In the year 1700, a young French Army Captain sets foot on the Gulf Coast of our continent, trudges off into the wilderness and becomes one of this country's overlooked Founding Fathers. Warrior, explorer, intimate friend of the Indian nations, imprisoned twice for smuggling, Louis Juchereau de St. Denis was the driving force in the settlement of French Louisiana and Spanish Texas. In the Novel, "Tame the Wild Land", the drama of his remarkable life is portrayed. After enduring extreme hardships and risking his life for the King of France, he becomes disillusioned and dedicates the rest of his life to his two remaining loves: Louisiana and the beautiful Manuela. But the impetus that repeatedly places him in harm's way is the dilemma his colony faces: to keep Louisiana French, he must insure that Texas remains in the hands of his Spanish adversaries. The book is a fictional treatment of a period in our history that is somewhat neglected: the roles played by France and Spain in the taming of wild America.

Nearly true tales of a really cool parrot"Viva Cisco" is a trilogy of funny stories for kids at the Age 10-13 reading level. All three tales unfold in a land called Topopootl, which lies in a hidden valley deep in the heart of Mexico. Because of its seclusion, the inhabitants have created a society without the benefit of human contact, and they don't seem to have missed out on anything important in the absence of that dubious blessing. In fact, they probably have more pure merriment and boisterous excitement than any human community could ever conceive. Much of the credit for that, though, must be laid at the feet of Topopootl's most..uh.. stimulating citizen, one Cisco las Verde Arara del Gucigalpa. Aka, Cisco the Parrot. His is an ego burning brightly, and his quest is for nothing less than becoming the most notable dude in all Topopootl. In "Am I Famous Yet?", he wends his fractured way from being the Answer Man in Topopootl's public library, through a very public failure in "Show Biz", a humiliating defeat in Anything Goes Wrestling (at the hands of two little cockroaches), a "Mayday"; attempt at a high-altitude record for Parrots and, finally, to opening a very weird business; The Word Man-whose motto is, "Learn a big word and impress your friends.- The reader is sure to be spellbound as Cisco makes the sale of one of his Deluxe models: the word, "extracurricular" - a big impresser. In "Cisco-PI", he combines the skills of Inspector Clouseau and Barney Fife in tackling Topopootl's first and only crime wave, a rash of burglaries. In a dazzling display of illogical thinking, he manages to accuse some innocent youngsters of being members of a crime family, and he fingers none other than Topopootl's President as their Godfather. Even by Cisco standards, it is a stunning blunder. But he musters his will, applies his nimble brain to some very mysterious clues, and actually solves the case. The burglaries, it turns out, were all the work of Harry the Pack Rat, who traveled down from North America to put together a "Mexican Collection." That, in fact, is his plea as he is brought before the citizens of Topopootl "It wasn't stealing. It was collecting." In this, the second book of the trilogy, Cisco is redeemed and achieves his coveted recognition, which serves to make him a worthy leader in the daring adventure that follows."Cisco and the Secret Room", Book Three, has Cisco leading four of his pals on a very dangerous mission to retrieve ancient evidence of Topopootl's origins. In a secret room in the heart of a mysterious pyramid, they discover the story of how Topopootl came into existence and who saved it from extinction. As they read the inscriptions on the walls of the remarkable chamber, a tale unfolds of the Aztecs and Spaniards making the land unlivable for its non-human inhabitants; of a desperate expedition to find a place of refuge and peace; of the founding of Topopootl; of the threat of its extinction by a human invasion; finally, of the remarkable army of little skunks who save the day-and Topopootl-only by employing their secret weapon: El Gordo.

A German family driven - and torn apart - by deeply held secrets. Bloodlines explores how our pasts and pedigrees can have unexpected impacts on our futures and progeny. Using as backdrop thoroughbred racing, breeding and betting parlors; bourbon distilleries; the arcane business of powder metal manufacturing, and the world's "beautiful game" of soccer, author Rob Hilliard takes readers from post-World War II Germany to 1980s Kentucky and Virginia ... from the U.S., Canada and the U.K. to Ireland, the European Continent and Israel ... from the early years of the Civil Rights movement to the fall of the Berlin Wall. How these disparate worlds, locations and individuals become entwined over decades drives this sweeping story of corporate intrigue, international drama and, most of all, the family ties that bind them.

The culture is out of control, everyone knows it, and Dancing to Mozart is an imaginative satire that will appeal to readers who sense that the best way to deal with the situation is to have a good laugh at its expense. Personal relationships, silly behavior, Hollywood movies, extremes in politics and religion-eccentric characters and other wacky stuff offer the reader a good deal of amusement in colorful worldwide settings that include Europe, Africa, Asia, and New York City. Of course, there is a plot to the story, and it carries the reader along to the final and sensible ending, where all is resolved and the characters come to a common sense view of themselves and the world around them.

