This book and its 2 sister books (Volumes 2 and 3) of the Handbook of Environmental Engineering (HEE) series have been designed to serve as a mini-series covering agricultural and green biotechnologies. It is expected to be of value to advanced undergraduate and graduate students, to designers of sustainable biological resources systems, and to scientists and researchers. The aim of these books is to provide information on treatment and management of agricultural, pharmaceutical and food wastes and to serve as a basis for advanced study or specialized investigation of the theory and analysis of various integrated environmental control and waste recycle systems. Volume 1 covers topics on: treatment and management of livestock wastes; waste treatment in the pharmaceutical biotechnology industry using green environmental technologies; vermicomposting process for treating agricultural and food wastes; the impacts of climate change on agricultural, food, and public utility industries; innovative PACT activated sludge, CAPTOR activated sludge, activated bio-filter, vertical loop reactor, and PHOSTRIP processes; agricultural waste treatment by water hyacinth aquaculture, wetland aquaculture, evapotranspiration, rapid rate land treatment , slow rate land treatment, and subsurface infiltration; production and applications of crude polyhydroxyalkanoate-containing bioplastic from agricultural and food-processing wastes; optimization processes of biodiesel production from pig and neem seeds blend oil using alternative catalysts from waste biomass; making castor oil a promising source for the production of flavor and fragrance through lipase mediated biotransformation; and waste treatment and minimization in baker's yeast industry.

This handbook provides a global overview of the design, implementation and assessment of academic development centers within higher education institutions. This book examines the lived experienes of death penalty defense lawyers and how they created a legal culture of resistance to the death penalty. It argues that an important social component of death penalty abolition in the state of Colorado was due to the efforts of capital defense attorneys. Specifically, it explores how the death penalty defense lawyers created and embraced a legal culture of resistance which compelled the attorneys to fight tenaciously in order to win life sentences for clients that had committed brutal homicides. A legal culture of resistance does not exist in a vacuum. Thwarting Death traces the lived experience of 15 death penalty defense lawyers from when they were kids all the way up through retirement to explain how a legal culture of resistance forms and lawyers operate within it after being established which in turn can have a massive influence on public policy outside of a courtroom; such as creating a social and political environmentconducive to abolishing the death penalty.

The challenges that labour law currently faces are well known. The emergence of new forms of work and the growing importance of technology in the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution are important tests of the resilience of this field of law and its function: regulating the labour market. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important to examine the fundamentals of labour law, especially how subordinate labour is addressed in various countries¿ constitutions, in order to focus the analysis of the new phenomena affecting labour relations on their fundamental frameworks.In this context, this book puts forward an overarching framework that reflects how the Italian, German, French, Portuguese, and Spanish constitutions view labour in terms of both collective and individual relations ¿ particularly the right to collective bargaining, the right to strikes and lock-outs, job security, and the right to remuneration ¿ without losing sight of each Constitution's historical and political context.The aim of this book is therefore to provide an overview of the labour law frameworks in the constitutions of these legal systems and to show, by means of practical examples, how the law concretely implements them. This book focuses on ecosystems and species adaptations in the unique Peruvian Andean-Amazonian region. The presence of the Andes as the backbone is the cause of the huge ecosystem diversity and biodiversity of species that characterize the Andean-Amazonian ecosystems. The complex orography of Peru as results of the Andes presence in its tropical setting favors the occurrence of local climatic features that provide diverse environmental conditions for multiple, unique plant and animal species, many of them endemic to the Andes. The book will introduce the reader to the climatic history and geography of the Peruvian Andes and the Peruvian Natural Areas Protection system focusing on the Manu and Northwest biosphere reserves given their relevant ecological importance as well as the relationship between them and the local population. Important global topics like urbanization, deglaciation and global warming will be analyzed and discussed due to their impact in the Andes-Amazon ecosystems.Finally, the traditional land-use systems, agrobiodiversity and agrodiversity in Peru are present and linked with the climate change adaptations.

