  • - A History of Karate for Children
    von Andrew O'Brien
    46,00 €

Many books have been written about the origins of Karate-Do and the legendary masters who caused its meteoric rise into what has become a worldwide sporting phenomenon. Karate is practiced by tens of millions in over seventy countries.Although most of its practitioners are children, the majority of books that have been written are for adults. The Little Bubishi tells the story of karate and the amazing tales of its legendary masters in an enjoyable way that is intended for children. But the story is enjoyable for readers of all ages. The legends of Karate-Do are brought to life in its beautifully descriptive stories that tell of the heroics and steely determination that embody karate history. The peaceful philosophies behind this multi-layered martial art are too often overlooked, while its graphic fighting forms more often take center stage. Karate is explained simply, so children may gain a greater understanding of the true meaning and nature of Karate-Do.The Little Bubishi: A History of Karate for Children is essential reading for all young karate enthusiasts.Andrew Michael O'Brien has taught hundreds of children karate over three decades, and has always used storytelling to motivate them. "I also realized that no books like this have ever been written for children." He lives in Cardiff, Wales, and is working on his next two children's books.

Henry, his sister, and their mother live in Rockaway Queens near the beach, and Henry loves to escape to the boardwalk. He never knows what he will find there. One day, there might be a band playing music he's never heard. Another day, he might see a person riding around on a strange thing that looks like a giant tricycle, but has four wheels instead of three. And some days, Henry finds Allen, a local artist who uses recycled materials to make beautiful works of art and doesn't mind talking to kids. Those are Henry's favorite days. But the best day of all is the day Henry realizes what Allen's Second Hand Art can teach him about himself!Once they were broken and abandoned, but they can become beautiful in time. The Fifinella Log tells my true story of sailing around the world in a thirty-foot boat for four-and-a-half years. It describes terrible storms and three hurricanes encountered during the voyage, one of which in the Bay of Plenty off the north coast of New Zealand, damaged our boat Fifinella.During that two-day battle, Fifi lost three foresails, two mainsails, the self-steering vane, reefing pawl, a forestay, and other pieces of equipment, besides broken cupboards, destroyed books, charts, and food stocks. But it was not all like that. Weeks were spent drifting in the doldrums in energy-sapping heat, where you burnt above deck and baked below: where you gritted your teeth to cut off sharp retorts, trying to subjugate your anger and frustration to funnel it into positive action. The good times far outweighed the bad. We experienced the incredible charm of the English south coast, met many wonderful people, and visited exotic places, where we could pick breadfruit, bananas, and coconuts. We traded with islanders and made biltong from horsemeat, and dived and spear-fished our way up the Great Barrier Reef, enjoying the beauty of the Australian coast.Sailing on my own from Darwin to Durban via Christmas Island, Cocos Keeling, Seychelles, and the Comoros gave me time for introspection; I hope I am a better man for it. We had no fancy equipment, no satellite navigation aids. Our radio was basic and our funds minimal. We had a compass and a plastic sextant, navigation tables, charts, and a star chart. The sea is unforgiving and does not tolerate carelessness or mistakes. Be well prepared. Born in Portsmouth, England, Tom Edwards currently lives in Wangi Wangi, New South Wales, Australia. • - The Effects of Healthcare Consumerism and Patient Autonomy in the Digital Age on Physicians, Patients, Pharmacies, and Others in the Healthcare Industry
    von MD Mba Simbiso Ranga
    53,00 €

From the origins of consumerism to the evolution or revolution associated with consumerism in healthcare, this book is a reflective depiction of the past, present, and future of healthcare as it empowers the consumer (patient). The Impact of Autonomy and Consumerism in Healthcare navigates the changing healthcare landscape, navigating some of these changes and what they mean, not only for healthcare delivery, but for providers, suppliers, and consumers. It comments on new healthcare developments, including the mushrooming urgent care centers and walk-in clinics, as well as such technological developments as patient portals in electronic medical records. The book reflects on the challenges of opening up the healthcare infrastructure to the consumer, while raising issues about cyber security, privacy, and litigation. The authors attempt to predict the future, just as many physicians reluctantly do for their patients, in a chapter aptly titled "Prognosis."The book would not be complete without anecdotes and war stories from the authors' experiences in the field, presenting surprises and contradictions in their practice of medicine across the USA as immigrant physicians. Hopefully these powerful stories will help untangle the healthcare juggernaut and move toward a more empowered consumer. Simbiso Ranga, MD, MBA, is co-founder of Tru-Point Synergy Inc, an asset management company. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Zimbabwe and is a graduate of the Duke University Fuqua School of Business.Chris Oti, MD, MRCP (UK), FACP, MBA, started his career in the United Kingdom healthcare system.
