    von Charles David McCally

Charles David McCally writes out of his experience as an award winning, television producer/writer, having won a coveted award from the International Film and Television Festival of New York, Religion in Media's "Angel Award," and others. He wrote "Musing in the Footsteps of Jesus," a sensitive rendition of Christ's early ministry, "Reflection of a Storyteller," a pilgrimage of parables, and now, "The Sunny Side of U.S. Highway Escapade." Its messages, instructional to young and old, present guideposts to follow when living by the principles of Jesus Christ. Some stories feature warnings of dangerous pitfalls and suggest guard rails to protect followers of God's straight and narrow way. The stories relate to 14 topics that most all humans experience and there is much to be gleaned for the true seeker of God's will. God's main feelings about each of these topics can be seen and verified by His Holy Scriptures. For instance, of the topics, BABIES, and CHILDREN- (God considers them to be heavenly creatures.) Dangerous animals, dangerous people....One National Park Ranger's story! 'Bears, bison, and unpredictable people highlight the memorable career of Terry Spangler's service as a National Park ranger. Being part of the team that put the first radio collar on a grizzly bear in Glacier National Park - and dodging bison inside Wind Cave NP are but two of the exciting events that he has experienced. As I was running, I couldn't help but have an amused thought. My tombstone would say: 'trampled to death by buffalo', just like for an old westerner caught in a stampede! This is a behind the scenes look at the life of a National Park Ranger, told from the perspective of one who has served in 15 different parks and trained in 10 others over parts of 5 decades.

Seeking God's RighteousnessAre there times when a familiar passage in the Bible springs out and for the first time, you ask God, "now what does that mean"? You have read it or prayed it for a long time, but suddenly you question it. Jesus stated we were to first seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. The little word "and" indicates there is more and also something different between the two. Much study is devoted to understanding the Kingdom of God. How is His Righteousness different that the Kingdom of God? When we Christians accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and believe he died for us, we accept the righteousness of Jesus for our sins. It is the great exchange. What is Jesus directing his disciples to do then? This book begins by describing what the Kingdom of God is and summarizes the need for it within our fallen world. The triune nature of humanity, spirit, soul and flesh bodies are defined. When Adam and Eve rebelled, there was a separation of the spirit body from access to the other two bodies. When we seek the Kingdom of God, we follow a God ordained path to reunite the spirit as it is reborn within the individual. A child is born into a broken world. Choices and events within their lives form an ego that does not have the advantage of a reborn spirit connected to the other two bodies. Practical examples for how this happens and how it is overcome by the grace of God are described. God intervenes in individual lives. His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ is available. As one accepts Jesus as Lord, and the Holy Spirit activates the individual spirit within the person, a new birth occurs. Now the person can seek the Kingdom of God. These ideas are explained with scriptures to support them. A process of sanctification is ignited within the spirit of the person. Paul describes this process of sanctification in many of his letters. Paul also states that many believers are stuck at the milk level of understanding and have not moved into the level of discerning righteousness or seeking the meat of the Gospel. The rest of the book illustrates with scripture and examples how one moves to the meat level understanding. This is seeking the righteousness of God.

The SPARQE tales are stories in which otherwise disabled kids, as members of SPARQE, use their disabilities to become Special Purpose People (SPPs), superhero like characters with a wide variety of gadgets, vehicles and apparatus that they use to accomplish superhero deeds, while avoiding capture by agents of the darkly evil Empty Vessel (EV). EV, who once lost an important promotion to a disabled kid, is a self-acknowledged and self-made sinister scientist. Using the scientific and energy resources of Technoprise, EV has constructed a Bio-Farm where he develops genetic modification technology aimed at eliminating the disabled, creating a "clean gene" society. Through its spokesperson, Mr. Clean Genes, Technoprise markets to the world thusly, ... "Are you tired of feeling different or outside the mainstream? Wouldn't you like to feel just like an ordinary Harry or Sophie with good health, good vision, good abs, and a great attitude? With "gene clean" products and treatments you wake up every morning confident that you can figure out any problem be it work, relationships or whatever needs fixing in your life or the lives of those you love." EV knows he must find the SPARQE lab and eliminate all the SPPs as he needs to have unimpeded access to the disabled for experiments at his Bio-Farms, and to otherwise rid the world or make invisible the disabled in the ordinary everyday world. So SPARQE fights a two front war. In everyday life the SPPs are out there showing how they make important contributions to the lives of other people. Simultaneously, they are trying to learn of EV's plot, the secrets behind EV's science, and the location of the Bio Farm so they can destroy it, topple EV and restore his kindly predecessor Mr. Otterbach as head of Technoprise. The time is 2029, EV has already taken over Technoprise, the SPPs are out in the world under SPARQE's umbrella and the conflict is engaged.

