Open this time capsule and discover Key West through the memoirs of two "Military Brats" who landed in paradise quite by chance. These whimsical coming of age stories turn back time to the Key West, Florida they knew while growing up as teenagers in the latter half of the 1950s and the first half of the 1960s. It was after Ernest Hemmingway was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for "The Old Man and the Sea" (1953), but before Jimmy Buffet lost his shaker of salt somewhere on Duval Street (1977). It was during Fidel Castro's 26 de Julio Revolution (1959), The Cuban Missile Crisis (1962), President Kennedy's assassination (1963), the Vietnam War (1964), but definitely before Key West was a major tourist destination. Mike & Diane are connected by their shared experience as "Dandelions", the designated flower for military children. Their stories provide a unique perspective and celebrate the resilience of the Dandelion, as well as its ability to thrive and blossom wherever planted. As "Navy Brats", the children of reassigned career Navy parents, they endured many family moves throughout their gypsy-like childhoods before they were suddenly transplanted into a pristine tropical paradise. These short stories recreate the Key West the authors knew, allowing you to experience what it was like to land in the Keys when the ocean was crystal clear, shrimpers and sailors populated Duval Street and something uniquely spectacular happened almost every day. It was in this setting they fell in love with the Keys and were welcomed into the charming and protective Conch community. They lived their adolescent years on Cayo Hueso (Bone Key) that was brimming with colorful characters, delightful fragrances, and long-lasting friendships. They each fell in and out of teenage love, tested the limits of their youthful energy and became hopelessly addicted to the alluring adventures of snorkeling and exploring the outer Keys where pirates once roamed. Their tales flash back into early childhood and forward into adulthood so you can better understand the scope and impact of their Key West experience. Life in the Keys was slow-paced back then, but those who were fortunate enough to visit or call Key West home were placed under an almost magical spell cast by the vast surrounding ocean, azure blue skies and unforgettable sunsets that reached out and pointed the way to endless adventures.

FROM TORTURED TO ALMOST FREE: A PSYCHIATRIC THERAPIST'S LIFE WITH OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER is the story of the author's horrific struggle with severe OCD at a time when little to nothing was known about this macabre, debilitating mental illness. Honest, unwavering, and raw, the author takes the reader along as she struggles to make it through a day, a day in which ordinary things such as cigarette butts, classroom closets, and the starting of an automobile engine create terror. Twenty years later, this same author, now a therapist to others with this horrible disorder, is armed with knowledge and techniques and the realization that how OCD behaves has everything to do with the underlying beliefs one holds of oneself. Changing these beliefs is essential for getting well. Essential reading for those who struggle with OCD and for all who are determined to help them.

Mal was only six when he found that he was not welcome to join his friends in their white school. He was shocked. No school meant that he could not read the books he felt held answers for him. The rustic Shenandoah valley where he grew up had been a quiet paradise with friendly, helpful neighbors and black and white children playing together. Sad and confused, Malachi looked for answers and questioned his grandfather about the meaning in his name. Life had become hostile and he needed to understand why. He found there can be power and magic in a name. Malachi became a leader in his Oakland community. He encouraged others to plant flowers, clean up trash, and teach their children how to be good citizens. As Malachi's story unfolds, we come to know the honest, loving family who had given him his strength, his confidence, energy, good humor, and his thirst for knowledge. Through the years flowers were Malachi's passion. He loved to recreate the gardens of his charmed childhood. On one Saturday, while planting pansies, he looked up to see Julie, a very serious little blonde six year old. They both agreed that the flowers looked like kitten faces. And there began his friendship of many years with her whole family..... the one which gave birth to this book.

This book contains everything that I have wrote down from my freshman year of High school to current. Most of the writings are what i was feeling at the current moment and for the most part whatever just happened to pop into my head at that time. Some of the writings are dark and some of them are light. Most are pain felt writings but also at the same time helpful saying its ok to struggle in life we all do but the most important message is not to give up. If I can reach just one person with that message that its ok to struggle and feel deeply but not give up, then my goal is half met.

Question for you. Are you from the south? Perhaps an immigrant from another country? Have you heard stories about your homeland from parents, grandparents, or your ancestors? If so, then Myles to Go, Book Two - Beginnings like its predecessor, ...Myles to Go was written with you in mind. Between 1916 and 1970, approximately six million African-Americans left the south for the northeast, Midwest, and the west coast. ...Myles to Go tells the story of a fictional family that leaves Georgia in 1962 for a better life on the south side of Chicago. The novel focuses on the Myles clan, an African-American family who, as part of the Great Migration pulls up stakes for the Windy City. With father Jacob and mother Dottie at the helm, the Myleses head north with their five children to start a new life in Chicago. ...Myles to Go, Book Two - Beginnings continues the story of L''il Daddy, Molly Beth and their forbidden love. The reader also gets a glimpse into the origins of Matthews Groceries, and the bourgeoning relationship between teens from different sides of the tracks, Robert ''Bobby'' Matthews and Brittany ''Cookie'' Abernathy. Book Two - Beginnings also introduces new characters: a neighbor of the Myleses who may or may not be starving their only child; an old friend of Jacob''s whose daughter is a cause of anguish for Jacob Myles, Jr.; and pre-teen Frankie Myles gets in over his head regarding sexual matters when making a discovery in the family attic. Book Two also answers questions from Book One regarding the relationship between despicable Fredrick Dupree and his shy and lovable young son, Fredrick Dupree, the fourth. ...Myles to Go and ...Myles to Go, Book Two - Beginnings provide a stepping stone to a myriad of topics. Both novels speak on the Great Migration, sharecropping, the Jim Crow era, segregated facilities, lack of diversity in early television, interracial relationships, self-hatred and so much more. Both novels show how issues of the past a

