National reports on literacy were challenged during the conference. Grounded evidence was given of literacy programs that work to make a difference for groups with diverse needs. Epistemic authority is compatible with autonomy, but epistemic self-reliance is incoherent. In 1982, she was writer-in-residence at the University of Wollongong. She died in 2008 in Italy.
