This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the XXIInd International Conference on AIxIA 2023 ¿ Advances in Artificial Intelligence, AIxIA 2023, held in Rome, Italy, during November 6¿10, 2023.The 33 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 53 submissions. They were organized in topical sections as follows: Argumentation and Logic Programming, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Hybrid AI and Applications of AI.

The period 2008¿2022 has seen the British state/government embroiled in a number of full-blown crises, each impacting the fundamental operations of the state and demanding, therefore, urgent responses from the government of the day. In the first case, the 2008 near-collapse and partial nationalization of the banking system consequent upon decades of irresponsible credit creation coupled to permissive regulation; in the second , the migration crisis of 2015, which saw waves of refugees moving through Europe, provoking anxious responses from European Union member states and opening-up related political debates in Britain; thus, third , the 2016 referendum in regard to membership of the European Union, which the London-based elite clearly thought they would navigate easily before, to their evident shock, losing, an event itself precipitating further extraordinary Westminster manoeuvring; and then fourth the 2020 Covid- 19 pandemic, met with an initial casualsangfroid before the government, its actions informed by epidemiological modelling, made an abrupt shift to ¿lockdown¿, with dramatic social and economic consequences. To these episodes, whose impacts run down to the present, could be added, fifth, the 2022 disaster in Ukraine where the British state/government has chosen to involve itself by supporting one set of combatants in a conflict where presently, after more than a year of fighting, there is little sign of a means to the resolution of the violence. This book examines the crises and tracks how each developed; how state/ government failings in one case were rehearsed in the next; and, more generally, how these crises have been amplified by the decades-long celebration of globalization theory; and, finally, at how following the most recent crisis the future might unfold, hence the ideas of deglobalization, resilience and, more speculatively, the possibilities of democratization.

This book makes a distinctive and innovative contribution to the study of white-collar and corporate crime through detailed examination of the use, affect, and violation of the corporate social license ¿ a concept frequently extended to a license to operate. Whilst discrete aspects of corporate social responsibility have found their way into the discourse on business deviance and crime, no single book to date has provided a detailed exploration of social licence through a criminological lens. This book argues that literary and historiographical works written by Iberian Christians between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries promoted contradictory representations of Muslims in order to advocate for their colonization through the affirmation of Christian supremacy. Ambivalent depictions of cultural difference are essential for colonizers to promote their own superiority, as explained by postcolonial critics and observed in medieval and early modern texts in Castilian, Catalan, and Portuguese, such as the Cantar de mio Cid, Cantigas de Santa Maria, Llibre dels fets, Estoria de España, Crónica geral de 1344, Tirant lo Blanch, and Os Lusíadas. In all these works, the contradictions of Muslim enemies, allies, and subjects allow Christian leaders to prevail and profit through their opposition and collaboration with them. Such colonial dynamics of simultaneous belligerence and assimilation determined the ways in which Portugal, Spain, and later European powers interacted with non-Christians in Africa, Asia, and even the Americas.

