Wyoming is my home. I am grateful to have lived here most of my life. Before I joined the Marine Corps in 2001, I loved Wyoming. Returning home after my commitment to the Marines, I appreciated it even more. Sure, I like to visit all sorts of other places in the world, but Wyoming is the land that I love. I have always enjoyed drawing and painting. My career in art began when I graduated high school and went into the Marine Corps as a Combat Illustrator. After 4 years of service in the Corps, I went to college at Black Hills State University in Spearfish SD for a Bachelor's of Science in Art and Communication Art with a minor in Photography. I have been painting full-time since graduation from college in 2009. I enjoy the outdoors, hunting and fishing. This is where I experience most of the things I paint. I try my best to accurately reflect the beauty that God created around me. My best work, I believe, is when I can do just that: reflect the work of God's hand. It's my goal to progress with quality and achievements. I am a member of the Society of Animal Artists where my art has been in the Rocky Mountain Animal Artists show and the Art and the Animal Tour. I was blessed to be chosen to have my art on the 2012 National Wild Turkey Stamp and have received 3rd at Wyoming's Conservation stamp competition. I also strive to be a part of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Art program, Birds in Art, The Wyoming Conservation Stamp, The Federal Duck Stamp and many others.... Those goals are for tomorrow, I don't know what will happen tomorrow, I do know that I am blessed today. Lord willing, I will be able to continue to paint in the years to come. Stay tuned.....

Lighten Up! There's enough pain, suffering and stress to go around. Jesus said that while we are in this world we shall have tribulation, not may have. Though this is not very encouraging, it is necessary that we know what we're up against. The Lord is not trying to discourage us in our journey but prepare us for the road ahead. Because of His great love for us, He desires to impart everything necessary to have a joy filled life in Him. This being the foundation of the warning sign of coming tribulation, we can now move to the next sign that reads, Lighten up! Well not really, it actually reads, be of good cheer I have overcome the world. If that promise doesn't ooze, "I got this," then nothing does. Jesus is so amazing and limitless. He tells us trouble is imminent and in the same breath proclaims we will not be overtaken as long as we look to Him. The passion to write and illustrate a comic strip is found in this truth, that Jesus knows the world is going to be ugly and mean, yet if we gaze in His direction He has an abundance of joy, peace, happiness and yes, laughter to experience. His supply is without end, and it is His desire that we are filled with His joy and peace. Make sure you take time to laugh today, even if you laugh at yourself, which I do quite often. Be careful you're not consumed by the weight of everyday life and spend some quality time with Christ. We know the Lord has a sense of humor; He made us. Enjoy this collection of Preacher's Kids comic strips that span over 14 years. Hopefully they will bring a smile, perhaps stir a memory of being in a similarly humorous situation or most importantly cause you to think about the wonderful Savior who gave everything, so we could live and have life eternal. Remember Jesus said if we refuse to become as a little child we cannot enter His kingdom, and what child is not filled with contagious laughter? May God bless you and grant you a life filled with all the greatness He has to offer, Dr. David Ayers

Home, home on the plains...... My name is Linda Roesch; I am an artist. I've lived in South Dakota for most of my life, and I still get my mail at an address just seven miles from where I was raised. But I love to travel, and as I've gotten older my travels have taken me farther and farther from home. Travel has proven to be the best education, and I am truly thankful for every day spent on the road. The watercolor and acrylic paintings featured in this book were completed between 2014-2018, depicting places and events happening in and around North and South Dakota. I've spent the last two years working as a teaching artist in both states during the school year, and in the summer months you'll find me selling paintings at art festivals throughout the Midwest. I love working en plein air, and many of the paintings in this book were started on location; others were completed in my basement studio using reference photos. Come along with me on this journey as we celebrate the subtle beauty of the open plains! Our rolling hills and stark prairie dotted by the occasional grain elevator; the landmark old house that has withstood generations; and my all time favorite..... our clouds in June. The printing of this book was made possible by a grant from the South Dakota Arts Council. Many thanks to the Council for sponsoring projects such as these! This book is dedicated to my Grandpa, and to my college professors who are still supportive of my artistic endeavors.

My name is Linda Roesch; I am an artist. Growing up on a family farm in rural South Dakota, I learned to appreciate the subtle beauty of the open prairies. I have an affinity for falling down farm houses, old gas stations and abandoned elevators (of the grain exchange variety), and many of my paintings showcase these prairie gems. Though I still call South Dakota home, I have a great love for travel and I have a hard time staying in one place for very long. Much of my art has been inspired by my travels across the American midwest and southwest. In 2013, I spent time working at my cousin's animal rescue organization in California. When I returned to South Dakota, I missed the animals that I'd loved and cared for every day, so I started painting their portraits as a way to remember them. While working at the ranch I took a brief hiatus from painting, and when I picked up my brush again after 8 months away I found that my art had really evolved; my style had changed dramatically from near photorealism to something much more expressive, vivacious and free. These new bold color choices, expressive strokes, and splatters captured the silly personalities of the animals perfectly, and my pet portraits became fan favorites at the art festivals that I attended. I've heard others describe my pet portraits as 'realistic with a hint of caricature'...... It's true; I'm painting reality the way that I see it, and I have a tendency to think in cartoon. I prefer to use acrylic or watercolor. I like acrylics for larger work created in the studio, and I turn to watercolors when I'm traveling or working on smaller pieces. I work from reference photos that I've taken during my trips across the country, and I've amassed a good collection of pet and animal photographs that fans and friends have sent in. I continue to take orders for custom pet portraits at festivals where I sell my work, and online at sketchingspot.com. This book has been years in the making.... I have no shortage of artwork, but it became overwhelming to try to decide what pieces to include. While I initially focused on showcasing acrylic paintings of farm animals and personal pets for this project, I've since branched out to include some watercolors, along with paintings of jungle animals, sea creatures and mountain wildlife..... look for dinosaurs, unicorns and 'Dream Sheep' in Volume II!! A huge 'thank you' to everyone who has offered words of wisdom or been supportive of my artistic endeavors over the years. I wouldn't be where I am today without your encouragement, and I can't wait to see where the next road leads. Thank you for coming along for the ride!
