First heard with the opera's premiere on August 3, 1829 in Paris' Theatre de l'Academie Royale de Musique, Rossini's classic overture has been popular ever since even though the opera itself is only rarely performed today. Despite its tremendous popularity, this overture has not been treated very well by publishers over the decades. Part of the problem stems from the composer's own manuscripts which were the product of rapid composing under pressure from opera houses. Many things which were simply assumed by performers of the era from their first appearance and applied to analogous passages weren't by those of later eras. This new study score is a licensed reprint of the superb performing edition prepared by Clark McAlister using the pseudonym Howard K. Wolf in 2014 and published by the now defunct firm E.F. Kalmus. The large score and orchestral parts are now exclusively available from Serenissima Music.

Weber's final and only opera in English was a rousing success at its London premiere, with performances following throughout Europe and in America. The composer was dissatisfied with the structure of the the work after its first hearing and planed to revise the opera upon his return to Germany. The planned revision was never started due to his premature death less than two months later thanks failing health made worse by a grueling schedule. As with Weber's other opera overtures the music highlights his best music from the opera and showcases his brilliant style. This new edition prepared by Richard W. Sargeant, Jr. has been meticulously researched to bring Weber's final masterpiece for the enjoyment of professionals and amateurs alike.

Weber completed the opera in 1820 which was premiered the following year with international success. Long regarded as the first German nationalist opera and the first German Romantic opera for its patriotism and stark emotion. His musical portrayal of the supernatural is both scary and gruesome which inspired many young composers of the then new Romantic school including Richard Wagner and Hector Berlioz. The overture - which has been a concert favorite since the premiere - is presented here in a newly engraved edition by Richard W. Sargeant. Widely considered a grand, heroic, romantic opera and one of Weber's finest, Euryanthe is unfortunately rarely performed because of its weak libretto and plot's implausibilty. Such defects don't apply to instrumental works thankfully, and the overture - which contains some of the best music in the opera - has become a worldwide concert favorite. As with Weber's other opera overtures the themes are closely linked to the opera and perfectly capture the mood and tone of the entire work. This newly engraved edition by Richard W. Easily the most popular of the collection of overtures produced by Suppe for this operettas, the one for the 1866 Die Leichte Kavallerie entered the concert repertoire soon after its premiere. The study score offered here is a thoroughly-researched and beautifully engraved new edition prepared by conductor Clark McAlister. Besides the convenient format study score offered here, McAlister's excellent edition is also available as a large condcutor score and orchestral parts.

Strauss' Morgenblätter is an interesting example of a a work composed as a kind of 'response' to that of another composer. Jacques Offenbach, a French composer whose work served as competition for Strauss' own in Vienna, was commissioned to provide a new waltz by the Vienna Authors' and Journalists' Association to be performed at the January 12, 1864 'Concordia Ball'. This work was promptly nicknamed Abendblätter by the journalists and Stauss, whose orchestra was performing the concert was likewise asked for a new work for the event. Strauss cleverly left the title of the new work to the Association, who naturally selected Morgenblätter. The Strauss work was one of his best, and remains popular to this day. This new study score is a reduced-sized reissue of the newly engraved performing edition prepared by Clark McAlister previously issued by the defunct American publisher E.F. Kalmus. Started in 1867 and first conceived of as an oratorio, Camille Saint-Saëns completed his most famous opera Samson et Dalila in 1877 with the encouragement of Franz Liszt. It was Liszt who arranged to have the opera staged in Weimar. The story focuses around Dalila and her seduction of Samson to learn the secret of his strength. She is portrayed as a manipulative women bent on revenge. The Bacchanale, known more as a concert piece, is in act 3 and depicts the Priests of the temple in a wild savage dance after the capture of Samson. This new beautifully engraved score by Richard W. Suppe's operetta Dichter und Bauer (Poet and Peasant) was the first to earn him a reputation as a composer in Vienna. His reputation as a conductor was established two years before at the Theater in der Josefstadt, where he composed incidental music to the play Ein Morgen, ein Mittag, und ein Abend in Wien, whose overture remains in the orchestral repertoire to this day. By the premiere of Dichter und Bauer, at the Theater an der Wien on August 24, 1846, Suppe was no longer conducting for free. The operetta was successful and the overture entered the orchestral repertoire soon after. The opening cello solo was even quoted in the American song published in 1894 - "I've been Working on the Railroad".