The book presents the most relevant research of the participants of the VII International Conference of Young Scientists "Complex Investigation of the World Ocean" (CIWO-2023). This conference was held at Saint Petersburg State University in May 15-19, 2023 (Saint Petersburg, Russia). The question is how to prevent these opportunities from being abused to commit money laundering and finance terrorism (MLFT).This book explores the current European Union legislation designed to prevent MLFT in connection with the Metaverse. It analyses the legislation in relation to the three traditional stages of MLFT: placement, layering and integration. Furthermore, some additional risks specific to the Metaverse are discussed, such as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and the high level of anonymity. The book concludes that the current legislation is not suitable for facing the new challenges of the Metaverse. In turn, the book putsforward a novel approach to regulating and enforcing MLFT legislation: using a system of smart assets equipped with AI to prevent and detect MLFT. Addressing the theoretical and practical gaps in our knowledge around developing internal and external domains of youth entrepreneurship, the book places particular emphasis on South Africa, but offers insights and implications that can be applied far beyond our borders. This Palgrave Pivot presents the first in-depth study of the pioneering Kansas Blue Sky Act of 1911, the first effort in American financial history to regulate the sale of securities in the US. Though offering a balanced examination of critiques of the legislation as a barrier to individual liberty, interstate commerce, and economic growth, the author challenges the prevailing view of the Kansas Act as a complete anomaly, instead exploring sensitively what ¿blue sky laws¿ can tell us about small-town market values during the nineteenth-century. Drawing on contemporary accounts of rural commerce and popular stereotypes about rural society, the author takes a cultural-historical approach to the politics of regulation and government intervention in the economy. Situating the Blue Sky Act in the broader context of Progressive Era reforms, the author demonstrates how distinctive patterns of commerce and finance in the self-contained, miniature economies of mid-continental rural communities were often at odds with the ¿caveat emptor¿ (buyer beware) standard of American law and commerce in larger markets. Instead the author explores how paternalistic assumptions about individual investment decisions led to the creation of the Act, yet how it was doomed to failure in the context of emerging national stock markets, changing attitudes that regarded stock primarily as a vehicle for trade and the market boom of the 1920s. The book also explores how the initial acceptance of the Kansas model in other states and its later rejection provides a lens through which to examine the fluidity of notions of individual liberty during this period of fast economic and social change. This book provides two new optimization algorithms to address real optimization problems. Optimization is a fundamental concept in engineering and science, and its applications are needed in many fields. From designing products and systems to developing algorithms and models, optimization plays a critical role in achieving efficient and effective solutions to complex problems. Optimization algorithms inspired by nature have proven effective in solving a wide range of problems, including those in engineering, finance, and machine learning. These algorithms are often used when traditional optimization techniques are impractical due to the size or complexity of the problem. In this book, we are presenting two new optimization algorithms inspired by plant roots and the Mycorrhiza Network. The first algorithm is called the Continuous Mycorrhiza Optimization Algorithm (CMOA), which was proposed based on the model of the Continuous Lotka-Volterra System Equations. The second algorithm is called the Discrete Mycorrhiza Optimization Algorithm (DMOA), which design based on the model of Discrete Lotka-Volterra System Equations. By mastering the proposed algorithms, the readers able to develop innovative solutions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and improve performance in the corresponding field of work.

This book provides readers with the basic understanding regarding the threats to the voice processing systems, the state-of-the-art defense methods as well as the current research results on securing voice processing systems.It also introduces three mechanisms to secure the voice processing systems against malicious voice attacks under different scenarios, by utilizing time-domain signal waves, frequency-domain spectrum features, and acoustic physical attributes.First, the authors uncover the modulated replay attack, which uses an inverse filter to compensate for the spectrum distortion caused by the replay attacks to bypass the existing spectrum-based defenses. The authors also provide an effective defense method that utilizes both the time-domain artifacts and frequency-domain distortion to detect the modulated replay attacks. Second, the book introduces a secure automatic speech recognition system for driverless car to defeat adversarial voice command attacks launched from car loudspeakers, smartphones, and passengers. Third, it provides an acoustic compensation system design to reduce the effects from the spectrum reduction attacks, by the audio spectrum compensation and acoustic propagation principle. Finally, the authors conclude with their research effort on defeating the malicious voice attacks and provide insights into more secure voice processing systems.This book is intended for security researchers, computer scientists, and electrical engineers who are interested in the research areas of biometrics, speech signal processing, IoT security, and audio security. This book excavates the rhetorical devices that Nietzsche habitually uses and demonstrates how they circumscribe rather than expand the reader¿s interpretive horizon. Through a sustained analysis of Nietzsche¿s rhetorical style, stratagems, and didactic aims in two of his early works (¿On Truth and Lies in a Non-Moral Sense¿ and Daybreak) and two of his later works (Beyond Good and Evil and Twilight of the Idols), the book assesses the extent to which Nietzsche¿s substantial rhetorical arsenal undermines the philosophical claims he is seeking to advance. The four case studies also bring to the fore some of the less palatable aspects of Nietzsche¿s thought such as racial stereotyping, the essentialising of a so-called slave mentality, and the ranking of human beings based on a highly idiosyncratic and prejudiced view of what qualifies as noble and ignoble.
