Between "Heartache and "Hope" Lies Uncertainty. That Space Where Painful Memories Find a Quiet Place to Settle.Therein lies a brief respite, but true equilibrium is elusive. So, one tries again and leans heavily into "hope." However, daily events shred any semblance of normalcy. The murders of innocent men, abduction of babies to mention a few. So, I write, hoping that my passion on the page will encourage others to express buried emotions, "A bankrupt heart is a barren place" so, I write.

Young journalist Tanímò̩la investigates the story of ''they mystery man in the woods'' at Abà Kòsas̩ègbé, rumored to be the notorious moneylender Laiyemo̩ of Agbajó̩ town. Tanímò̩la''s family is intimately tied to the story, as his grandfather, Náyà, was neighbor, childhood friend and rival of Laiyemo̩, and Laiyemo̩''s father, notorious pirate È̩rùjè̩jè̩, had swindled Náyà''s father of his home and land. Tanímò̩la''s investigation takes him to a rundown hut, where an invalid Laiyemo̩ lies, his past sins destroying him from the inside out. Laiyemo̩ tells Tanímò̩la that, though he was jealous of Náyà when they were younger, he remembers him as kind and wishes he had followed his advice to avoid pride. Laiyemo̩ reveals his vision of the three bundles - destiny, fate and karma - and tells Tanímò̩la to learn the rest of his story from his benefactor, T''e̩nibè̩gí. T''e̩nibè̩gí''s tale begins with young Laiyemo̩ as the prideful leader of his e̩gbé̩ (age group). He was the son of the richest man in town. Laiyémò̩''s father, È̩rùjè̩jè̩, gained his wealth from piracy and then took over the town as a moneylender. Greatly feared and hated by all, he was ostracized. He isolated himself on an island farm far from others. He was found dead after a mysterious visitation by seven bats and seven owls. Days after his funeral, his henchman and a crone were seen conducting a ritual over his grave. When Laiyémò̩ took over the moneylending business, he destroyed the town of Agbajó̩. Almost all in town were indebted to him; many sold themselves into slavery to him to save their families. The town faced famine and great poverty. During the town''s Centenary Anniversary celebrations, Laiyémò̩''s e̩gbé̩ led a ''show of shame'', where they fed currency into the cooking fire for the feast. The e̩gbé̩ danced and sang, ''We are fully satisfied. Who cares that some are hungry.''

  • von Peter Pastore
    26,00 €

Up and coming author, Peter Pastore is a craftsman of the short story, following in the monumental footsteps of Canadian greats such as Munro, Atwood, and Gardner. He develops his authentic characters in candidly realistic situations. The lengthier first piece is the universal journey of self-discovery, unveiling the protagonists for who they are and what they become. Love, the most elusive emotion is at the core and its value is enhanced or lost through their human interactions. Any coming of age tale cannot exclude sexual desire and how it plays upon the whole process. Deep within, it is one''s mental acuity or lack thereof which is the key to growth, with one''s social environment, family, and all the opposing others who add to the complexity of it. The backdrop is the unique, developing landscape of Toronto from the early 60''s through to the technological age of the present as one must ponders what brought happiness, sadness and tragedy into the lives of the people involved. Part II explores multifarious relationships. In the first tale, an intelligent, teenage girl has to come to terms with her female partner''s infidelity. "Imposing Fiction upon Reality" analyzes friendship. Can a man and a woman be solely Platonic in their interactions together or does physical attraction or jealousy play havoc upon it? "Julio and Miss Sorciere" deals with the well intentions of a high minded female teacher and her love for poetry. In her attempt to bring that beautifully profound art form to her impoverished, immigrant students does she lose sight of what is of greater importance in her life and those she wishes to enlighten? "Like Father Like Son" pursues the idea of hereditary and its influence in one''s becoming. "The Artist" touches upon loss and its sad effect upon an individual. Can art''s seeming cathartic power re-create the phoenix and its rise from the ashes? Does suffering need to occur for one to produce a visionary piece which touches upon the deepest, heartfelt elements of the soul? "Getting Fired" shows the heartlessness of the corporate world as downsizing for profit effects a young man who must deal with the sudden change in his life. It brings about a reassessing of what is of true value to him. "A Morning with Obisi Loasteame" puts a full figured individual at the center of the story. His struggles are of no less importance than those of any other. In its entirety this intricately constructed anthology threads together many interrelated themes as the author touches upon the imperfections of what truly makes one human. The characters'' struggles and discoveries are everyone''s as they attempt to understand what works in the need to get to the heart of the unending desire to find worth in one''s life.

