    54,99 €

  • - Unterrichtsmethoden Fur Die Gestaltung Von Wahrnehmungsprozessen
    von Peter Jenny
    49,99 €

st Since the beginning of the 21 century, three key business trends have been identified with a pronounced influence on future microeconomic and macroeconomic developments across the globe: Firstly, with the advent of the network economy, int- organizational relations and structures are increasingly becoming the object of analysis. Successful companies have extended the concept of an appropriate organizational structure beyond internal relationships to those spanning across the entire business network by taking the country specific institutional context into consideration. Secondly, with slowing growth in the developed markets and abundant growth opportunities in the developing economies, companies are turning to these markets for new business expansion. Finally, during the last number of years, so called ¿emerging giants¿, which are strong local players from developing economies, have started to globalize and to expand into the developed markets. Among other reasons, these firms have edged themselves into the limelight by maintaining the right fit between their strategy type and inter-organizational structures in their home markets.

  • von Marcus Heidmann

Foreword rtation thesis is the insight that man- ers need to identify and understand strategic issues in order for their companies to s- cessfully cope with strategic change. Information from management accounting s- tems (MAS) can be helpful in this process fined as formal s- tems that provide information from the internal as well as the external environment. Consequently, the desire to better understand the role of these systems in the process of strategic sensemaking comes to mind. It is even intensified when considering the impression from management accounting practice that the tool box pecially the traditional one, us sensemaking. Due to the explorative nature of the research questions, and the objective of studying strategic sensemaking in its natural setting, the empirical approach of this dissertation is based on a multiple-case study design und generates an array of interesting findings. Heidmann shows, for example, that managers do not primarily use MAS to identify or implicitly assumed in most studies on st- tegic sensemaking: instead, they use management accounting systems to search for - ditional information that help them to make sense of these issues. In addition, the study at hand underlines the relevance of communication several times. This is true for the communication processes in the context of adaptation and preparation of management accounting systems as well as for their actual use.

  • von Daniel Kauer
    96,00 €

Daniel Kauer studies the effects of managerial experiences on the strategic sensemaking of top management teams. He shows that it is very important to distinguish between the depth and breadth of managerial experience, as these discrete dimensions have different effects on strategic sensemaking on the individual as well as on the organizational level. While diversity represents a team¿s potential to be successful in strategic sensemaking, the team must realize this potential through effective interaction. Therefore, the author also analyzes decisive interaction factors and describes how teams can best leverage their members¿ experience.

Sociologists face difficult tasks at the turn of the century. Sociology needs conceptual breakthroughs in order to keep pace with accelerated social change. Global trends require new visions about social action and social or der. Evolving patterns of regionalisation and specific developmental paths of societies demand careful elaboration on relationships between local, regional and global processes. Deepening social differences and efforts to re-integrate social structures foster comparative research. The growing complexity of networks involving individuals, groups, organisations and societies calls for interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary studies. They have to respond to widespread expectations for policy orientation and practical relevance of so ciological research. Together with the spread of ideas and practices of sus tainable development, there is an increasing pressure on sociology to incor porate closer links to nature and technology in its conceptualisations and to strengthen their normative content. There is evidence to suggest that the international sociological commu nity has difficulties in coping with the complexity and urgency of the above tasks. Narratives often overshadow analysis and explanations in sociological discourse as well as debates on current social processes. Sturlies and teach ings in the field of sociological theory have turned into a self-satisfactory enterprise, receiving its inspiration from the classics of the discipline and much less from the burning social problems surrounding us. Empirical stud ies, having only symbolic connection to sociological concepts or to the need of practical solutions, are abundant.

Revenue management has been successfully applied to service-oriented industries for a long time. In the more recent past, besides these classical application areas, it has been introduced to other production and logistics processes as well. For the automobile industry so far, only a few revenue managementmodels have been developed but practically none for its used car sector. Being a sector with suitable prerequisites and a low pro?t margin, this is a promising application area for price-based revenue management. As used cars are ¿individual¿ and ¿durable¿ goods ¿ unlike seat or room bookings ¿, a different approach is necessary with ¿dynamic pricing¿ as the main control strategy. A somewhat similar problem can only be found in the real estate sector. Thus, a conceptual framework of an appropriate revenue management model based on dynamic pricing must be developed. Using current and historical m- ket data, the price-responsefunctionhas to be estimated which then can serve as the basis for determining the optimal dynamic pricing strategy. For two central components of this framework, optimization and estimation, - novative approaches are proposed. Based on results from Control Theory, different possible models are suggested and extensively evaluated. Finally, a stochastic discrete-time model is identi?ed as themost appropriate.Withthis, it is possible todevelopiterativealgorithmsto det- mine the optimal pricing strategy even for problems without closed-form solution.

  • - Issues and Options for Reform with Regard to the Status Quo and the Proposals at the Level of the European Union
    von Christiane Malke
    82,00 €

Foreword In 2004 the first legal entity applicable in all EU member states, the so-called European Company or Societas Europaea (SE), was introduced in order to strengthen the compe- tiveness of European companies and improve the functioning of the internal market. In - der for the SE to be an alternative to existing legal forms, the establishment as well as the transfer of seat should not result in tax consequences. However, despite the rules provided by the Merger Directive, the taxation of hidden reserves is still a major concern for c- panies that want to reorganize themselves cross-border. As a consequence, a need for f- ther research covering aperiodic transactions existed. The doctoral thesis of Ms. Malke provides a comprehensive contribution to fulfill this need. Ms. Malke has assessed the tax treatment of SEs at the time of establishment and - structuring based on economic and legal criteria. This is provided for all 27 EU member states. In addition, she has competently analyzed the existing literature on the subject at hand. The special merit of the doctoral thesis of Ms. Malke consists in developing reform proposals for different addressees and different levels of harmonization in the EU. More in detail, the relevant tax rules for SEs at the time of establishment and restructuring are worked out and presented in a systematic way for the 27 EU member states. Based on this, existing deficiencies are shown and solutions are elaborated in a comprehensive manner.

