This volume contains the papers presented at the 13th Annual Conference on Algorithmic Learning Theory (ALT 2002), which was held in Lub * eck (Germany) during November 24-26, 2002. The main objective of the conference was to p- vide an interdisciplinary forum discussing the theoretical foundations of machine learning as well as their relevance to practical applications. The conference was colocated with the Fifth International Conference on Discovery Science (DS 2002). The volume includes 26 technical contributions which were selected by the program committee from 49 submissions. It also contains the ALT 2002 invited talks presented by Susumu Hayashi (Kobe University, Japan) on "e;Mathematics Based on Learning"e;, by John Shawe-Taylor (Royal Holloway University of L- don, UK) on "e;On the Eigenspectrum of the Gram Matrix and Its Relationship to the Operator Eigenspectrum"e;, and by Ian H. Witten (University of Waikato, New Zealand) on "e;Learning Structure from Sequences, with Applications in a Digital Library"e; (joint invited talk with DS 2002). Furthermore, this volume - cludes abstracts of the invited talks for DS 2002 presented by Gerhard Widmer (Austrian Research Institute for Arti?cial Intelligence, Vienna) on "e;In Search of the Horowitz Factor: Interim Report on a Musical Discovery Project"e; and by Rudolf Kruse (University of Magdeburg, Germany) on "e;Data Mining with Graphical Models"e;. The complete versions of these papers are published in the DS 2002 proceedings (Lecture Notes in Arti?cial Intelligence, Vol. 2534). ALT has been awarding the E.

  • - 16th Brazilian Symposium on Artificial Intelligence, SBIA 2002, Porto de Galinhas/Recife, Brazil, November 11-14, 2002, Proceedings
    von Guilherme Bittencourt
    50,00 €

The biennial Brazilian Symposium on Arti?cial Intelligence (SBIA 2002) - of which this is the 16th event - is a meeting and discussion forum for arti?cial intelligence researchers and practitioners worldwide. SBIA is the leading c- ference in Brazil for the presentation of research and applications in arti?cial intelligence. The ?rst SBIA was held in 1984, and since 1995 it has been an international conference, with papers written in English and an international program committee, which this year was composed of 45 researchers from 13 countries. SBIA 2002 was held in conjunction with the VII Brazilian Symposium on Neural Networks (SBRN 2002). SBRN 2002 focuses on neural networks and on other models of computational intelligence. SBIA 2002, supported by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), was held in Porto de Galinhas/Recife, Brazil, 11-14 November 2002. The call for papers was very successful, resulting in 146 papers submitted from 18 countries. A total of 39 papers were accepted for publication in the proceedings. We would like to thank the SBIA 2002 sponsoring organizations, CNPq, Capes, and CESAR, and also all the authors who submitted papers. In particular, we would like to thank the program committee members and the additional referees for the di?cult task of reviewing and commenting on the submitted papers.

  • - 14th International Conference on Conceptual Structures, ICCS 2006, Aalborg, Denmark, July 16-21, 2006, Proceedings
    von Henrik Schärfe
    74,00 €

th The 14 International Conference on Conceptual Structures (ICCS 2006) was held in Aalborg, Denmark during July 16 - 21, 2006. Responding to the Call for Papers, we received 62 papers from 20 different countries, representing six different continents. This clearly indicates the international nature of the ICCS community as well as the widespread interest which was spawned by the previous conferences. By a thorough review process, 24 papers were selected to be included in this volume. In addition, six invited speakers made contributions which can be found in the first section of this volume. The theme of ICCS 2006--Conceptual Structures: Inspiration and Application-- points to a dual focus of interest that is also reflected in the constellation of papers. From the beginning of the planning of this conference, we focused on inspirational sources that have led to the current state of research in our community, by tracing important historical influences which daily effect work in representing knowledge and in handling representations of conceptual structures. At the same time, we also focused on ways in which these legacies are employed to further advance theory and practice in the field of knowledge representation and processing. With this volume, we believe that a valuable contribution to both aspects of this field is being made. We wish to express our appreciation to all the authors of submitted papers, to the members of the Editorial Board and the Program Committee for all their work and valuable comments.
