John Alliston, alias William Torrence loses his fortune in a gamble to double his fortunes. At the same time he is watched and later attached, losing everything-even his real identity. Then he is convicted of killing one of his gambling company. Eventually he earns his freedom, but his identity in England is covered by another, and his Father is murdered. Blake takes the solution of this murderer under task from Jack Alliston, grandson and heir apparent to Alliston Hall.

Dr. Huxton Rymer and Mademoiselle Yvonne Cartier join forces to steal bullion from Salvarita, Blake is on the case. Neither Blake nor Dr. Huxton Rymer know the real purpose of Yvonne-and certainly the President does not know why he is kidnapped! Yvonne has her reasons-she will be deterred by no one!

Featuring both criminal organizations, The German, Council of Eleven, and the Chinese, Brotherhood of the Yellow Beetle this is a fast action kidnapping of the British Munitions Minister. But while Sexton Blake breaks this case, he is himself kidnapped. As the foremost problem for Prince Wu Ling, his death will be a tribute in China. Lawrence Malone, private detective is hired by the three Crabbe bothers who believe they will be charged with the murder of their uncle. The case is almost open-and-shut against the youngest, a reckless lad. One complication is that there appeared to be no exit available to the killer. In any case, there are forces which don't want Malone to be on this mystery. His life is in peril.

Sir Alec Prendergast is forced to surrender his mother's pearls to cover gambling debts that were incurred due to swindling by Count Stefani and the Twisted Snake Gang. Nelson Lee advises Sir Alec to get a loan from Norman Warner, an honest moneylender but unbeknownst to all, his personal secretary, Cynthia Meadows is, in reality, Mrs. Stefani, also a convicted felon, and former member of the gang. She has been jailed-and by Nelson Lee. But she has also reformed; but once a member of the gang... Count Stefani has lost track of Cynthia but once he finds her, he has ways to steal the Prendergast Pearls held so safely in Norman Warner's safe.

Sir George Halliday, in China, is hunted by Wu Ling and The Brotherhood of the Yellow Beetle-to be killed before he can escape and return to England to warn the country about this criminal organization. He does escape, but is killed back in England upon his arrival. Since he is a friend and confident of Sexton Blake, there is reason enough for the detective to pursue. The inscrutable Orientals first kidnap Tinker and then Sir George's daughter. Their torture brings Blake to maddened heights of risk.