  • von Judy Eicheldinger

No matter how long you''ve been a Christian, there are times in life that will kick dust into your faith lungs. Whether it''s a deeply painful event or just a slow fade into weariness, we long to know in tangible ways that God is near, that He is speaking to us and that though we are struggling to understand why nothing in our circumstance seems to indicate that we are being held in the palm of His hand, He breaks through with His unfailing love to assure us that He is there.  Judy Eicheldinger takes you on the journey of her traumatic health emergency, weaving together episodes of ordinary past events that brought Spirit-filled messages in unforeseen ways, awakening her heart to God''s presence.  But even those times would not compare to the magnitude of what was revealed to her during the crisis.  It begins with a confession of a much too busy calendar that has left her exhausted. She finds herself running circles as a mother and dance studio director while also experiencing a growing depression, grief and asthmatic faith. She ignores most of this, just as she ignores the rising on-again-off-again pain in her abdomen. When she finally collapses from the overwhelming, intense pain it becomes a health emergency and a race to find out what is wrong.  She creatively guides you through her story by prompting you to see God in your own. Themes of beauty, freedom from selfishness, forgiveness, miracles, overcoming fear, staying focused, deep healing, mystery, oneness with Christ, perseverance and eternal perspective will encourage you to embrace how your own unique circumstances are sacred and are positioned to bring transformational blessing to others.  And though one can never know the full measure of what God is doing or why He allows certain things to happen, this book will remind you that He does bestow the gift of His Spirit; to open our eyes, to heighten our hearing as He speaks through everything that surrounds us, so that we may know how infinitely, deeply He loves each of us. This is written with some light humor but always with a heart of compassion for women who have spent too many days in pain, who feel isolated in their griefs, or who just feel like there''s only a flicker of vitality left in their faith. These chapters pull back a curtain of despair and let hope pour through the window to the soul. Find renewed joy, a joy that will set your faith dancing again, and be inspired to rise up and share your own powerful story.

"I Came to Live Out Loud" is the answer Emile Zola gave to someone who asked him why he was here. Living out loud is the story of our journey. But the journey started with dreaming, fantasizing, scratching an itch, thinking, acting, doing something new and risking. Finding our passion. What better place to start looking than Paris?!

This world of poetry is very new to me. In fact, I don''t call what I do poetry, It''s just my stuff. Writing my stuff was absolute therapy for me. My journey began at the end of what was the perfect relationship, or so I thought. I discovered that time and people do change, I was of the impression that things could always be worked out. Nevertheless, I found myself in the grips of my self-imposed loneliness induced by factors beyond my control. Thus, in the beginning I wrote five letters trying to salvage what wasn''t salvageable. Then things just started moving into other directions as I began writing my stuff. I truly allowed God to move in me and take control of my life. This gave me the freedom to create my stuff and promote the power of words through the change that was happening in me. This was pivotal and most important as I began the journey from Desperation to Inspiration. That is to say, little did I know that the process of writing my stuff would be the beginning of my healing experience. I further discovered that all things in life are a process. The players may change or come and go but the continuation of episodes in 3D never ends. This collection of stuff is certainly my process, my hopes, my desperations and, my inspirations. I truly pray that you the reader will enjoy my stuff, and gain knowledge as your process continues, and you become you.

