from generation to generation. Nurses must understand that social inequalities/iniquities affect access to health services, which is why these women take responsibility and become protagonists in perpetuating popular care for their health, that of their family and the group they belong to.
