During an apartment building fire the mother of 3 1/2 year old triplets (Two girls and a boy) perished while trying to save others. Since their father was killed in the line of duty, the children were turned over to a Catholic orphanage and each was adopted separately. It was imperative to find the one triplet that was missing from the equation. That adoption was closed so it was difficult to circumvent the secret.

The agony of empty nests is alleviated with the help of a school nurse and a lawyer who partner to customize adoptions. They try to match up young people over the age of 18 to specifications of the desired couple...usually by coloring or ethnicity....or both. The solicited couple get financial remuneration and in some cases, a scholarship for college. It went along well until a legal problem reared its ugly head...putting both the lawyer and nurse into the arms of the law.

Kathy Stevens Bradley has enjoyed writing acrostic poetry for almost 20 years. This type of expressive writing was especially helpful when she had an unexpected stroke at age 60. Before her retirement from classroom teaching in 2013, she spent a wonderful 31 years as an elementary school arts teacher and writer. As a drama and music teacher, she taught kindergarten-5th grade. During these years, she had the opportunity to write and produce numerous plays and video productions for public schools in Columbia, SC. She is the author of 18 original plays for children, and wrote and co-produced the 6-part social studies series DETECTIVE BONZ & THE SC HISTORY MYSTERY (presently viewed on SCETV's educational website knowitall.org). Some of her favorite pastimes are playing guitar, writing country songs, and spending time with her grandchildren and family. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the most common method of suicide was taking poison-usually arsenic. On the farm, strychnine, cyanide, and arsenic were used to get rid of gophers, rabbits, and other vermin. Mental illness, especially depression, was regarded as the most important factor for suicide. In the 19th century about half the coroners' verdicts on suicide concluded that the victims were "insane." Suicidal attempts were often triggered by life crises-the death of a close relative or, more often, a breakdown in a romantic relationship. When there were few available painkillers, escape from physical illness was a common reason for suicide. Arsenic was often used for murder, as it was readily available, cheap, and pretty much tasteless when dissolved. Who would ever thought being incarnated would bring an cold heart and a tender soul? Well some of the darkest moments in my life was behind bars. At the age of 19, now 33, I have struggled. First of all, three of my reflective poems as you notice when you read them do not have times and dates recorded in the header. I went back and read them and I blessedly remembered why each of them didn't have these personal requirements of my own style. Poems 4,7,10 are the standouts. They were just created to be looked at now and then and to be written in personal greeting cards (eg. Poem 7, greeting card) The first poem, His Business, His Word entails what I have learned about myself through learning who Jesus is and that What His Business is about; the righteousness of his Word and the obedience thereof. Assuredly; He is God in the flesh, and the Holy Ghost in the spirit. His Business brings about His Word called, the Bible, which in my small way I help through my poetry.
