This book is about the real Old West. The research presented here comes from what I've found during my more than forty-five years of researching American history, but especially what I've learned in regards to the other side of the myths and legends of the Old West. In 2010, I started a blog, The American Cowboy Chronicles, to share what I've learned and celebrate the virtues of America. My articles on the Old West have never been meant to dispel the myths or attack legends but to simply explain what I've found after taking a hard look, an honest look, an objective look, at the evidence that's available. Since evidence proves or disproves what we've all been told about the Old West by Hollywood and writers who are not objective researchers, this is my attempt at taking a fresh look at Wyatt Earp, Tom Horn, and others. But mostly, this book is about why the American Cowboy became America's quintessential role model. This book looks at why the American Cowboy represents American toughness, independence, and resilience to the rest of the World.

The first part of the book introduces the reader to what it is like to be a child who is different. The reader experiences how exceptional this is through Mia, who had a special different friend whom she loved spending days together with at school. As the story continues on, one day something dark happens, and Mia learns that she needs her mama to help her understand and cope with the grief of the tragic news. The middle of the story focuses on tough questions and the feelings that often come when someone experiences a life-changing event. Mia shows the different emotions we may go through after losing someone while also providing opportunities to express them through reflection, stopping and talking about our own experiences and comforting each other. The author includes the ideas of how diverse cultures have their own traditions of coping and cherishing the times we have had with a loved one. The story also shows how the concepts of faith in God, a parent's love, and the healing process of remembrance aid in managing the feelings and emotions that one feels. The author examines the importance of life's challenges and how it affects lives every day through uncertainty, which lingers at the beginning and end of life's journey. The story depicts how appreciating the importance of friendship, kindness, love and respect for someone who is different shows a caring sentiment. It opens the door to discuss a theme that can be hard to talk about with young children after the loss of a loved one. It encourages parents and children to be open about their feelings and emotions in times of a crisis and that unforeseen conditions sometimes visit us suddenly in life. At the end of the story, the author explains these occurrences through the memories of the ones who had and lost a special different friend and how empathy and compassion through this tough time empowered healing.

We'll start out with them going school. They're in the ninth grade and were like other kids, normal. As they go up each grade, things start to change. Most of the time it's normal but one day they're going to school. The girl saw one of the girls hugging him, and she was smiling, when he walked over there. She asked him does he love her, and he said, "e;Actually, yes,"e; and that's when everything was going on. They also put a band together and played in clubs. Every year one club put on the battle of bands, so they signed up for that and won the battle of the bands. They became famous all over the world. The same girl was making some of the girls scary to date that boy. They had a contract and recorded their songs in New York, then after three years they had the Mafia after them, where they stole fifty billion dollars and a rare diamond. They used their skill for those years, but the Mafia finally caught up with them. It looked like there was no more Fabulous 8, but they were still alive. They were getting makeover and were called different names and became double agents. They put bionics in them for them to save the world of bad guys but to find out their parents were aliens from another planet and they had superpowers, but that will be in the second book.

Tailspin is all about recovery and crash landing. All about the discovery of a reason d'etre and who could know God's mind and that it's impossible to be good without God. The book is an exploration of the Vietnam conflict from my personal experience. Given the time and distance from the event, the perspective becomes more clear. Two administrations, Lyndon Johnson's and Richard Nixon's, lied, distorted and extended the war for years, resulting in thousands more dead and wounded. Cabinet members such as McNamara and Kissinger were directly culpable in misleading the American public regarding the success of operations in that country. Perhaps most tragic were the nonstop visits by government officials and members of Congress to Vietnam. They were feted, debauched, and lied to. Their subsequent press conferences always painted a rosy picture of progress and winning. As early as 1965, the CIA was reporting the conflict as being unwinnable. There were several unique properties of this conflict. While only one in five GIs were assigned combat duty, there were no "e;safe"e; or "e;rear"e; areas. Nobody had the luxury of relaxing, feeling safe. GIs were rotated in and out of country on an individual basis. When our tour was over, we were put on an airplane, and hours later, we were back in the land of the BIG PX with little or no decompression time. The logistics of removal of the dead was so efficient there was almost never a chance to say goodbye, to pay respects, to process the loss. Perhaps the two most unique elements of the conflict were the fact that we never lost a battle but lost the war and the surreal intrusion of live war coverage every night into the television sets of America. This latter fact gave birth to pressures on MACV to invent such news bits as body count, hooches burned, acres of defoliation, and gallons of Agent Orange. Throughout this circus, the American fighting man distinguished himself as a warrior, as a patriot, and as resilient in the face of a determined and skilled enemy. Once back in the USA, there was trauma and vitriol experienced by many at airports and street demonstrations. Agent Orange and PTSD have combined to result in more Vietnam vets dying by suicide than died during the conflict. The nation's homeless population is, even today, comprised approximately 20 percent Nam vets. The healing began with the Vietnam Memorial (the Wall) and has picked up some momentum with the Honor Flight Program.
