This book has murder, rape, riots, explosions, fistfights, demons, aliens, and even an appearance by the devil himself. I wrote this book while living in my van on napkins and open-house fliers in a drug-induced haze. It is a journey of the mind, and it is dripping with blood. It is The Dead Files.

I was knocked down by a shell. As I found myself laying on my back, the half-full flamethrower tank pinning me to the ground, a North Korean soldier came at me with his bayonet. In his quilted suit, he seemed to come out of nowhere. I can still see his face and smell the garlic on his breath. As he lunged at me, I was able to turn, but he stabbed my upper left arm with his bayonet. I had a double-barrel shotgun taped on the arm of my flamethrower and gave him both barrels. I think I blew him in half. The battle kept going on around me. Weapons fire was all around me, and I heard other boys being hit and falling. I laid there feeling weak as blood from my deep wound seeped out on the Korean dirt. This book is intended to be an encouragement to all readers that no matter how difficult life is, we can always trust the Lord and know that He will be there for us and help us through tough times. As you read my story, you will see that I had a very difficult childhood with abuse and a self-destructing young adulthood with alcoholism and constant fighting. However, with God's help I was able to run away from darkness and find shelter in His mercy. Throughout my life I have had a lot of fear, sadness, and depression because of my father's abuse, but God was always there with me. Although during my childhood I did not believe in God, now I know that He protected me all the time. I could have died many times due to the abuse, but I am still alive. When I learned about God and accepted Him as my personal Savior, my life took a 180 degree turn for the better. From a drunkard and a street fighter I became a sincere Christian who loves everybody. God also blessed me with a wonderful wife, and I am so thankful for that. I cannot praise the Lord enough for all the things that He has done for me. With the Lord's help I was able to overcome the difficulties. I did it and you can do it, too! Just believe in Jesus as your personal Savior, and you will see the positive changes in your life.

The book is about the change Matthew underwent by following the son of God in this earthly realm. One thing is for sure: Matthew could never go back to collect taxes for the Romans again. This novel dramatizes the underdog's fight for survival against an unjust system. It is about the brutal, shocking, and horrific world of Navy boot camp during the Vietnam conflict. The story's protagonist is nineteen-year-old Carl Travis, an anti-war activist who flunks out of Kent State because he spends more time protesting the Vietnam War than keeping up with his studies. He then forfeits his student deferment and risks being drafted into the Army. He does not want to flee to Canada to escape the draft nor does he want to go to prison for five years, so he enlists in the US Navy's hospital corps to avoid combat and the killing. He enters basic training and boasts to his shipmates about rioting at Kent State in May 1970, when National Guardsmen fired on protestors and killed four students. Carl's Navy superior officers learn about his anti-war past and threaten to make his life a living hell if he stirs up any trouble with his shipmates. Carl endures the harassment and brutal disciplinary action against him for resisting Navy rules and regulations and for protesting the mistreatment of other recruits. He (?) me to my heart a to the Holy Spirit, who put a little extra somethin', and I began to experience an abundance of the Spirit. I thanked God that day because I had experienced overflow. Overflow allows every willing human being to spread that extra spiritual energy to someone whose cup isn't quite full. It's commonly manufactured from within and spills out like lava from a volcano. It is extremely contagious. But the feeling is simply unbeatable. Christians that are working a foundation from inside out most times will always experience overflow. Overflow is that substance that starts churning and burning within your soul. It's too much to keep to yourself. Like patterns of the Holy Spirit, it spews out without permission or warning. That's when you know deep down in your soul that you have experienced exactly what you were created for: sharing the joy and good news of Christ, helping others, lifting spirits. Once you experience overflow, it's an act that you will crave for eternity. When our cup is full, we begin to feel inadequate and may even sometimes question God, especially when we see others going through hard times and we can't help. We tend to feel useless. We need overflow to conquer those feelings. The Bible is always urging us to help and serve others. If you are only serving God and not serving your fellow brother or sister, then sadly that person will not experience overflow. Throughout life, most people have to struggle with making life's decisions. These decisions not only involve the individual making the decision but also his family and in some cases the public. The life of a law enforcement officer involves all three. This burden is often stressful taxing one's conscience to the breaking point. The individual has to rely on his family background and values instilled in him throughout his life. A strong faith and belief that all has to be fair and just is viewed as an idealistic approach that everyone strives toward in making decisions. To truly adopt this fairness honesty and justice philosophy in your life's decisions is extremely difficult in today's world. Many choose to prostitute their convictions for their jobs, money, status, and power rationalizing their decisions for personal gain, leaving humanity in ashes.As a law enforcement officer, his daily decisions directly effects his fellow man. This burden is self-inflicted by the individual to do the right thing, or to go along with the good-old-boy attitude. The latter accomplishes nothing and is actually looked down upon by the honest public. The public truly wants a leader they can trust to carry out this honesty and justice philosophy; however, the public has no clue to the sacrifices that one has to make in order to achieve these goals. In order for one to fulfill his mission on striving for honesty and fairness, he has to become a slave of convictions. Thus, the partial title.This title must be evaluated by the reader of the book on whether or not the main character in the book was, in fact, dedicated to his convictions. By infusing the diary of corruption into the book title poses to the reader a decision-making process in which he decides whether the diary is proof that corruption exist or all this is just the way it is and no one can change these practices. The actual diaries represent a compilation of daily entries into the diaries documenting the author's daily life. The author of this book does not seek the approval of his life's path but rather poses the question.What would you do if you were in his shoes? Walk the walk and talk the talk or acquiesce because it is too costly.Fairness. Honesty. Justice for all. I hope.
