This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the second International Workshop on the Theory and Applications of Formal Argumentation, TAFA 2013, held in Beijing, China, in August 2013. The Workshop was co-located with IJCAI 2013. The 15 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 22 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections such as abstract argumentation frameworks, social abstract argumentation with votes on attacks, a normal form of argumentation frameworks, assumption-based argumentation, argument schemes for normative practical reasoning.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th Theory of Cryptography Conference, TCC 2014, held in San Diego, CA, USA, in February 2014. The 30 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 90 submissions. The 12 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 51 submissions. The papers cover a wide range of topics in the following areas: experimentation and data access; data management; network algorithms and protocols; and physical layer and hardware aspects.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Colloquium on Structural Information and Communication Complexity, SIROCCO 2012, held in Reykjavik, Iceland for 3 days starting June 30, 2012. The 28 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 54 submissions. SIROCCO is devoted to the study of communication and knowledge in distributed systems. Special emphasis is given to innovative approaches and fundamental understanding, in addition to efforts to optimize current designs. The typical areas include distributed computing, communication networks, game theory, parallel computing, social networks, mobile computing (including autonomous robots), peer to peer systems, communication complexity, fault tolerant graph theories, and randomized/probabilistic issues in networks.

This Briefs volume describes the properties and structure of  elementary excitations in isotope low-dimensional structures. Without assuming prior knowledge of quantum physics, the present book provides the basic knowledge needed to understand the recent developments in the sub-disciplines of nanoscience isotopetronics, novel device concepts and materials for nanotechnology. It is the first and comprehensive interdisciplinary account of the newly developed scientific discipline isotopetronics.

As usual, some of the contributions to this 44th Séminaire de Probabilités were presented during the Journées de Probabilités held in Dijon in June 2010. The remainder were spontaneous submissions or were solicited by the editors. The traditional and historical themes of the Séminaire are covered, such as stochastic calculus, local times and excursions, and martingales. Some subjects already touched on in the previous volumes are still here: free probability, rough paths, limit theorems for general processes (here fractional Brownian motion and polymers), and large deviations.Lastly, this volume explores new topics, including variable length Markov chains and peacocks. We hope that the whole volume is a good sample of the main streams of current research on probability and stochastic processes, in particular those active in France.

This Festschrift volume, published in honor of Brian Randell on the occasion of his 75th birthday, contains a total of 37 refereed contributions. Two biographical papers are followed by the six invited papers that were presented at the conference 'Dependable and Historic Computing: The Randell Tales', held during April 7-8, 2011 at Newcastle University, UK. The remaining contributions are authored by former scientific colleagues of Brian Randell.The papers focus on the core of Brian Randell's work: the development of computing science and the study of its history. Moreover, his wider interests are reflected and so the collection comprises papers on software engineering, storage fragmentation, computer architecture, programming languages and dependability. There is even a paper that echoes Randell's love of maps.After an early career with English Electric and then with IBM in New York and California, Brian Randell joined Newcastle University. His main research has been on dependable computing in all its forms, especially reliability, safety and security aspects, and he has led several major European collaborative projects.

This three-volume set LNAI 6911, LNAI 6912, and LNAI 6913 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the European conference on Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery in Databases: ECML PKDD 2011, held in Athens, Greece, in September 2011.The 121 revised full papers presented together with 10 invited talks and 11 demos in the three volumes, were carefully reviewed and selected from about 600 paper submissions. Collaborative Networks for a Sustainable World Aiming to reach a sustainable world calls for a wider collaboration among multiple stakeholders from different origins, as the changes needed for sustainability exceed the capacity and capability of any individual actor. In recent years there has been a growing awareness both in the political sphere and in civil society including the bu- ness sectors, on the importance of sustainability. Therefore, this is an important and timely research issue, not only in terms of systems design but also as an effort to b- row and integrate contributions from different disciplines when designing and/or g- erning those systems. The discipline of collaborative networks especially, which has already emerged in many application sectors, shall play a key role in the implemen- tion of effective sustainability strategies. The present book contains the proceedings of two conferences held at the World Computer Congress 2010 in Brisbane, Australia (September 20-23) organised by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). In the first part, the reader can find the proceedings of the 9th Human Choice and Computers International C- ference (HCC9) organised by the IFIP Technical Committee TC9 on the Relationship Between ICT and Society. The HCC9 part is subdivided into four tracks: Ethics and ICT Governance, Virtual Technologies and Social Shaping, Surveillance and Privacy, and ICT and Sustainable Development. The second part consists of papers given at the Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Conference (CIP) organized by the IFIP Technical Committee TC11 on Security and Privacy Protection in Information Processing Systems. The two parts of the book are introduced by the respective Conference Chairs. Chapter 1 introduces HCC9, providing a short summary of the HCC conference series, which started in 1974, and explaining the overview of HCC9, detailing the rationale behind each of the tracks in this conference. The details related to the papers of each track are discussed by the Track Chairs in the respective introductions to the specific tracks of HCC9 (Chaps. 2, 10, 16 and 22). The International Conference on Intelligent Computing (ICIC) was formed to provide an annual forum dedicated to the emerging and challenging topics in artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics, and computational biology, etc. It aims to bring - gether researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry to share ideas, problems, and solutions related to the multifaceted aspects of intelligent computing. ICIC 2009, held in Ulsan, Korea, September 16-19, 2009, constituted the 5th - ternational Conference on Intelligent Computing. It built upon the success of ICIC 2008, ICIC 2007, ICIC 2006, and ICIC 2005 held in Shanghai, Qingdao, Kunming, and Hefei, China, 2008, 2007, 2006, and 2005, respectively. This year, the conference concentrated mainly on the theories and methodologies as well as the emerging applications of intelligent computing. Its aim was to unify the p- ture of contemporary intelligent computing techniques as an integral concept that hi- lights the trends in advanced computational intelligence and bridges theoretical research with applications. Therefore, the theme for this conference was ¿Emerging Intelligent Computing Technology and Applications.¿ Papers focusing on this theme were solicited, addressing theories, methodologies, and applications in science and technology.