''Out of the Black Pot'' is a redemption story that follows a devotee of Ès̩ù (the devil) who murders his son and later seeks the forgiveness of his grandson and finally finds peace in Christianity. In ''The Christmas Present'', when young Zac writes a letter to God, he learns that the Almighty will always provide. In ''The Revelation'', a young commissionaire uses the power of prayer to combat the curses of evil. ''Miracle of the Blind Beggar'' tells the story of Toríiálà, an old blind beggar, who regains his sight in a miracle brought on through the chicanery of his son and a tough piece of frog meat. In ''Ké̩mí''s Harvest'', two boys from different backgrounds learn the meaning of the Yorùbá saying, ''As̩esile̩ làbò̩wábá - What one sets aside (or leaves behind) is what one returns to find.'' ''The Good Turn'' tells the story of a young boy who helps a travelling trader who is robbed by a gang and the kindness that is repaid years later. ''The Soulmates'' is the tale of how orphan S̩eun finds success and true love through his commitment to duty, kindness and hard work. In ''The Awry Murder'', a murder plot backfires when a jealous woman, long in love with the O̩ba, attempts to poison him and his new bride but instead poisons herself. ''The "Mystery Man" in the Cemetery'' questions the role of wealth and opulence in the afterlife and tells the story of a curse placed upon the descendants of a pirate who was killed many years before. In ''Glimpses into the Great Beyond'', a committee chosen to translate Yorùbá proverbs contemplates the phrase àdàbi jà ó ju èpè lo̩ (repaying good with evil is worse than a curse) and discusses the existence of God and the afterlife. ''The Presence'' is the author''s own journey alongside a silent presence that reveals to him the beauty of nature and the ways in which God speaks through it.

Freddy raced through the thickening forest of trees and high foliage, the slapping blades of plants and vegetation whisking against the fusion of denim, suede, and miniaturized, tuned, square metallic reflective panes fashioning his pants; the sound of jangling chimes accompanying him as the plant life rubbed across the blended materials. Most times it was a sound enjoyed, part of their appeal. He wasn''t so found of it now, would step out of them as quickly as he could if he could spare the moment, but they sounded close. Probably the clatter of his pants helping them track him, he''d spare the time. Pushing off from the tree he''d used to steady himself as he''d stepped out of them, he realized day had rotated to night without notice, his mind on nothing but escape since his error in judgment just under half an hour prior. He''d been running since and didn''t know how much longer he''d be able to go on. He was in great shape, due to his dancing and health regimen, but running for your life through a darkening woodland was a singular type of running.

This book explores decision-making and the creation of a culture of non-decision in complex organizations. Considered part of the decision-making process, this book addresses the role of power, structure and ethics of individual leaders and the impact on organizational culture. An authoritarian leader can suppress contributions while an indecisive leader can develop a culture of ambiguity in an organization. The book looks at the reality, and the consequences, of both extremes and considers the space in between. Both historical and current theories and ideas are described and discussed. Several leaders are interviewed contributing their lived experiences in the realm of decision-making and leadership. They describe experiences in organizations from their perspective as leaders between subordinates and more senior leaders within the organizational hierarchy. The book addresses ways key decision-makers use power, manage culture, and create structures to make decisions. The optimal structure for effective decision-making is explored. Finally, the author considers how a culture of non-decision occurs. In recent years, some organizations have attempted to reduce or eliminate the traditional hierarchical structure in favor of a flatter structure with fewer layers and more collaborative decision making. These efforts are compared to historical business structures.

This book presents in field guide style how to identify the spectrum of small vertebrate prey that your cat(s) bring into your home, the reasons for this behavior, and if captive prey is badly injured, how best to euthanize it and dispose of the remains. It also traces the relatively recent introduction of the European House Cat in the Western Hemisphere and why it is now our most successful predator on small vertebrate species. Prey identification is at the vertebrate family level and uses common terminology to do so. The author compares his experiences on zoological collecting trips to that of cat owners who are periodically presented with samples of the small wildlife species that inhabit their greater property area and how to determine the ecological status of the land their presence reflects.

As drivers you have the power of life or death; if you drive with recklessness abandonment, you will injury or kill someone else or yourself. If all Pedestrians, Motorcyclist, Bicyclist, and Drivers obeyed the law, accidents would be greatly reduced. I have driven over 3 million miles in the western part of the United States, I have been involved in 4 car accidents, of which two were my fault, they happened when I was young and thought I had all the answers in another words I was stupid. I not only drive defensively; I am able to predict events before they happen. I watch trends and I am able to predict events in front, behind, and both sides of my car.I haven''t driven much in snow yet my tips and perception of the four main categories will work everywhere; in snow all drivers need to slow down and be even more careful. When you can recognize what stupid people are going to do, you might be able to avoid having an accident.