Lee Raymond Blanchette had ambitions to be the first above-the-knee amputee to kayak the Mississippi River from its headwaters in Minnesota to its destination in New Orleans. Other things on his Bucket List were to swim with the dolphin, Winter, who has a prosthetic tail, and to work in the Antarctic in honor of Shackleton, Perry and North. Lee was a talented carpenter and artist, and loved to be outdoors in the winter, shoveling snow for friends and neighbors. He was a volunteer Emergency Medical Service responder (EMS), and took the job very seriously, going out every night to help people, especially those who had over-dosed on drugs. He struggled with residual limb pain and stump deterioration because he would work so hard several days running, and then have to rest up another three. He self-medicated with alcohol to dull the pain, but eventually put himself into a sober house and started a regimen of pain medications. Lee made friends wherever he went. Even store clerks and his doctors became fast friends with him. Lee's primary doctor would always set aside about an hour, just to shoot the bull with Lee after treatment. A saying Lee had was: "I may not be able to change the world, but I sure am gonna leave one heck of a dent in it!"

  • - An American Business in Post-embargo Vietnam
    von Richard McCombs
    50,00 €

Richard McCombs oversaw one of the first American companies to return to Vietnam after the embargo was lifted. Keep Smiling is about his experiences living and working there while negotiating and operating a joint venture with the government of Vietnam.Richard went to Vietnam because he was the only person at American Rice (ARI) who volunteered to go. ARI was the largest rice company in the United States. ARI had been invited to form a joint venture (JV) with the largest state-owned rice company in The Socialist Republic of Vietnam. In Vietnam, rice was the most valuable and politically sensitive commodity. ARI's goal was to process rice using ARI's technology and marketing strength and export Vietnamese rice to ARI's global customers. Vietnam's goal was to improve their rice production and expand their exports. Neither entity was clear about how the values and practices of socialism would mix with the business practices of capitalism, but therein lies the story.Vietnam's communist government had almost no experience dealing with capitalism and foreign investors. There was a lot of speculation about how Americans would be received, given Vietnam's recent history. This book explains how this project was perilous, both personally and professionally, and offers an insight into the struggles Richard had living and working there as well as the struggles Vietnam had with opening the country for business with outsiders. As Ambassador Pete Peterson (first U.S. Ambassador after President Clinton lifted the embargo) stated in the Foreword to Keep Smiling "Keep Smiling is a thoughtful and informative compilation of an American businessman's personal and professional experiences in the early days of Vietnam's open-door economic policy."Readers will especially appreciate how the author cleverly weaved into the story a delightful illustration of Vietnamese culture, cuisine, and infrastructure as it was in the early 1990s. Once you pick up Keep Smiling you will not put it down until you reach its final page. "Richard's background was CEO of the second largest winery in California and CEO of MBA Polymers, the leading plastics recycling company with factories in China, Austria, and the UK. He graduated from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and Amherst College. He was a Conscientious Objector during the Vietnam war.

