It was time for me to gather my girls and leave my train wreck of a marriage. The divorce, although needed and inevitable, was as messy and complicated as the marriage.We were separated at least a year before he filed. I had been doing me. A collection of short story poems, written for my grandson, Mason, for his first Christmas. Each one was written with the hope they would trigger pictures in his imagination. We hope they do the same thing when you read them to your child or grandchild!

Cultivation of the Heart is the antidote for the impenetrable hearts-young people who have suffered from a great number of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). Although many have deemed our youth who are at the center of gun violence to be "e;unreachable,"e; research and evidence has shown that investing in our youth can produce significant positive results in their overall behavior and ability to resolve conflict. I know firsthand because a licensed psychologist diagnosed me as someone who was so prone to violence due to my exposure to trauma at an early age, that the chances of me ever changing were slim to none. She said that I would always resort to violence as a means of problem-solving. Fortunately for me, I had mentors, family, and friends that poured positive energy, love, and support into me that eventually softened my heart, reversing the abuse, abandonment, and trauma that had over the years hardened my heart as a young man growing up in the concrete jungles of Richmond, California. They loved me when I didn't know what it meant to love myself. They showed me how to love myself when I didn't have a clue. All of my mentors were experts in the field of de-escalation and relationship building.You can't help someone grow if they don't trust you. The callouses formed on a damaged person's heart is designed to protect them from more hurt and from further damage. The problem with a hardened heart is that you can't plant seeds in it that are sure to produce positive fruits that all can benefit from. It's impenetrable. Therefore, the seeds of love that need to get in can't get in, and the seeds of hate, heartache, and pain that need to get out can't be weeded out. At least, while that person is still the owner of a hardened heart. However, once a mentor with the skill of a farmer enters their life and begins to cultivate the heart, positive seeds can be planted, negativity can be weeded out, and beautiful fruits can be produced.With the help of others who invested in me, I embraced the process of heart cultivation and discovered that I could do so much more with a soft heart than I could ever do with a hardened heart. Nothing good can ever be produced from a barren land, but fertile ground is the seed bed for miraculous things that are often beyond our wildest dreams. Cultivation of the Heart is that seed bed where miraculous transformation and beautiful evolutions take place. We credible mentors have to be the skilled farmers who cultivate the hearts of our young people, especially those at the center of gun violence who are simply sharing the hurt and pain with us that the world has given them.

This is the story of a young girl born in the Ukraine (USSR ) who lived during the brutal years and the massacre of millions of people in Ukraine by the Stalin regime. She lost her father and mother and was saved by her uncle, who became not only her protector but also her true love. She witnessed the change in the Germans, from friends before WWII to the cruelty during the invasion and occupation of Russia and their defeat. After her uncle's death, she married a young Red Army lieutenant who, after his promotion to captain, was sent with her and her daughter to northern Siberia to be one of the managing officials of a gulag (concentration camp). There she witnessed the barbarism and murder of the prisoners by the camp guards. After three years, they divorced, and with her daughter, she traveled to Moscow where she worked as a nurse for several years. She met an American businessman and, after her daughter became a world-famous opera singer, married him and immigrated to the USA. Upon his death many years later, she returned to her homeland, Ukraine.

The Whisper Lion is a fun and thoughtful story great for children of any age. Sometimes it can be discouraging to grow up in a big world full of other "e;scary"e; animals, but learning to value our own uniqueness to overcome challenges and seek answers is a great lesson for any cub to learn. This book is able to do that by creatively showing the value of being quiet and calm as well, which I'm sure is a virtue that any parent would love too!

The purpose of this book is to draw readers' attention to various legal intricacies associated with deploying self-directed artificial intelligence systems (AIS), particularly emphasizing the limits of the law, vis-a-vis liability problems that may emerge within third-party contracts. With the advent of today's ostensive "e;Amazon Halo or Alexa,"e; consumers are having to conclude contracts (e.g., sale of goods and distant financial services) in much more complex (cybernetic) environments. Generally, with one party acting in the capacity of a human being while the other (as an autonomous thing/device [AIS] with capabilities well beyond that of humans) representing the interests of others (not just other humans). Yet traditional jurisprudence is limited in scope for holding these systems legally accountable if they were to malfunction and cause harm. Interestingly, within the judicial system itself, the use of AIS is more prevalent now, including within the criminal justice system in some jurisdictions. In the United States, for instance, AIS algorithms are utilized to determine sentencing and bail processing. Still, jurists find themselves limited to traditional legal methodologies and tools when tackling novel situations brought about by these systems. For example, traditional strict liability concept, as applied in tort law, typically ties responsibility to the person(s) (e.g., AIS developers) influencing the decision-making process. In contract law, particularly where third parties are concerned, AIS are equated to tools for the purposes of traditional strict liability rules. Thus, binding anyone on whose behalf they would have acted (irrespective of whether such acts were intentional or foreseeable).

Today started as any other day, with the exception that today, I was getting a typewriter to start my cookbook. On May 10, 2013, my wife was looking for a recipe for a jalapeno quiche to prepare for Mother's Day, May 12. As my wife was looking for this recipe, she looked through this big pile of papers. She made a "e;throw-away pile"e; and a "e;keep pile."e; I had an "e;aha"e; moment, much like Oprah has from time to time; most of you can relate too. My thought was something like, This one man's trash is another man's treasure, recipes that endearing clients and friends had given us throughout the years. And as I picked up the pile and looking and reading through the recipes, this flood of memories surrounded me; the pile she has gathered is 90 percent recipes. I am one short of 100.
