  • - The New Americanism
    von Dr Frank Ferrin
    43,00 €

DEMOLITION POLITICS has consistently permeated political effort in America over many decades. Loss of any moral compass, and disregard for civility and human dignity, has created an elitist class of politicians with an unquenchable thirst for power that will allow them control over the people of America.A total disregard for the National Good, yields to a rampant desire to drastically change the fiber of our society and repeatedly burdens our democracy with untenable challenges to our liberties, our economy, our health system, our judicial system and our American Dream.Misguided and deceitful legislators, seek to demoralize all major institutions, and in general achieve degradation of our history. They pretend to promote "evolution" while endorsing criminality and malfeasance, yielding nothing productive or constructive for the betterment of our Nation and its people.Dialogue becomes confrontational, diversity trumps unification, debate leads to censorship, and perception confuses reality. Our National Pride is undermined by fake news and a new cancel culture. Our ethnicity is challenged and gets confused with race, while free speech negates respect for the opinion of others.WE THE PEOPLE are the true essence of this country. Disingenuous and misleading rhetoric has led our people to aspirational delusions that result in radically mistaken identities. WE THE PEOPLE, the voters of America, deserve the best effort from our legislators without causing the destruction of our social fiber.WE THE PEOPLE, want change for the better, construction and not destruction should be the guiding principle, that will preserve our democracy and the American Dream.

Why pick up yet another book on spiritual and personal growth? This question was the one I asked myself when considering the publication of this book. Originally, I wrote this book to fulfill my Chaplain residency at the Duke University Medical Center in 1998. In my present position as Supervisory Chaplain at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center, a friend of mine encouraged me to pursue publication. So, I share with you what is near and dear to my heart and hope and pray the pages within will assist you on your way to wholeness.

  • - From Slave to Soldier to Savior
    von Bob Iverson
    21,00 €

Jackboy was born into slavery on a Barbados sugar plantation. His constant attempts to escape finally pushed the masters too far. They punished the whole family by splitting them up and selling them off. His father's last words had been, "It's okay, son, don't ever give up." Several years later, wracked by guilt, but still obsessed with freedom, he slips away from a South Carolina tobacco plantation and outsmarts the Confederacy's most vicious slave patrol captain who is hot on his trail. He swims across the Savannah River and taunts his pursuers by hurling obscenities at them from the opposite bank. After days of searching for the safety of Sherman's Army in Georgia, he stumbles across a Confederate soldier behind enemy lines and gets into a life or death fight. A maverick Union lieutenant named Jack Johnson happens upon him just as he is about to bash in the skull of this rebel sniper the officer has been chasing for days. After taking control of the situation and assuring Jackboy that he is safe, Johnson interrogates the young man and discovers he is remarkably intelligent and resourceful. He takes Jackboy under his wing, enlists him into the army, and teaches him to read, write, and use a gun. Jackboy is beguiled and confused as he witnesses the soft-spoken young officer transform into a cold-blooded battlefield killer with his small squad of seasoned troops wielding sixteen shot Henry repeating rifles. When Jackboy asks him about it, Johnson says, "My folks had money and sent me to war with a dozen Henrys. They told me to use them wisely and not to come home dead. I only hand them out to a few veteran soldiers I really trust. We're usually outnumbered, but we're never out-gunned. I figure the faster we kill them all the safer my men will be." Jackboy embraces the logic and hopes to be in that rare company one day.Under Johnson's command, Jackboy learns quickly, gets promoted to sergeant, and is allowed to recruit an all-black squad of raiders who fear him more than the enemy. The ex-slave soon becomes a legend to his own people who readily share valuable intelligence about hidden southern resources and troops. On a mission to plunder Confederate assets, they encounter a small band of terrified black men on the run who report that the same depraved slave patrol captain who once chased after Jackboy is now selling hunting trips to southern elites on his nearby estate using captured runaways as prey animals. The next one is scheduled for the following day. They also share a piece of information so shocking that Jackboy keeps it to himself knowing that no white man would ever believe it possible. When Jackboy reports his findings, Johnson realizes there is no time to seek approval from his commanders or wait for reinforcements. They are the only ones who can prevent the mass slaughter of sixty men, women, and children despite the odds against them. Johnson hands Jackboy one of his spare Henry rifles and says, "You earned it. Kill 'em all and do it fast." Filled with pride, Jackboy replies, "We might be outnumbered, but we won't be out-gunned."With steely resolve, the small band of Union troops launches a rescue mission to save the sixty doomed slaves and maybe even capture two dozen high-ranking enemy officers and politicians. They know it will be bad when they get there, but what they actually find is worse than anyone could have imagined. Then as a complete surprise, in the heat of battle, Jackboy discovers something he thought had been lost forever and earns personal redemption for what his obsession with freedom had once cost his family.