Happyland is the story of a young man coming of age in 60's America. From Catholic school right on through the millennium, this is a collection of neighborhood stories about growing up in the city that will amuse and enthrall you. When compiling all the memories, challenges, and laughter from my youth, out of nowhere came the idea to actually document them and write THIS BOOK. I hope you will enjoy the actual stories herein, and have to catch your breath from laughter. It was a CRAZY time in the country, and even crazier where I was raised. It was a time when all Americans struggled through the Civil rights movement, the Vietnam WAR, and the challenges that were born out of the times. It is an amusing and disturbing tale, born on the back of napkins, paper plates, pizza boxes, and wherever else I could scrawl down the flood of life's memories that came my way. The language is RAW, like the stories, and keep the feeling throughout the book REAL. Nuns, hippies, bums, boss, hip, cool, the fuzz, the music, the ice cream man, the junkies, drunks, hookers, whores, fire hydrants on that killer hot summer day, and the inevitable street fights that were born as the result of the social upheaval that was the day. The names have been changed to protect the guilty, and the innocent. Though the 60's were an immensely difficult time for everyone, they bore fond memories of the way we lived our young lives. If you're looking for a laugh, you just FOUND IT!! AWAY we go! Now entering HAPPYLAND.....

  • - A Memoir
    von Harry Anderson
    70,00 €

A HYBRID MEMOIR: THE MERGING OF WORD AND FABRIC Imagine a story quilt, consisting of twenty-five 12"x12" blocks, each symbolically depicting a seminal happening in your life. The format of Block Time simulates the fashioning of such a quilt. Whereas the narration satisfies the requisite five W's of reportage (who, what, why, when, where), the fabric's figurative designs go beyond the word. Their components - e.g., color and configuration - limn what is ineffable. Stitch together the twenty-five episodes and the twenty-five blocks and you will see the essence of a life. The accounts of hauling up drinking water in a pail from a well, of a red alert just shy of the DMZ, of narrowly losing one's virginity, of a perilous journey through America's most dangerous ghetto do interrelate. A quilt is made, the stories are told, and you have a delineation of a life.

  • - A War World II Memoir
von Harry L Runyan & John V Quarstein
    23,00 €

Harry L. Runyan served the United States as an engineering officer during World War II. Supported by award-winning historian and author John V. Quarstein, Runyan has shared his unique viewpoint of this world-changing event in Harry's War: A World War II Memoir.Perfect for anyone interested in history, Harry's War describes the 30th PRS history, from formation, through training and action, to final demobilization, as well as its "everyman" soldiers, like Runyan himself, who gave up safety, security, and loved ones to fight for what they believed in.As much a tale told in words, it is one told in compelling photographs taken by a young Runyan. Aerial closeups of destroyed cities, pre-D-Day dicing pictures showing the German defenses, high-altitude photos of the D-Day invasion, and personal snapshots of the men and the planes that carried out the war, both in action and going about their daily routines, offer glimpses into a world few have seen. - Professional historians, especially those interested in WW II and modern European history- Other individuals interested in military and aviation history, including descendants of those who served in the Army and USAAF. There are dozens of pictures of the men who served in the 30th, with the individuals identified. Also included are many photos of Nose Art of the 30th. - Current service members who are today active in this same field- Military & aviation museums, libraries- Most any pilot who has ever taken a photo from his airplane- and there are many aviation/pilot societies (most pilots are very excitable about anything to do with flying) - Those interested in the history, uses of, and growth of photographic technology - to this end I have a 10-page explanation of Photo Reconnaissance written by the men in the 30th during the war complete with actual photos and descriptions of how & why they took certain photos of specific targets - written in a nontechnical way complete with cartoon drawings aiding the text- Anyone interested in the personal stories of men at war or who wants to see how war affects the participants, even those who are seldom in the line of fire. some Many of the stories remain poignant and humorous. - Anyone who values history and understands that we must work to protect, and increase our knowledge of what took place years ago, and to learn from those experiences.

We want the world to be and feel like ourselves. We believe in those things that are like us and reject everything else. But there are a lot of groups of "us" who believe in other things. So, the world is not like you WANT it to be. It is not even like you THINK it is. We have to grasp what the real world is like, if we are collectively going to survive on earth by solving problems of overpopulation, such as: Poverty, Pandemics, Climate Change.
