After presenting my wife with a picture of her, Mom and Dad's house, that I had an artist paint for her, and listening to the poem I wrote, "In this House," of their old home place, I stood proudly while my brother-in-law read the poem and 250 people sat with tears in their eyes and sobs in their tissues.I walked into my niece's house with a simple sheet of paper in my hand. She was preparing to attend her son's funeral and sat crying by the window. I handed her the paper on which I had written the poem, "Hand-in-Hand." She wiped her eyes and read it, then stood up and hugged me."That is so beautiful Uncle Bob. How did you know, 'Lighthouses' were his favorite collection hobby? I had printed the poem on a paper, with a beautiful, faded lighthouse in the background. Poetry expresses what the spoken word sometimes can't!

In this series (based on my nightmares and inspired by Ezekiel 37), I feel like my Higher Power is telling me that it's now my turn to come out of the valley of dry bones and to take my place as the writer he's meant for me to be.

When I was incarcerated and serving three years, I read a lot of books. Donald Goins became my favorite author because his writing is what I could relate to the most. I also read books written by Terry Woods, Sista Soulja, and David Fisher, among other great authors. I had a cellmate who became a good friend of mine. We shared stories about our lives. One day he told me that we could write a book about all the crimes we had witnessed in our lives. That night I lay in my bed, thinking to myself that of all the books I've read, many of the characters reminded me of some people in my life. That was when I realized I could become a writer.This book is based on two characters, Kevin, and Akeem, who were young thugs born and raised on the streets of Philadelphia. They mastered a hustler's dream of survival and gained respect from others. They were loyal to each other, and their goal was to succeed in the hood where they both grew up. They became cocaine dealers, marijuana smokers, and gun holders. They were outlaws. Despite the passing of time, they were haunted by the streets, and the lust for money caused lost lives. Kevin's experiences made him realize that thug life wasn't the way to live, and through the support of his family, he could become a better person. Akeem, on the other hand, did not share the same views. Any misfortunes made him worse. He felt that the lifestyle of a thug was his only way to succeed. Despite this, the bond between them was never broken.This book is about the experiences of inner-city neighborhoods. It's about the life of thugs and the game that young teens choose to play, especially in the streets of Philly. The never-ending cycle of drugs, violence, love, and loss will continue for generations to come.

Good Days, Bad Days is a versatile collection. There is free verse. There is a wide range of traditional poetry, some hybrid in nature. Readers will find the haiku, tanka, cinquain, limerick, ballade, and sonnet forms. The poems total sixty-nine. Sincere effort and invention characterize this poetic work's high quality. The Golden Box came from an idea from the kids' perspective that anything golden is a treasure. The kids in the story would collect different items from the town dump and put them into a box, which they would be influenced by three witches' spell and transferred them back in time and forward into the future struggling to find their one lost friend. There was nothing spectacular about the beat-up cardboard box; it was the contents that made it the golden box. As the saying goes, "One man's garbage is another man's treasure," hence, golden.

Irvin R. Athearn was a pioneer in model trains beginning in the late 1940s. He started in his garage putting together O Gauge metal car kits then expanded them to include HO Scale kits. 1393 Pacific Street: Can You Take It? is a book designed to encourage and help all ministers in the Christian faith with examples of triumphs, disappointments, victories, and struggles in ministry. My experience has been that there are not too many who have had a mentor or guide to lead them in the different aspects of what it takes to minister to the sheepfold of God. There aren't too many who've been encouraged by an elder in the ministry to "press their way." So what I've attempted to do is just that: provide some examples and answers on how to persevere and overcome. I pray that what you've read encourages your heart as you partner with Christ in ministry.
