My dad, Morris Chadwick "Chad" Gaffin, was an all-American kind of guy who was a devout Christian, a professional Scouter with the Boy Scouts of America, and an artillery officer with the US Army during the Cold War. He was a well-meaning and charismatic guy who unfortunately suffered from a mental illness known as bipolar disorder. Despite being diagnosed with this mental illness in the middle of his life, he refused to admit it and take the appropriate medicine. Unfortunately, his mental illness worsened with age, and he began to inadvertently destroy his relationships with people, which prevented him from fully accomplishing his ultimate goal in life of becoming a minister. Most of the bad things in Dad's life were done to himself, but he always saw himself as a victim of evil people out to destroy him. Despite the unflattering and embarrassing realities of his bipolar disorder, this book will fully examine his life and explain how our family dealt with his mental illness and difficult personality. It was sad to watch Dad's life slowly spiral downward into a personal hell as he became his own worst enemy, especially with his personal relationships and finances. For those who knew him best, he was ultimately loved and appreciated as a person who wanted to make a positive impact on the world. Maybe this book could give his life more meaning and serve as a cautionary tale for those with similar loved ones who refuse to seek help.

Washington and Oregon are often thought of as a wet green area, and indeed, a lot of it is. After all, Washington is known as the Evergreen State. However, a large part of the area lying east of the Cascade Range is desert or near desert, albeit much of that area is irrigated for agricultural purposes. East of the Cascades takes the reader on a photographic journey through that region in a county-by-county manner. The journey starts in the Columbia River Gorge then heads north to the Canadian border then back south, eventually landing in the southeastern corner of Washington. Crossing into Oregon, the travel path works its way west to the Cascades then south and east, ending in Malheur County in southeastern Oregon. Several photographs from each county traversed are included. Brief historical facts and other information of interest for each county are included with each set of county photographs. While not intended to be a travel guide, the book gives the reader a feeling for the sights and terrain to be seen throughout eastern and central Washington and Oregon.

In a world that is increasingly being aware, in a political and cultural sense, of issues surrounding marginalised communities, this book gives a riveting account of the history, culture and politics of the Olukumi people, a marginalised Yoruba community unlike others that had hitherto been the subject of mainstream literature and debates.The Olukumi people are a bilingual (both Yoruba and Ibo) and sophisticated Black African community who were the first humans to inhabit their indigenous homeland but continue to be marginalised and discriminated by the majority newly arrived neighbours. The community practiced female to female marriages long before minority rights (like the LGBTQIA+ rights) came to be recognised even in so-called advanced Western countries like America and in Europe. It is because the Olukumis face appalling discrimination and deprivation at home that they continue to migrate. Yet, their culture of respect for minorities and tolerance for diverse opinions still survive.This book is about war and diplomacy. It is also about migration and settlement as well as a people's determination for survival and coexistence. It is told from an exclusively Olukumi perspective and written by an Olukumi indigene.

This book covers many questions about how we as a country got to Black American racism. As I found more and more answers, I realized how many of them were totally new to me and how I felt that I had been so deceived about so much of our history. After talking to many people, Black and white, I knew that it wasn't just me who had been deceived. There is so much that has been done to Black Americans over the ages, not just slavery, that I felt everyone could understand better if various truths were revealed. One Black young man I discussed this with seemed to visibly feel better about himself just hearing some of these basic truths.Eugenics, I believe, was worse than slavery. Eugenics founder, Galton, was a first cousin to Charles Darwin. This was all related to Malthus, who decided in 1795 that overpopulation was a dire emergency. Eugenics was the answer to who should be allowed to live or reproduce in order to keep the world population down. The geologic timetable, evolution, overpopulation, and eugenics all came about in the early 1800s before any carbon dating. Who is still pushing this, and how does it all relate to American racism?

This is the story of my family and their struggles through a very tough time during WWII and their strength, faith in God, and tenacity during a very dark period in history--a story of a family finding strength and courage to carry on when all was dark.