Although I waited until of was 58 to start to oil paint, I had always had a desire to try my hand at oil painting but life always got in the way. At 58, I certainly qualified as an adult senior student and wrote this book as a "How To" guide for all the other "Want To Be" painters who are searching for a beginning path to oil painting. The book documents my experiences from my very first art class and my very first painting to my development as an experienced painter. I have included a pictorial history of my artistic development with photos of many of my finished paintings. This purpose of this book is to help people who have had no previous art training successful transition into the world of painting get into oil painting. Oil painting is creative, stress reducing and life enriching but most of all, it''s fun!

The author of the stunning memoir, Moments in Flight [2021], returns with Wolf Woman & Other Poems, a curated collection of 50 poems written over 50 years that span the seasons of a woman''s life. Jo-Ann Vega''s perspective is fresh, provocative, inspirational, and captivating. Each word portrait draws readers into a powerful connection between the author''s thoughts, feelings, and words. The collection''s distinctive organization groups poems by life stage and includes a brief preview of each section. Influenced by Sylvia Plath and the confessional prose-style of expression, Vega writes about the light and the dark sides of life, of being a woman of substance in a world still largely hostile to women''s talents and ambitions. "What was I to do? I wasn''t like the women I knew or worked with, nor was I like my female family members... caregiving was not a natural strength or primary source of identity...No matter which way I turned, if I was to be true to my core being, I had to venture beyond traditional boundaries of gender and culture. It is always going to be a challenging journey for an independent woman with perspective who happens to be gay...I hope my musings provide some nourishment to you on your continuing journey toward wholeness and integrity... Awake to the life-affirming possibilities within waiting to be discovered."Savor the musings of a long time explorer of the depths in search of meaning, identity, understanding and connection.Special features: Wolf Woman & Other Poems is a companion book to Moments in Flight, A Memoir*. Wolf Woman presents fifty poems, none repeated from Moments in Flight. They were written over a half century, from 1970-2020, and are divided into three sections. Waves of emotions pass through people daily with nowhere for those feelings to flow freely. This is my journey through raging waters and how it became a silent river.

In this grief journal, Valenzuela uses her own candid and vulnerable excerpts from her personal journey of grief. Having suffered the loss of her own child, Valenzuela found healing and truth through the process of writing. Darkness, fears and tragedy are shared with cutting honesty, as Valenzuela takes the reader through the chasm of grief. Valenzuela''s need to connect with her son after death was what took her from a surreal and sorrowful state of suspended animation through a metamorphosis that led into a whole new perspective on loss and life. The reader is tenderly guided and prompted to begin their own personal story of loss. The attached pages allow for the reader to express openly their feelings, memories, thoughts and hopes. The message of healing is provided by Valenzuela throughout the book with the hope that the reader will find acceptance of their loss and the ability to both mourn their loved one and live their own life to the fullest once more.

This humorous Children''s Book was an expression for my love for cats. Particularly, my cat named Allister, who is quite unique, quirky and loving, and the first pet I adopted from the Shelter. I decided to write a book, as if Allister, my cat could write about his feelings in a journal. Through my children''s books, I hope children can find their own unique story with whatever, pet animal, they have, either, a cat, or a dog, and learn not only how to love, have fun and care for your animal, but also have good relationships with others as well, in their everyday lives.

Palau, an island nation in the Western Pacific, is a tropical paradise mostly known to scuba divers. It is not a likely site of international intrigue and extraterrestrial doings. Keola Santos, a clever engineer/inventor, used his experimental TimeTuner to jump back a few hours and rescue a missing scuba diver. But that event triggers the hidden extraterrestrial INdez Federation to contact Keola. Although initially only concerned that someone on Earth had unwittingly tapped into Q-energy, the ETs ultimately find it necessary to team up with Keola, Megan, and Salik to follow clues suggesting a sinister alien plot against Earth. This is a mystery that opens in unexpected ways to involve aliens seeking conquest of Earth's oceans. Keola and friends discover a hidden world of flying saucers, starships, undersea alien bases as well as both benevolent and creepy extraterrestrials. TimeTuner is one tale of a much larger story arc involving the guardian INdez Federation and the Sig-Nordics, a long-hidden ET colony on Earth. Dating from first landing in 1450 C.E. in the Northern fjords of Norway, the Sig-Nordics have a colorful history interacting with evolving human civilizations. In A How Pretty Town, our protagonist is an active octogenarian who likes to walk the streets of his hometown of Edmonds, Washington. He's a privileged white man, a competitor still trying to prove himself, a rationalist opposed to what he regards as magical thinking, and a man trying to make sense of and come to terms with his life. He has no urge to commemorate his 80th birthday by skydiving or riding a camel. In the days that remain to him, he wants to post on his interactive blog and on Twitter-platforms on which he is followed, he imagines, by a 100 or so vigilants- an inventory of his mind and his town. And to win a gold medal in softball at the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George, Utah... Having lived all his life in Edmonds, the old man has observed how the town has changed over the years and the ongoing struggle between progressive and conservative forces trying to define its soul. The town is virtually real, the characters are fictitious, and the story is a compelling metafiction that comments on itself at times, employs parody and pastiche, plays with language, and raises questions about the reliability of the narration.
