The 26th EUROCALL conference was organised by the University of Jyväskylä (JYU) Language Campus and specifically the Language Centre. The theme of this year's conference was 'Future-proof CALL: language learning as exploration and encounters', which reflects an attempt to envision language teaching and learning futures in a changing world. What brought researchers together this year are shared concerns in relation to the sustainability of language learning and teaching in technology-rich contexts that are marked by ever-increasing complexity. The collection of short papers in this volume is a very thorough view into the conference proper exhibiting the complexity and novelty of the field of CALL. There are exciting new openings and a more profound exploration of theoretical underpinnings of the contemporary issues in teaching and learning, cross-cultural communication, mobile learning and the like.

This volume gives readers insights on the use of technology in professional development programmes and content knowledge that can enrich teacher education. Every chapter of the book builds, through research, an analysis and discussion of CALL matters and professional development. The purpose of the EuroCALL Teacher Education SIG's edited volume, supported by the Language Centre of the Cyprus University of Technology, is to respond to the needs of language educators, teacher trainers and training course designers through relevant research studies that provide technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge. The book concentrates on professional development in CALL, the use of technology in primary, secondary, and tertiary education, e-learning facilitators, the integration of personal learning environments, the use of MALL, the applications of virtual reality, materials design, the use of ICT in task-based language teaching, and the integration of social media networks in language education.

The second volume in this series of papers dedicated to innovative language teaching and learning at university focuses on enhancing employability. Throughout the book, which includes a selection of 14 peer-reviewed and edited short papers, authors share good practices drawing on research; reflect on their experience to promote student engagement, inclusivity, and collaboration; and foster a successful learning environment while developing employability skills. Whatever the language - or the subject we teach - there are a number of skills, behaviours, attributes and attitudes which staff and students should be aware of in order to enhance teaching and learning so as to maximise student potential and their employability prospects.

The 23rd EUROCALL conference was organised by the Cyprus University of Technology Language Centre. The theme of the conference was "CALL communities and Culture". Between the 24th and 27th August 2016, over 135 presentations were delivered and 27 posters were presented; 84 of these presentations appear in this volume of selected peer-reviewed short papers.

This collection of papers, consisting of 39 delegate contributions and three keynote articles from "New directions in telecollaborative research and practice: the second conference on telecollaboration in higher education" hosted by Trinity College Dublin in April 2016, offers a window on a rapidly evolving form of learning. Telecollaboration is used in many formats and contexts, but has as a defining feature the ability to unite learners from classrooms around the world in meaningful computer-mediated tasks and activities. This cross-disciplinary overview discusses telecollaboration in support of language and culture, teacher training, student mobility, and other disciplines and skills from a range of analytical perspectives. It will be of interest to anyone working in HE as an educator, researcher, educational designer, mobility officer, decision maker or administrator.

This trilingual (English, Catalan or Spanish) handbook provides concise explanations of key methodologies and concepts for qualitative research in plurilingual educational settings, along with clear examples of useful resources and strategies. It is aimed at both novice and more expert researchers.

In this collective volume, we seek to bridge gaps between research and practice in the teaching and learning of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) with a set of strong research-based contributions drawing on a wide range of ESP contexts. It offers new theoretical and pedagogical insights for ESP practitioners and researchers alike, going beyond descriptions of ESP situations and programmes to bring in sound research design and data analysis which are firmly anchored in previous ESP research. The nine papers in this collection cover a variety of ESP domains, from medicine, technical science, and engineering to social sciences and the humanities, in order to encapsulate current trends and new developments in ESP teaching and learning research in Europe.

With the rise of the internet and new communication technologies, language learning has moved beyond the classroom walls. This volume presents a range of important studies on innovative ways for learning languages outside the classroom. Chapters discuss MOOCs in the UK, Belgium, China, and Italy for studying a range of languages, research on new apps, flipped classroom modes, and approaches to informal learning in a range of international settings. In these ways, the volume offers a significant contribution to our understanding of how learning beyond the language classroom will transform language education in the decades to come.