  • - On the Specification and Selection of Software Components and Services
    von Oliver Skroch
    64,00 €

The urge for a better, cheaper, and faster development and tailoring of application software systems can be explained by their high importance: well-working infonnation processing is a required precondition for the prosperity - or even for the mere survival- ofmany businesses and institutions. Hence it is a highly warrantable and topical objective to significantly irnprove software development by new technologies and methods, to increase quality and benefits while at the same time decreasing lifecycle costs and project durations. Where, however, are reasonable starting points for research activities that pursue these objectives? Software reuse and in particular the closely related component- and service-orientation are among the few fundamental approaches that show greatest promise. This book presents six respective research articles. The book is based on my cumulative doctoral thesis and I feel indebted to many people and their support. I thank Prof. Dr. Klaus Turowski in the first place. He enabled my integration as an external researcher at the Chair of Business Informatics and Systems Engineering, Universität Augsburg, and he provided most valuable support in decisive situations. I give my thanks to Prof. De. Robert Klein for the second opinion on my dissertation and to Prof. De. Axel Tuma for presiding the disputation. I am grateful to my co-authors De. Sven Overhage and Michael ProB for the good, successful, and pleasant team work on our research articles.

  • - An Empirical Analysis of Future Key Industries
von Stefan D. Haigner, Stefan Jenewein, Florian Wakolbinger, usw.
    69,00 €

The Creative Industries have recently come into the focus of urban development strategies and economic policy. The driving force behind that was, amongst others, Richard Florida with his bestseller ¿The rise of the creative class and how it¿s tra- forming work, leisure, community, and everyday life¿. The Creative Industries are increasingly dynamic and growing three times faster than the economy in total. With respect to the economic value added, the Creative In- 1 dustries in Germany are absolutely comparable to the automotive industry. Nonetheless, for entrepreneurs it is often still easier to find financing opportu- ties for property, real estate and assets than for ideas and intangible assets. Thus, - vestitionsbank Berlin has been researching possibilities to finance the Creative Economy since several years. Many who are engaged in spurring the development of cities and regions, h- ever, come across various different definitions of the term ¿Creative Industries¿ and several approaches which cannot be exactly distinguished from one another. This might cause confusion.

    1. 1Motivation Increasingglobalcompetitionandcostpressureforceenterprisesandsupplychains to discover undetected cost-saving potentials. In particular, interfaces to the p- curement market are a promising ?eld for improvement. Recent developments in international trade outline the high in?uence of uncertain deliveries and highly volatile prices on the companies¿ costs. A vital question in research, industry, and politics addresses theoptimal procurement policy of rawmaterialsdue touncertain future prices and is of highest priority for the ?rms¿ success and even the wealth of a nation. Nowadays, commodity markets and commodity derivative markets offer transparent, fast, and ef?cient trade and risk sharing for raw materials and ?nancial products on raw material prices, e. g. , option contracts. This coexistence of op- ational and ?nancial procurement instruments, i. e. , buying opportunities on spot and derivative markets, offers an auspicious chance to optimize the procurement policy in the crucial problem of raw material procurement which is the focus of this thesis. The most basic distinction of commodities is between storable and non-storable commodities (see Pirrong (2008)). The vast majority of commodities is storable, mainly at some costs, but this class is fairly heterogeneous. Commodities can be characterized by seasonality in demand (such as crude oil or natural gas) or production (take wheat or sugar as example) or contrarily by a rather continuous production and consumption (e. g. , nickel and aluminum).

  • - Organizational Techniques for Proactive Divestiture Decision-Making
    von Jan-Hendrik Sewing
    82,00 €

Divestitures are of high managerial relevance at most corporations, independent of the degree of diversification, firm size, age and industry. The reasons for this are multiple: developments in the international M&A market, increasing dynamics in industry markets, capital market pressure, and the emergence of strong new types of investors. Despite their importance, divestiture decisions often seem to be made on a relatively unstructured and irrational basis and lack rigorous management routines, especially when compared to investments. Overall, corporations decide on divestitures either too late or not at all. This means that proceeds from divestitures in later life cycle stages of industry evolution tend to be significantly lower than they might have been. Economic and structural as well as strategic and managerial barriers are major reasons for the delay or even neglect of divestiture decisions. The scientific analysis of divestiture decision-making is in its very early stages. This study is a major step forward in the field. It demonstrates how divestiture decisions can be used as a strategic option to create value when they are approached in a proactive manner. Divestiture decision-making needs to be organized systematically to make this happen; this can be described comprehensively via three dimensions: actors, processes and supporting systems. Using comparative in-depth case analysis, Jan-Hendrik Sewing investigates divestiture decision-making at major international corporations, with a focus on behavioral issues. He derives patterns of decision-making, analyzes contextual factors influencing these patterns and formulates implications for managers.