  • - The Reflections of Comfort and Dolores on the Changing Faces of Slavery
    von &#768, Na, de&#769, usw.
    30,00 €

Distinguished Nigerian businessman Kó̩lé has a past full of mysterious heartache and betrayal. Born out of wedlock, young Comfort is a child of low circumstance and few prospects. But their love story is one that hearkens to a more innocent age. Kó̩lé at first resists the much younger Comfort's charms, but when it soon becomes clear they are soulmates, he sets out to mould her into his own made-to-measure bride and the most accomplished of young women.Steeped deeply in the Yorùbá storytelling tradition, the main narrative, told by Kó̩lé himself, is interwoven with the stories of others and African parables to create parallel themes and lessons as the characters move through their own lives and challenges.Kó̩lé lifts Comfort from her own circumstances by providing her with an education otherwise unavailable to her. Her own mother, Ale̩ro̩, whose youthful indiscretion led to Comfort's conception and being forced into a polygamist marriage, is aided by Kó̩lé when her husband dies. Upon Comfort's graduation from A Levels, Kó̩lé unites Comfort with the father she has never met, and Ale̩ro̩ is able to finally forgive herself and Akín, the man who stole her innocence so many years ago. Ale̩ro̩ and Akín marry, and Ale̩ro̩ is able to cast aside the slavery chains of the title paramour.Kó̩lé finally reveals his past to Comfort. When younger, he was engaged to a girl named Tó̩lání. The night before their wedding, he discovered she had been having an affair with another man, Bashy. Distraught, he retreated into the woods to stay with the Sage, a wise old mystic. Comfort earns her degrees in Bristol, England, and Kó̩lé and Comfort marry, but during her studies, Comfort becomes passionate about the history of the slave trade. One day, she learns the story of a wealthy Bristolian white woman, Dolores, who was the daughter of a slave trader. A devout and religious woman, she was disgusted by the family trade and begged her father to stop. She finally convinced him - only after one more sale. He and her brother met a storm on their return from the Caribbean. The twelve slaves survived; her father and brother did not. Dolores liberated the slaves and found a young black tutor, Boripé̩, originally from Nigeria, to teach them English. The former slaves learned trades and gained employment, and Dolores and Boripé̩ fell in love. As no church in Bristol would marry them, they travelled to the Caribbean, where the eventually wed in a church in Antigua.Throughout her years teaching high school, Comfort is haunted by Dolores's story and the horrors of slavery. She sees parallels between the slave trade of old and the political and economic slavery of today. She realises that the only way for the people to take back their lives and the economy is to turn their focus from the white-collar sector that has seduced them with empty promises of prosperity to learning trades that can provide them with self-sufficiency and self-employment. She decides she must finally act, and she and Kó̩lé, with the help of the Sage, set up a trade school. At the trade school, Tó̩lání and Bashy both make an appearance, as they are unknowingly employed there. Comfort and Kó̩lé, with the Sage's help, work to heal the wounds of the past, and eventually all is forgiven. Bashy realises that Tó̩lání was his soulmate and not a mere conquest, and the two marry.

The Wonderful world of Corkle is an imaginary trip to a fanciful island where magical beings, called Porple, await the opportunity to help humans overcome their self-made problems. These characters point out the private traps that we set up for ourselves, and how we might find our way to happiness and fulfillment through self-examination. The poems and fables in The Wonderful World of Corkle are great material for reading aloud. The characters, and the humans they help, stimulate discussion on individual behavior, hopefully assisting the reader, or listener, to look inside themselves for answers. If you find the world an unhappy place, start by changing yourself. The Wonderful World of Corkle may help youngsters deal with self control, positive goal setting, and in understanding why certain behaviors hurt them, and how to make changes. This unique work is written with humor, insight, wisdom, and love. It combines a descriptive narrative and positive messages, with lighthearted imagery to present a creative examination of the human character. Written primarily for children, it may appeal to the child in all of us.

