This volume explores the concepts of legal power and legal competence in fourteen original, cutting-edge chapters by leading legal theorists. Legal power and legal competence are major topics in jurisprudence, as they concern a range of practices, common to all modern legal systems, that empower individuals to bring about changes in the respective system by changing their own legal position or the legal positions of others. This compilation covers five broad themes. The chapters in the first section address open questions on the meaning of legal power and legal competence, while those in the second tackle problems regarding their normativity. The third section is devoted to specifically exploring the relationship between legal power and constitutive norms. The fourth focuses on the analysis of legal officials and legal offices, while the fifth and final section assesses various theories of legal power and legal competence.

This book details an innovative multi-scalar framework to examine the intersection of spatial levels in shaping social justice issues in education. This Open Access proceedings presents a good overview of the current research landscape of assembly, handling and industrial robotics.The objective of MHI Colloquium is the successful networking at both academic and management level. Thereby, the colloquium focuses an academic exchange at a high level in order to distribute the obtained research results, to determine synergy effects and trends, to connect the actors in person and in conclusion, to strengthen the research field as well as the MHI community. In addition, there is the possibility to become acquatined with the organizing institute. The publication of this volume marks the Ten Year Anniversary of the Postcolonialism and Religions series. In intersectional and interdisciplinary perspectives, the chapters of this book constitute a complex whole: a volume that does justice to the justice-seeking origins of Latin American Liberation Theology, philosophy, and sociology as it emerged in the 1960s-70s and its development to the present. What drives this book is a common spirit and conviction: Liberation Theologies of the Global South remain relevant to the sociocultural and geopolitical contexts of today, which remain ensconced in the dynamics, exclusions, and resistances that gave rise to Liberation Theologies six decades ago. Today we may speak of interculturality, of borderlands, of in-betweenness, in ways that complicate, confirm, affirm, and interrogate the ¿underside of history¿, and the spaces that are marginalized but de-centered centers of liberation struggle ¿ within, alongside, underneath, over-against societal projects that claim and exclude them, and that represent some of the actual challenges and opportunities to liberation.

This monograph presents a comprehensive, self-contained, and novel approach to the Divergence Theorem through five progressive volumes. Its ultimate aim is to develop tools in Real and Harmonic Analysis, of geometric measure theoretic flavor, capable of treating a broad spectrum of boundary value problems formulated in rather general geometric and analytic settings. The text is intended for researchers, graduate students, and industry professionals interested in applications of harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory to complex analysis, scattering, and partial differential equations.Traditionally, the label ¿Calderón-Zygmund theory¿ has been applied to a distinguished body of works primarily pertaining to the mapping properties of singular integral operators on Lebesgue spaces, in various geometric settings. Volume IV amounts to a versatile Calderón-Zygmund theory for singular integral operators of layer potential type in open sets with uniformly rectifiable boundaries, considered on a diverse range of function spaces. This book illuminates a few highly significant events in history in which astronomers have helped keep contacts between astronomers of different states in moments of international political tensions or even crises. The chapters, written by 20 international authors, focus on four periods where astronomers were particularly active in international relations:1. The WWI period, the epoch of the creation of the IAU, in the context of the simultaneous creation of other scientific unions. The book also singles out the important role of A.S. Eddington and his network "e;across forbidden borders"e;.2. The Cold war period and its consequences, when several countries were divided between opposite blocs. "e;The China crisis"e; is told here from different viewpoints by Chinese astronomers, both from the mainland and from Taiwan, in parallel with the evolution of astronomy in South and North Korea. Germany's twisted path in its membership of the IAU, from its admission in 1951 to its reunification in 1991 is shown as another example.3. The book then highlights a third period, when radio astronomers, in particular, were very active in "e;building bridges"e; between East and West. It also tells the history of how the apparently innocuous issue of the "e;lunar nomenclature"e; became extremely sensitive. The part ends on two chapters on Russian robotic missions and lunar surface features as well on the Russian participation in the "e;International Virtual Observatory"e; project.4. The BCI technology finds newer and newer implementations. Year by year, the number of publications in this field grows exponentially. This book attempts to describe the implementation of the brain-computer technology based on both STM32 and Arduino microcontrollers. In addition, the application of BCI technology in the field of intelligent houses, robotic lines as well as in the field of bionic prostheses was presented. One of the chapters of the monograph also discusses the issue of fMRI in the context of the possibility of analyzing images made as part of fMRI through solutions based on machine learning. A practical implementation of the TensorFlow framework was presented. The fMRI technique is also often implemented in BCI solutions. The conducted literature studies show that the technology of BCI is undoubtedly a technology of the future. However, there is a need for continuous development of biomedical signal processing methods in order to obtain the most efficient implementations in the case of non-invasive implementation of BCI technology based on EEG. The further development of BCI technology has a huge impact on the techniques of rehabilitation of people with disabilities. Nowadays, wheelchairs are being constructed, thanks to which a disabled person is physically able to direct his position in a certain direction and at a certain speed. Thanks to BCI, it is also possible to create an individual speech synthesizer, with the help of which a paralyzed person will be able to communicate with the outside world. New limb prostheses that will replace the lost locomotor system in almost one hundred percent are still being developed. Some prostheses are connected to the human nervous system, thanks to which they are able to send feedback to our brain about the shape, hardness and temperature of the object held in the artificial limb.

This volume elucidates the pivotal ethical and legal issues arising from the use of brain organoids for research, therapeutic and enhancement purposes.The function of the human brain is still a mystery. Until recently, only post-mortem tissue was available for a structural examination of the brain. Consequently, the examination results could only reflect the state at the end of life. However, in order to better understand the development and function of the human brain, dynamic and functional investigations of different human brain cells are necessary. This is where brain organoids, artificially grown in vitro miniature brains, provide the opportunity for more flexible research scenarios.At the same time, however, the use of brain organoids in research and therapy raises the question of how these new entities are to be treated from an ethical and legal point of view. Against this background, this volume aims at clarifying the normative implications of the use of brain organoids in research and therapy.  The ethical reflections on the status of brain organoids, informed consent, human-to-animal chimeras and neuro-enhancement are mirrored by corresponding legal analyses. The ethical and legal assessments are preceded by an introduction to the scientific and medical background of the brain organoid technology. A final chapter will be devoted to the issue of whether international harmonization of normative standards for brain organoid research and therapy is feasible and advisable.
