My Choices Were Limited. I grew up in rural East Texas. Our region is called "The Big Thicket". It is even more bio diverse than the Amazon Basin. The East Fork of The San Jacinto River crossed our property. There only seemed to be a few choices for work: be a logger, work as a driller in the oilfield, do carpentry, or be in oilfield construction. The old ways were passing quickly. Gus "Paw Paw" Burton was a cattle rancher. Frederick "Papa Blum", my maternal grandfather, trapped fur. Nothing in me wanted to do any of that sort of work. Even when I was young I remember standing on the river bridge. As I looked at the waters flowing below I dreamed of a life in writing or ministry. The flow seemed to speak to me there are more options than we routinely see around us. If this describes you, find your own river. Deliberately ponder the plan of God for your life. Stand quietly and look at the flow as you think big thoughts. Consider the general principles in this book as you think of Living Your Desired Life. Life contains changes. My life has been no exception. Much of this writing was done as a Pastor. Today I find myself involved in foreign missions. The commonality of this and my ministry in the U.S. is The Word. The Word of God is central to everything I have done and everything I will ever do on planet earth. Please allow the simple truth of these exhortations to encourage your emotional life, stir your faith, and renew your energy. Much better days lie ahead. Believe and say aloud that truth.