This book presents a new paradigm for the origin of Life on Earth by introducing the atomic definition of life and comparing it to the traditional organic meaning of life. It searches for the carbon-based origin of life, makes a detailed logical evaluation of the Intelligent Design hypothesis, and explains why it is a valid scientific hypothesis that needs an improved argument. It challenges the random environmental condition of the abiogenesis hypotheses as a viable one to explain the presence of the carbon-based cell compared to the biogenesis reproduction process. It introduces a new definition for the information concept to support two deductive reasoning arguments that infer the past existence of an intelligent entity as the responsible cause for the emergence of carbon-based cells and their genetic information. Amongst other topics, it discusses in detail the practical use of Karl Popper's falsifiability concept. It introduces a new definition of existence to help us find Bertrand Russell's teapot orbiting between Earth and Mars and demystify the wrong notion that we cannot prove a negative. It also explains why the Explanatory Power of a hypothesis used in the philosophy of science is not a practical comparison tool for choosing the best possible explanation between competing hypotheses. Finally, it reviews evolution's vital role as a cause in the same line of actions as the emergence of the carbon-based cell for the presence and complexity of Earth's carbon-based living entities. And ultimately challenges future generations to look for the origins of life at the atomic level in the structure and functionality of the carbon-based cells.

Imagine sitting in the cockpit of a jet fighter descending to the rolling, moving flight deck of a super carrier at sea. You have 600 feet of flight deck to thread the eye of the needle and land safely. Ten thousand times ten thousand this dangerous drama has been repeated in the history of American carrier aviation. It is simply extraordinary. This drama at sea if viewed through the proper lens can have great spiritual significance for your life. Imagine that the flight deck represents your safe haven in life, the place you return to again and again for meaning and stability. The flight deck is also the catapult for every new mission in life but here's the hook; God script for your life written by His own hand is better than any script you could write for yourself. Without God's script engaging your life, the bolters and wave-offs in your life's vocation will be frequent and the safe traps upon His flight deck few.For me to say to you, "Choose God's script," is far too simple and simplistic. Discovering God's script for your life is much more complex and often counterintuitive against the powers of human reasoning. Nevertheless, it is only His script for your life that will lead you through the eye of the needle to reach the blessed end of God's script for your dreams. Life, your life, is a great drama. Take the chance and live without God's script and you will bolter again and again with the imminent danger of ditching your plane into the angry sea. God alone threads the needle reframing your life until He brings you safely aboard His celestial flight deck turning every ordinary life into something truly extraordinary. I have written this little book from my heart to yours via real life vignettes spread across the spectrum of my own ordinary life demonstrating that the grace of God is alive, active and at work. If God above can touch my ordinary life with His extraordinary grace as I wander about in the midst of eight billion souls strolling across planet earth and keep me on the narrow path of His vocation chosen for me, will He not do the same for you? Most certainly true. You're approaching the flight deck. Flaps down. Tailhook down. Call the Ball! Trapped! You have safely landed on the celestial flight deck of God's grace ready for a new extraordinary mission in your ordinary life. Discover God's script for you. To God be all the glory.

For centuries, the liturgy of the Catholic Church, the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM), was renowned for its elegance, profound sacredness and transcendent beauty. With Pope John's "aggiornamento" as realized by the Second Vatican Council, the faithful were presented with the "Novus Ordo" (new order) mass, a liturgy designed to be more down to earth and involve the congregation more. For Ed Korczynski,-and many other Catholics-with this decision, the Church trashed a magnificent liturgy and replaced it with a mundane, not-too-special, somewhat holy social gathering. In recent years, the crime has been compounded by Pope Francis' motu propio, Traditionis Custodes, clearly intended to deprecate the TLM in favor of the Novus Ordo. In Part One of the book, Korczynski reports that this was never the intent of the Council fathers. The Dogmatic Constitution on the Liturgy makes it clear that the Council intended to retain the TLM.

Paris more than blossomed between World War I and World War II-it was considered by many to be the cultural and artistic capital of the world. Artists and thinkers from every corner of the globe visited or moved there, interacting with each other and developing some of our most exciting modern expression. In Traitor Comet, not even the troubled young Austrian Geoff Weidmann is immune to the city's allure. A hermit back home, he unwillingly joins his brother, Franz, and Franz's French wife in Paris after his father forces the reunion. Though Geoff remains haunted by his violent past-both the Great War and what he might have done against another man on his farm-when he meets the surrealist poets Antonin Artaud and Robert Desnos, his world cracks open. Antonin holds a mirror to Geoff's experiences, and Geoff ultimately comes to learn from their similarities; Robert is jovial and irreverent, fresh air lightening Geoff's life. Both men are original, creative thinkers willing to argue against even the founder of the surrealist movement of which they are a part.Part thrilling mystery, part coming-of-age tale, part page-turning history lesson, Traitor Comet is the first title in a historical novel series based on the real lives of avant-garde writers Antonin Artaud and Robert Desnos. It is also the first book, fiction or nonfiction, to focus on their unique friendship, which ultimately led one man to save the other from the Nazis. This little-known aspect of the lives of these otherwise famous men means that author Personne, an independent journalist, historian, and researcher, has a wealth of information to continue this story-from this introduction to these men who loved free thought and action into a dramatic series about these rebels with a cause.

I keep walking by the sea; which is nothing new for me; I live on the sea; but there is a new feel; the breeze was always warm, or sharp with winter's cup. Now there is a deep coldness, sweeping into my bones, but I feel no fear. There is no threat of evil chill. This is different; as if once again I was a seal or penguin and the arctic cool was a familiar home, bracing and alive. Once again, I say, it sweeps off the water into my soul with a familiar role. Someone from the ocean is my home.
