Lonesome George, the last Pinta Island tortoise on earth, hates a lot of things; people, goats, even his own existence. After a long, hard breakup from an "overdue" relationship, I found myself lost. I "gave up" on dating, relationships, love and ever being with anyone ever again. Then, out of nowhere; I met someone, and it was then that I sat at my computer and poured out ALL my feelings into this book.

Rōmon is a traditional two-storied gate found in a place of worship in Japan. "Rō"means "multi-storied", and "mon" means "gate" in Japanese. A typical rōmon in Japan is constructed with wood; massive and decorative; and has a large hip-and-gable roof and a wraparound small balcony with railings. Rōmons that are noted for their artistic beauty and historical significance tend to belong to Shinto shrines. Yet no one can answer such simple question as how many rōmons exist in Shinto shrines in Japan. This very first book about Shinto rōmons has two parts. Part 1 is about reporting results of my search for existing Shinto rōmons across Japan. First, I explain the unique and systematic techniques I used to search for existing rōmons. Then I report findings from my search. Results are organized by various topics, such as time of construction, geographic location, relative spatial position, notable exterior characteristics, zuijin statues, and preservation of rōmons. Findings are primarily aggregated at the group level, but notable examples of individual cases (specific rōmons) are also provided. In short, Part 1 is designed to answer such basic questions as "What is rōmon?" "What do they look like?" and "Where are they located?" Part 2 is about lost Shinto rōmons. The existing rōmons are only a small part of the rōmons that have ever been built, and on average in every several years a rōmon is lost due to fire, earthquake, old age, among other reasons. Part 2 consists of a collection of fascinating stories and trivia of lost Shinto rōmons. These stories and trivia relate to specific shrines, famous persons, or historic events, and are organized chronologically. Examples of topics include "Iwashimizu Hachimangū - Eight Generations of Rōmons", "Kashiwahgi Jinja - Musical Chairs of Rōmons", "The Toyotomi Clan vs. the Tokugawa Clan - Who is the Rōmon Shogun?", "End of the Syncretism - Did Shinto Shrines Lose Rōmons?" and "A Forgotten Lost Shinto Rōmon Overseas." This book also contains 12 tables, 8 figures, a glossary of Shinto gates, and bibliography. Finally, the appendix lists all 225 existing rōmons, their locations, structural designs, and historic preservation designations.

A Minorcan Family Heritage highlights a beautiful culture that appeared in 1768 and continues to this day primarily in St. Augustine, Florida. These exceptional immigrants left their homes on the Isle of Menorca and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean. They had signed contracts to become indentured servants of Dr. Andrew Turnbull. After serving from seven to nine years at his indigo plantation in New Smyrna, Florida, they would be free and given a tract of land. Over 1400 Minorcans began the trip from Menorca. When they fled from the plantation in 1777, they had to walk 70 miles on King's Highway, to a bustling St. Augustine. They arrived when the American Revolution was being fought. The British flag flew in St. Augustine from 1763 to 1783 and during the war over 15,000 Loyalists escaped from the Colonies seeking refuge and passage out. The Minorcans were present for this mass exodus as well as the Indian Wars, the War of 1812, the Civil War and both World Wars. A Minorcan Family Heritage tells the exciting story of Antonio and Catalina Usina and one line of descendants in the Usina family.

During the post-emancipation through to the 21st century, the descendants of slaves had established on the small Grenadine island of Carriacou, the village of Goat Hill on marginal lands. The uniqueness of a village transitioning over time but anchored in the beliefs, myths, culture and the socio-economic experiences that laid the foundation of life in Goat Hill, Their basic philosophy, which is one of community, was exhibited then and now, and is often expressed in the phrase "one for all and all for one" or sometimes in a patios: "Caca Bawee for Caca Bawee." Unable to escape the effect of globalisation, the village has been able to withstand the changes, both bad and good. The village is, now a modern community, no longer experiencing material poverty but is challenged to avoid a corruption of its basic philosophy as money and politicians play on their souls and diluting those characteristics that made Goat Hill the envy of so many.Set in Carriacou, the novel captures the essence of island living from post-emancipation through to the 21st century. The characters, rituals and events recounted place the socio-cultural heritage centre stage, taking the reader back in time and bringing the discourse to life. At the same time, skilfully woven into the tapestry are the changes that propel economic advancement and the attendant challenges that threaten to erode what is sacred. "Spiritually Appraising" is God's commandment for the way Christians are to assess and to judge all things - I Corinthians 2:15. Well in order to spiritually appraise all things, you must first know God's word (rhema - 4487 GK.), meaning His scriptures. This is why we are also commanded to live by His every word - Matthew 4:4, because only His word, scriptures, are the truth. And no, we don't use our human mind to spiritually appraise, we have to use the mind of Christ - I Corinthians 2:16b, which is why we are commanded not to think like the world, but to have our minds renewed - Romans 12:2. Yes a renewed mind gives you the mind of Christ. Well this is why God has given us close to 8,000 scriptures in the New Testament. Think of it like a puzzle. If there was a 500 piece puzzle and all you had was 2 or 3 pieces, do you honestly know what the whole puzzle looks like? No you don't! You need His knowledge (epignosis), meaning His full and complete truth, in order to rightfully spiritually appraise ALL things. Well God has done His job by giving us His knowledge in abundance, so that we can now spiritually appraise all things according to His word. It's now time for us to do our job as Christians, AKA His children, to honor and obey Him by spiritually appraising all things.
