A smell, a taste, an observation, an occasion, a conversation, a photograph -these are what compel the creation of a sonnet. In this collection, some sonnets are based on the evolution and culmination of relationships, conveying depths of expression and emotion. Some are simple and straightforward, while others are open to a secondary interpretation or a hidden picture. For still others, the transfer of an idea to the concrete can traverse a continuum from reality to fantasy. Above all, these sonnets will spur your imagination and recollection-and isn't that what poetry is all about?

  • - A Retold Story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff
    von Kay Jennings
    22,00 €

During the time of the covid we stayed home more. I got to reading old stories. I began to imagine another ending to the stories. Finally, I began writing the ideas down. Once I started, I enjoyed what I was doing. Just imagine being a troll in charge of the only bridge to the pasture on the other side of the stream. You have a cozy home next to the stream under the bridge. The animals have always done as they pleased. Mr. Troll has cleaned the area and mended the bridge. Now he is charging them to cross. The goats are a mess. They could care less. The last time the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff was told, the goats were in charge. Now, Mr. Troll has taken over. He plans to make it better. In the next retold short story, Goldilocks was stuck inside without her companions. She was very adventurous young lady. Finally, she was going on a walk. As she looked about her a new adventure begins to unravel.

The forest can be a source of vibrant life, the locale of lurking danger, a safe sheltering refuge or a path to adventure, and for Momma Kitty and her spirited family, their forest home becomes a land of mystery and miracles, where every new day brings a new experience, presents a new challenge, or lets a new lesson unfold. Just as beyond the forest, every parent lives the joy and pain their children go through, dreams the vision they would bestow upon them, and each yearns to impart the lessons given them as they make their way through the wildland of their own life. And whether you read this book with your child, or your child reads it alone, in the journey with Momma Kitty, her kits and their friends, with The Wise One guiding them all along the way, together you''ll share their life''s joy and pain, join in their dreams, and very likely you''ll see that there''s wondrous lessons yet to learn, waiting to be bestowed to one and all, young or old, that can offer a lifetime of benefit, if applied. And that''s the cat''s truth!Author Patty Shaw describes writing Momma Kitty''s Miraculous Meows:"I witnessed every facet of human pain, conflict, and emotion as a court reporter for over thirty years. After each stressful day of experiencing this, I would come home to my loving cats and soon after, began studying A Course In Miracles, which became my spiritual guidebook. As the personality of each of my cats unfolded before me, so did each principle of the Course I studied, and as both joined in my mind, I began envisioning the story of Momma Kitty, living with her family in their mystical forest home, the guiding voice of The Wise One emerging more clearly as each new adventure unfolded. As I lived Momma Kitty''s journey with her, the guidance of The Course deepened in my own life and The Wise One also spoke to me, giving me the lessons so precious to Momma Kitty. It''s my sincere wish you find them precious, too."She added, "I believe you''ll find as rich vein of enjoyable insight reading Momma Kitty''s Miraculous Meows as I did writing it. And one thing''s for sure, there''s more wisdom adventures ahead for this forest family, as Firefly, his sisters Annie and Molly, elder statesman Fergis, and their new friend Pablo, all join The Wise One as they explore life, living and learning with each new day. We hope you''ll join us..."

  • - A Riverview Animal Shelter Mystery Novel
    von Helen A Bemis
    18,00 €

What is chutzpah? Dictionary.com gives as synonyms "nerve" and "audacity." The word is Yiddish, and its roots go back to Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus Christ. The dog in the book''s title, Lady, has chutzpah. She is a canine force of nature. When her first owner, "the old man," dies, pregnant Lady, then temporarily at the Riverview Animal Shelter, becomes the pet of criminologist Alice, a woman with a full supply of audacity herself. Her husband, Art, is the RAS veterinarian. Before leaving RAS, Lady gives birth to two pups, and Alice and Art and daughter Katie adopt both Lady and one puppy, Princess. Soon Alice would have a crime puzzle: from RAS, someone steals Lady''s brother. Who would dognap a pup? And why?Ben''s adopted elder brother, Harold, lost his pinochle partner, Helene, to the warmer weather of the South, but soon found another partner, Bonnie. They usually played five-handed pinochle, a cut-throat winner-takes-all type of game. No gambling was involved, but they fought hard to win, sometimes breaking the rules.Breaking the rules was a bit of a habit for Bonnie. She came under suspicion in the disappearance from RAS, during an overnight storm, of the dog eventually named "Duke," Lady''s male puppy.RAS dog trainers Skippy and Olivia prepared an Obedience Demonstration Match for Riverview, exciting the town and making Sandy jealous of the relationship developing between her two employees, revealing to her how much she had fallen for Skippy. But how did he feel about her?The Match held some surprises, including an unexpected reunion. A virus from abroad had reached New York City and, soon after, it invaded Riverview, jeopardizing lives and changing plans. "Man proposes. God disposes." Helen Bemis has written over a dozen novels about her fictional Riverview community, incorporating her knowledge of people, dogs, and business to shape stories that have cozy mysteries and valuable insights.