Nicotine, The World's Silent KillerAddiction is defined as giving up all that is important to you for the thing that you are addicted to. Nicotine is highly addictive. It is both a stimulant and a sedative to the central nervous system. When tobacco smoke is inhaled, the injection of Nicotine to the throat is exposed.to more than 7,000 chemicals. The result is almost an immediate "kick" because it causes a discharge of epinephrine from the adrenal cortex. This stimulates the central nervous system and other endocrine glands which causes a sudden release of glucose. Stimulation is then followed by depression and fatigue, leading to the abuser to seek more Nicotine.Nicotine is absorbed readily from tobacco smoke into the lungs, and it does not matter whether the tobacco smoke is from cigarettes, cigars or pipes. Nicotine is also absorbed readily when tobacco is chewed. With regular use of tobacco, levels of nicotine accumulate in the body during the day and persist overnight. Thus, daily smokers or chewers are exposed to the effects of nicotine for 24 hours each day. Nicotine taken in by cigarette or cigar smoking takes 7-10 seconds to reach the brain and it has a direct effect on the body. Smokeless tobacco, also known as; chew, snuff, spit tobacco, plug, chewing tobacco, chaw, dip, and other names, describes a variety of tobacco products that are not smoked by the consumer. Instead, this type of tobacco is usually placed in the mouth between the cheek or lower lip and the gums, where it mixes with saliva and releases juices that contain nicotine. The nicotine is then absorbed through the tissues in the mouth. "Life presents many choices; the choices we make determine our future." You control the path you take in life and remember, there are two types of consequences; negative and positive so the consequence is based on the choice you make. You have the power of choice to get rid of that deadly poison, nicotine, by thinking about its negative effects. There are many benefits to quit smoking, but there is no benefit for continued use of tobacco. If health improvements and more social freedom doesn't motivate you to quit, consider the financial rewards. To find out how much money you can save by quitting smoking, take the cost per day for your smoking materials and multiply it by 365 days. Surprised? Now multiply that amount by 10 so you can see how much you could save in the next 10 years. An effective way to make changes in the way you handle your addiction is to think about the price you have already paid. TO QUIT OR NOT TO QUIT; THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

  • - Defeating Depression, Overcoming Spiritual Oppression, and Finding God's Peace in Troubling Times
    von William L Stephens
    48,00 €

The author is a survivor of depression, and he wants to share his story with you. He faced the darkness of evil and found the light of hope. He was unwilling to become another ruined life caused by this horrible disease. The thought of taking his own life came into his mind at a low moment in time, and it scared the hell out of him. He decided in that instant not to become another statistic of suicide. He would fight back with all he had, depending on the Lord for the strength needed to succeed. He promised God if He would help him defeat this disease, that he would share with anyone who cared to listen. How he did it! This book is the story of a normal guy, with a great life, who came down with this horrible disease. Choosing to be a winner, he started learning as much as he could about the disease and those who suffer from it. Sadly, he learned that many who suffer from depression, are unable or unwilling to even recognize they have this disease. You see there is a stigma/embarrassment that is often associated with it, that many cannot shake. Consequently, many are unwilling/afraid to share with, and ask help from, friends, family and co-workers. They often decide to suffer alone. This author decided to be totally different, to become a winner. He told everyone who would listen that he had depression and planned to defeat it. He decided to share his story no matter how long it took or how many obstacles he faced. He made an effort ten years ago that failed, possibly because he was more interested in financial success than improving people's lives. Today is different! His measure of success now, is to help as many people as possible. We, and our great country are in troubling times, where more people are facing endless anxiety, fears, panic and problems without solutions, than ever before in America's history. The author is confident that a reader will find Through Valleys to Victory: Defeating Depression, Overcoming Spiritual Oppression, and Finding God's Peace in Troubling Times, is a book far different from any others written on this subject.