This volume offers a comprehensive, up-to-date, empirical and methodological view over the new scenarios and environments for language teaching and learning recently emerged (e.g. blended learning, e-learning, ubiquitous learning, social learning, autonomous learning or lifelong learning), and also over some of the new approaches to language teaching and/or research that can support them (usually by applying ICT), such as Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL), Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), or Language Massive Open Online Courses (LMOOCs). A must-read for those undertaking language teaching for the first time or willing to try new perspectives and methods in their courses.

Languages sit firmly in the skill-set of the 21st-century graduate. In an increasingly multicultural and multilingual job market, monolingual graduates are at a disadvantage: as the recent Born Global report (2016) notes, 'multilingualism has now become the new normal'. The contributions in this collection are imbued with this idea and they demonstrate clearly and practically how languages are an aid to global communication. The aim of this book is to provide a space to bring together expertise and good academic practice for the benefit of educators and academic audiences. We therefore hope that the contributions in this collection will continue to inspire practitioners in the education sectors to embed employability skills into their curricula of studies, from as early as secondary school into higher education.

The School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies at the University of Nottingham hosted the fifth annual conference in the "Innovative Language Teaching at University" series. Under the heading "Enhancing participation and collaboration" the conference, organised by Cecilia Goria, Oranna Speicher and Sascha Stollhans, took place on 19 June 2015, and was attended by over 120 linguists, language teachers and language acquisition researchers from all over the world. This edited volume contains 15 selected short papers based on presentations from the conference as well as Dr Jan Hardman's keynote address and a foreword by Prof. Zoltán Dörnyei.

The theme of the conference this year was Critical CALL, drawing inspiration from the work carried out in the broader field of Critical Applied Linguistics. The term 'critical' has many possible interpretations, and as Pennycook (2001) outlines, has many concerns. It was from these that we decided on the conference theme, in particular the notion that we should question the assumptions that lie at the basis of our praxis, ideas that have become 'naturalized' and are not called into question. Over 200 presentations were delivered in 68 different sessions, both in English and Italian, on topics related specifically to the theme and also more general CALL topics. 94 of these were submitted as extended papers and appear in this volume of proceedings.

Voices of Pedagogical Development is a collection of articles written by teacher-researchers at the University of Jyväskylä Language Centre. It shares the fruits of their ideas and development work in the areas of academic literacies, new forms of teaching and learning, and internationalisation. Part one aims at establishing and expanding perspectives on the multilayered and multivoiced reality of pedagogical development in higher education. Part two looks at how practices can be enhanced by engaging teachers, students and other cooperating partners in reflection and development. Part three focuses on exploring perceptions of language, language learning, and literature. As a whole, the collection represents a spectrum of approaches and shows the various stages of pedagogical thinking and perception. It provides insights into pedagogical development in higher education language teaching through an examination of policies, perceptions, and practices.

This book celebrates the 10th anniversary of the elearning symposium run by the Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies, based at the University of Southampton, UK. With contributions from practitioners working in universities across the UK and the world, it includes case studies and reflective pieces which showcase good practice in the use of technology for language teaching and learning. This edited collection forms a snapshot of the innovative ideas and approaches which are animating language teaching in Higher Education today.

The 2014 EUROCALL Conference was held from the 20th to the 23rd of August at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.

The book commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the Internet in March 2014 and celebrates the achievements and benefits while also pointing out the limitations and perils of the Internet. Edited by Dr Jonathan James of Edith Cowan University in Australia, the book identifies the broad characteristics of the Internet age, and includes several studies that outline the educational benefits of the Internet and social media platforms like Facebook which connect families in the diaspora. The Internet and the Google Age also looks at the place of faith and religion on the Internet. It describes how life in our digital world is both exciting and challenging. An excellent introduction to Internet Studies, the book predicts that life will become more and more digitalized and how the current demarcation between private and public spheres, home and office, human and non humans (robots) will become less and less apparent as the Internet becomes more interwoven into our lives.

EUROCALL 2013's theme was 20 Years of EUROCALL: Learning from the Past, Looking to the Future. The conference seeked to establish an overview of EUROCALL's twentieth anniversary. As a professional organization, EUROCALL has been aiming, along its 20 years of existence, to promote innovative research, development and practice in the area of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL) in education and training. During 20 years the organization has brought together educators, researchers, PhD students, administrators, designers of software and language learning systems, government representatives, equipment and software suppliers and other professionals involved in CALL and TELL.
