In this book, various aspects of cognitive and emotional behaviour is described. In chapter one, a state of the art introduction to VH is presented and the associated research is given. In Chapter 2, cognitive and emotions processes are described. A Comprehensive context model for multi-party interactions with the VH is given in the next chapter. Finally, it is very important to model the socializing of groups of virtual humans. This is discussed in Chapter 4. The automatic modelling of expressions for VH is described in Chapter 5. The last chapter gives a case study of an intelligent kios avatar and its usability.This book gives examples of some advances that enable VH to behave intelligently. It provides an overview of these research problems and some unsolved problems.

Negotiation mechanisms have been studied widely in the ?eld of multi-agent systems. They possess a variety of features that enable agents be negotiate with each other even in open environments. However, mainly because of l- ited computational power, there are several assumptions that traditionally limit the degree of openness. Recent studies have tended to focus on c- pletely open and highly uncertain environments that apply agent systems to the real world. For example, in emergency rescue domains, we cannot expect to know when and where a ?re starts and when humans are likely to be - jured. Also, in Internet auctions, there can be shill bids since there are many unauthenticated participants. Nowadays, we can employ machines with large computational power to compute an optimal way for agents to negotiate, even incompletelyopenandhighlyuncertainenvironments. Forthepracticaluseof multi-agent systems in the real world, the reliability of each agent's behavior is essentially required. Concretely, agents must obtain the most appropriate solution/solutions based on rational, robust, and secure negotiation among multiple agents even if the environment is intractable. We solicit papers on all aspects of such negotiation mechanisms in multi-agent systems, including multi-issue negotiations, concurrent negotiations, strategy-proof mechanisms, rational argumentation, auctions and voting, and so on. These issues are - ing explored by researchers from di?erent communities in multi-agent s- tems. They are, for instance, being studied in agent negotiation, multi-issue negotiations, auctions, mechanism design, electronic commerce, voting, - cure protocols, matchmaking and brokering, argumentation, and co-operation mechanisms.

Considering the stupendous gain in importance, in the banking and insurance industries since the early 1990¿s, of mathematical methodology, especially probabilistic methodology, it was a very natural idea for the French "Académie des Sciences" to propose a series of public lectures, accessible to an educated audience, to promote a wider understanding for some of the fundamental ideas, techniques and new tools of the financial industries.These lectures were given at the "Académie des Sciences" in Paris by internationally renowned experts in mathematical finance, and later written up for this volume which develops, in simple yet rigorous terms, some challenging topics such as risk measures, the notion of arbitrage, dynamic models involving fundamental stochastic processes like Brownian motion and Lévy processes.The Ariadne¿s thread leads the reader from Louis Bachelier¿s thesis 1900 to the famous Black-Scholes formula of 1973 and to most recent work close to Malliavin¿s stochastic calculus of variations. The book also features a description of the trainings of French financial analysts which will help them to become experts in these fast evolving mathematical techniques.

Colloids are known to be the often neglected phase for the transport of pollutants in aquatic ecosystems. The book covers the basics of abiotic colloid characterization, of biocolloids and biofilms, the resulting transport phenomena and their engineering aspects. The subject is presented from an international group of leading specialists devoted to colloidal sciences. The contributions include theoretical considerations, results from model experiments as well as field studies. The information given will serve students and scientists interested in the analytical, chemical, microbiological, geological and hydrological aspects of material transport in aquatic systems and soils.

Ten years after the ?rst ESO Workshop on light elements, and ?ve years after the IAU in conference in Natal (Brazil) on the same subject, we felt that it was time to have a new conference on this topic: a wealth of new observational data have become available from the 8-meter telescopes and in particular from the VLT, and, at the same time, in the last years new theoretical roads have also been inaugurated in the interpretation of the stellar data. It soon became clear, on the other hand, that in order to understand the evolution of the fragile Li and Be in stars and in the Galaxy, the whole problem of internal mixing in stars must be addressed and understood ?rst, and therefore a large number of elements must be investigated, in many di?erent environments. Adding to this general context the fact that the FLAMES facility at the VLT was o?ered to the community one year earlier, and that it was starting to produceanimpressivewealthofabundancedataofstarsintheGalaxyandinour neighborhoods, the broad concept of the ESO-Arcetri workshop on "e;Chemical Abundances and Mixing in Stars in the Milky Way and its Satellites"e; was built. The location had to be in our beloved Toscana, and Castiglione della Pescaia was immediately identi?ed as an ideal place. To achieve from this initial proposal a full conference, which gathered - gether from September 13 to 17 more than 150 attendees in a smooth orga- zation, was possible only due to the dedicated work of the conference SOC (J.

The exciting experiments of the BABAR and BELLE collaborations have now proven violation of CP symmetry in the neutral B system. This has renewed strong interest in the physics of CP violation. Novel experimental techniques and new highly intense neutron sources are now becoming available to further test the related time reversal symmetry. They will substantially lower the current limit on the neutron electric dipole moment and hence open up new tests of theoretical concepts beyond the Standard Model. These are strongly required to explain the decisive excess of matter versus antimatter in our Universe. There is a de?nite need to communicate these exciting developments to younger scientists, and therefore we organized a summer school in October 2000 on "e;CP Violation and Related Topics"e;, which was held in Prerow, a small Baltic Sea resort. These Lecture Notes were inspired by the vivid - terest of the participants, and I am grateful to the authors, who faced the unexpected and delivered all the material for an up-to-date introduction to this broad ?eld. It has been suggested that the big questions of science are answered ¿ that science has entered a ¿twilight age¿ where all the important knowledge is known and only the details need mopping up. And yet, the unprecedented progress in science and technology in the twentieth century has raised qu- tions that weren¿t conceived of a century ago. This book argues that, far from being nearlycomplete, the storyof sciencehas many morechapters,yet unwritten. With the perspective of the century¿s advance, it¿s as if we have climbed a mountain and can see just how much broader the story is. Instead of asking how an apple falls from a tree, as Isaac Newton did in the17thcentury,wecannowask:Whatisthefundamentalnatureofanapple (matter)? How does an apple (biological organism) form and grow? Whence came the breeze that blew it loose (meteorology)? What in a physical sense (synaptic ?rings) was the idea that Newton had, and how did it form? A new approach to science that can answer such questions has sprung up in the past 30 years. This approach ¿ known as nonlinear science¿ismore than a new ?eld. Put simply, it is the recognition that throughout nature, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Unexpected things happen.