This book takes a unique approach to the ethnographic and analytical explorations of ecologies in the making. ¿Service-Dominant logic can be described as a mind-set for a unified understanding of the purpose and nature of organizations, markets and society. A concept that was first introduced by Vargo and Lusch in 2004, S-D logic has generated not just a vast host of journal articles and books but has established an expanding sphere of influence across marketing scholarship.In this book, the author uses a rhetorical approach to investigate the ¿marketing¿ of Service-Dominant logic, asking how the formulation and presentation of the logic aids in its persuasive promotion. This book offers an approach which unites choreographic and spectatorial perspectives, and argues for dance itself¿its materials, its structures¿as a medium of emotional communication. Contemporary dance often seems to contend with issues of understanding, regularly being ¿read¿ in ¿languages¿ which alienate it. Even if emotion seems a significant part of people¿s engagement with dance, its workings are often surrounded by an air of mysticism. Engaging with these issues, this study investigates the experience of emotion in Euro-American contemporary dance theatre. It questions its dependence on the artist¿s personal emotions, and the assumption that it is mediated by representational meaning. Instead, this book proposes that the emotional import of dance emerges from an interplay between perceptual properties and symbolic elements in an embodied affective cognitive experience. This experience includes the background of the spectator as well as the context of work, choreographer, performer(s) and other creative agents.

This book presents case studies to analyse the relationship between sustainability - environmental, social, institutional and economic - and digital innovation.  The respective contributions offer a contextualisation of the main present and future trends concerning these two elements, and present analyses from economic, technical, managerial, and social perspectives alike. This is the first of a three-volume project aimed at providing unique case reports (20 cases per volume) of a large number of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias encountered in clinical practice. The book is focused on the treatment of supraventricular arrhythmias, namely focal atrial tachycardias, typical and atypical AVNRT and accessory pathways (both manifest and concealed). All presented-cases were performed using the CARTO electro-anatomical mapping system, which allows the reader to better understand the arrhythmia features due to the     high number of images provided.A large number of high-quality figures, which represent the core of the authors' work, enrich the contents: all cases are built around suggestive figures acquired during the patients' hospitalization, which clearly illustrate important concepts used in catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias. The figures are not only related to the catheter ablation procedure, but also to the patient history, thus helping the reader to place the invasive treatment of the arrhythmias into clinical context: electrocardiograms, Holter ECGs, signal-averaged ECGs, chest X-Rays, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography images, MRI, CT scans, coronary angiography images are provided when considered relevant, in order to better present the patient's condition.  Short videoclips with activation maps of the atria or the ventricles during the studied arrhythmia complete the information provided.Teaching-oriented, all chapters include questions and answers and key messages at the end of each case. This book examines similarities and differences in 31 European governments' responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic hit Europe in early 2020. It spread across the continent during the Spring while anxious electorates were treated to news reports about health systems under duress and frustrated attempts by public procurement officials to obtain adequate supplies of medical and protective equipment. Over the next 15-18 months considered by this book, national responses exhibited both similarities and profound variations as the different endeavours to regulate social interactions constituted a stress test for political systems across Europe.

This book provides a comprehensive introduction to photoelectron angular distributions and their use in the laboratory to study light-matter interactions. Photoelectron angular distribution measurements are useful because they can shed light on atomic and molecular electronic configurations and system dynamics, as well as provide information about quantum transition amplitudes and relative phases that are not obtainable from other types of measurements. For example, recent measurements of molecular-frame photoelectron angular distributions have been used to extract photoelectron emission delays in the attosecond range which can provide ultra-sensitive maps of molecular potentials. Additionally, photoelectron angular distribution measurements are an essential tool for studying negative ions.Here, the author presents a detailed, yet easily accessible, theoretical background necessary for experimentalists performing photoelectron angular distribution measurements to better understand their results. The various physical influences on photoelectron angular distributions are revealed through analytical models with the use of angular momentum coupling algebra and spherical tensor operators. The classical and quantum treatments of photoelectron angular distributions are covered clearly and systematically, and the book includes, as well, a chapter on relativistic interactions. Furthermore, the primary methods used to measure photoelectron angular distributions in the laboratory, such as photodetachment electron spectroscopy, velocity-map imaging, and cold target recoil ion momentum spectroscopy, are described. This book provides a historical and socio-legal investigation into the prevalence of litigation arising from cursing and interpersonal hostility in the under-explored region of Northwest England during a period of acute socio-economic crisis in the seventeenth century. Contributing to the scholarship of magic and witchcraft, it shows the complex circumstances of the world of healing and harming using customary knowledge such as magic and folk medicine as it is variously presented in the documents of the legal system. While primary sources such as pamphlets have usefully informed numerous witchcraft studies, this book establishes popular belief derived from the depositions, interrogatories and various other manuscripts of the manorial, ecclesiastical and secular courts positioned within a micro historical early modern context.