Priesthood is open to men only. It''s been that way for centuries in the Catholic church and is often referred to as a vocation...a special calling by God himself. But men are not perfect. Like the first apostles, they are flawed human beings, and can succumb to temptation. They can seek forgiveness, be sincere in their determination to sin no more, and receive absolution...like all of us humans. But then a secondary temptation may emerge: the cover up.Meet the friends who went through the seminary together and have known each other for twenty years. They are musically talented and meet each month for the sheer enjoyment of making music. They play on occasion for charity functions to the delight of parishioners. None were for pay until now. This venue is much different. They are asked to do a favor for a friend and fill in for a band of musicians who unexpectedly canceled their slot in a Manhattan nightclub. It leads to three consecutive Fridays, their clerical status a secret. The lead singer, Father David Bell, is captivated by a female fan, Susie, and after the third Friday performance, the two rendezvous for a cocktail and end up in bed. On the 2AM drive back from Brooklyn to Dave''s parked car in Manhattan, Susie hits a pedestrian. The street is deserted, and David and Susie rationalize the decision to flee the scene. David and Susie both have reasons for concealing their involvement and agree that they can call for help once they return to Manhattan. David alerts 9-1-1 but he doesn''t provide his name. He justifies this decision as protecting the church from embarrassment should the truth get out.Law enforcement tracks Father David Bell via his cell phone. After face-to-face interrogation, Dave admits that he was near the scene of the accident that morning, with a woman. He confesses to breaking his vow of celibacy but says that the screech of tires came from behind. The driver of that vehicle stopped so Dave and his companion kept going, under the assumption that an animal ran into the driver''s path. He claimed that he had second thoughts when they got back to Manhattan and dialed 9-1-1. The detectives are not convinced, and mention that they can examine cameras located around the tunnel into Manhattan.Days later, Dave faces extortion attempts. First, Susie pays a reputed Russian mobster to have her car disappear and fabricates a report of theft. She learns that David Bell is a priest and asks him to share the expense. The Russian mobster does his own investigation and realizes that blackmail of a Catholic priest would be simple and low risk. Finally, the homeless man''s cousin overhears Dave at the hospital asking the sedated patient for forgiveness and puts two and two together.Father Bell continues to think he can lie his way out of this mess, even as his plan is unraveling. His brother''s unexpected death is the wake-up call. David shares the truth with his bishop, his family, and his friends, along with a plan to make amends. In so doing, he unwittingly makes them a party to the cover up.And then there''s Clare, his brother''s wife. He has loved her since the day of his ordination, a twenty-year friendship. A temptation not to be acted upon...again.

  • - ... an unholy trinity
    von Robert a Hilliard
    22,00 €

"Life''s Elusive Horizon ... an unholy trinity" is the conclusion to author Rob HIlliard''s "Cutter/Wellington trilogy," a saga of two competing families in the world of thoroughbred racing that takes place in the 1980s. TJ Cutter III is a legacy alumnus of the University of Virginia who aspired to a career in the diplomatic corps, but took over his family''s Leesburg, VA, horse farm upon the untimely death of his father. Beauregard Wellington is the first of his family to not participate in politics, his grandfather having been a long-time U.S. Senator while his daddy spent two terms as Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Taking over his family''s horse farm after serving an internship with a major breeding business in Florida, Beau wrote his own success story running the Lexington spread, which lay in the heart of thoroughbred country. The unfolding drama involves interactions between these two equine-industry elites and gradually envelops other members of their families as well as a growing number of business associates and acquaintances. Mayhem, ranging from financial scheming, business power plays and illicit sexual encounters to brushes with the underworld, acts of terrorism and murder, compel readers to tackle the author''s tale as quickly as Secretariat captured the Belmont Stakes on his way to the Triple Crown.

Few have been the individuals from northern New Mexico''s 400-year-old Spanish-speaking villages who have taken the time to write down the significant events of their lives. Ascensión J. Martínez of Chimayó, is however a notable exception. Born in 1926 in the village of Chimayó, his life has spanned a period of momentous developments locally, nationally and in the world at large. Within the pages of this book, Walk with Me to Chimayó, a Memoir by Ascensión J. Martínez of Chimayó, the author describes the Chimayó of his youth when the rest of the country had yet made few inroads into one of this nation''s oldest and most isolated agrarian societies. By "walking" the reader through his earliest memories of contributing to his family''s demanding life of self-sufficiency and later, his first tenuous steps into mainstream American society, Ascensión enables the reader to experience the subtle yet at times dramatically-changing cultural landscape of that period. One of the book''s highlights is his account of the final days of World War II in the Philippine theater of war where he participated as a soldier and barely escaped with his life intact. The fact that he visited Hiroshima, Japan, soon after it was leveled to the ground by the atom bomb, has enabled him to write a poignant description of what he saw.

  • - Day of the Lord Diaries - Book One
    von David Alan Smith
    22,00 €

It was a Freewill Rapture (the keeper)..."Dear Diary..., the Rapture finally came and went..., a couple of days ago. It didn''t go down the way I thought it would..., or the way I was told it would- not even close, and it makes me mad. I had to choose whether or not to go..., I just wasn''t ready for that. I was like a deer in the headlights. I choked...! I blew it...! You know I blew it, otherwise I wouldn''t be here writing this down. I don''t know how many of us blew our chance to go, but I know I can''t be the only one, no way! I''m scared. I''m really scared; scared to go outside. It''s really ugly out there, weird stuff goin'' on. And the fact that there''s no electricity..., or phones to really find out what''s going on isn''t helping. More later." Day of the Lord Diaries...; the chronological series of events in the eyes of those who witnessed the last days. Starting with the ''falling away'', the fragmented days before the Rapture, and the Rapture itself. See the pages of the Bible come to life by those who were there. Now, in the midst of global devastation and unimaginable horror, the world is stumped as to who to curse and to whom do they pray. They know not, for it is hard to tell what is good and what is evil. The ''diaries'' tell all; and those concerned can be thankful for it. Because in the end; though the days are filled with the purest of malevolence-the beauty of faith, salvation, the love of the truth, and even teen romance will once again prove against all odds they will thrive even in the darkest of times. To Him be the Glory as we await His ''second coming''. Still..., come quickly.

Letters from China . . . beginning in 1922, these letters were written by Martha; a young woman who had been raised riding horses and working cattle on a family ranch in San Diego County. A newlywed married to a Methodist pastor, this is her story of becoming a missionary and her wonderment at serving her church in the historic civilization called China. Through her writings you''ll discover how this young, impressionable missionary''s fascination grew as she learned the language, customs and traditions of this ancient land. Letters to her mother and family tell of the challenges she and her husband faced traveling the district to teach the word of God and guiding Chinese pastors in their work. She describes the struggles of raising two girls in a world far from her home and family in San Diego. Her letters continue as the peril of the Japanese invasion of China in the early days of World War II threatened the survival of the missionaries. This is a story of her unwavering commitment to her faith.

  • - Random Encounters - Unexpected Joy
    von Paul E Kotz
    22,00 €

This book contains stories of inspiration, making mistakes, finding happiness as well as bringing to light anecdotes of deliberate and unexpected kindness. Many times these random encounters have untapped joy for me. It is about everyday life, vulnerability, and our reactions. Ravi Zacharias stated, "None of us escapes life without some ecstasy and heartache." When you see a baby jumping for joy, splashing water during a bath, or smiling from a hug you just gave them, we rarely question their excitement and enjoy the moment of their ebullient happiness. As adults, I find that we often feel guilty, (or are made to feel guilty) if we express our own joy. God has given each of us so many gifts, so that we can choose to build each other up, to keep these gifts latent, or to bring people to their knees with unkind words. I hope your day is a happy one. Bren├⌐ Brown reminds us, "Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change." This book is also about what I observe, react to, and reflect on-often in complete awe. I also hope this helps you to see that there is much good in the world. We just have to look around us, and we have the power to make positive, impactful changes in our immediate surroundings and in bigger circles, too. What actions do you take when no one is looking?Alison McGhee said, "Every moment of every day you can bring people down or you can lift them up-you, one small person-by the energy you project. We choose what we want our lives to mean, and what we want to leave behind. We have the power to write our own stories. Remember that." It is in this spirit that these stories of inspiration are shared.I feel a bit overwhelmed by people who express that I am "positive." Someone asked me "What are you on?"I just realize that I have so much time left, people are generally good, some will not like you no matter what you do, and life is just one big sitcom, so laugh a little or laugh a lot. Also, I have faced my own mortality a few times, and I am continuing to see that many times you and I are, metaphorically speaking, given a bundle of Christmas lights to untangle. You unravel the lights, plug them into some good power source, and voila, you have some magic before your eyes. Or, you have a new source of power that you just plugged into, and the lights suddenly short out. Now, you have to find a new way to see the lights again.I also have witnessed enough horrible and miraculous life experiences that made me strongly consider focusing more on the miraculous.

  • - A Son-Father Story
    von Nory Fussell
    28,00 €

This is a father and son story that weaves through an era of tumultuous social change toward a lifetime of healing. From a bicultural family life in the socialist setting of the Panama Canal Zone to a death by voluntarily stopping eating and drinking (VSED), at times these pages read with the whimsy of childhood memory and at times with the weighty and impassioned words of facing our mortality. Moving through vignettes of a boy at play in tropical jungles, a family's various migrations, or a dying father's gusto and gratitude for life, you'll hitchhike, you'll sing, you'll play baseball, and you'll grieve. Perhaps you'll ask the ancient questions to the Great Mystery that is life and death, pondering, "Where do we go from here?"

  • - Sowing Kingdom Seeds in Your Life That Will Manifest Productive Fruit
    von Dr Robert Cathers
    23,00 €

Then Jesus said to them, "Don''t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable." (Mark 4:13) Jesus gives us the key to understanding how the kingdom works through the parable of the Sower in Mark, Chapter 4. He said, "Understand this parable and you will understand all parables". Throughout this parable, the seed is the one constant, as it is the ground that changes. Jesus did not say that some of us have good ground and some of us have bad ground. He teaches us that we can transform our ground. Understanding this parable is the first step, however the key is learning how to traverse the different grounds in order to reach the good ground. Seed Prayer, prayer that combines speaking scripture (sowing seeds) and praying in the Holy Spirit (watering the seeds sown), applies the power of this parable to transform the ground we are sowing into, so that our seed can bear fruit. Seed prayer was developed over a period of years at our church in Northridge. Several members of our congregation gathered with me every morning and we all prayed for several hours together. This Seed Prayer revelation came out of those times of prayer. Understanding the revelation of the parable of the sower and applying its power, which is Seed Prayer, is the key to receiving other revelations of God and manifesting them in your lives. I urge you follow this principle of prayer daily, and as you do, your ground will be cultivated over time and transformed into good ground where your seed sown will produce fruit. I promise it will change your lives for the better, as it changed ours.

The Great Work is to end slavery. This should be a shared responsibility to help in awakening others, speaking the truth unapologetically, even when we feel burdened and/or uncomfortable. So "Ask, Seek, and Knock." Study to show yourself approved and do not leave your salvation up to any man. The Creator does work through men, but the relationship should be a vertical one; The Creator, the Sacred Feminine (The Holy Spirit), and you. Until the conversation changes from, race, religion, education/indoctrination, media/entertainment, politics, and government, we will not be freed of the deception in our minds and of our times. If someone were to ask me what is the one thing I got from my awakening, it would be that it is all about The Creator and His nature, His creation. The Creator put Spiritual Laws into effect long ago, laws disrupted by deception of mass destruction. These Spiritual Laws still exist and will exist forever. Come as a Son (male or female).
