The format of Essential Human Histology departs considerably from that of the usual presentations on human tissue/organ biology. This presentation was not designed as a formal reference textbook but as a tool solely for students and is designed for rapid student learning as well as rapid review in preparation for USMLE examinations. Essential Human Histology focuses the beginning student's attention on the most important aspects of this discipline which are presented as a series of learning units. In general, the text follows the traditional and logical sequence of cells to tissues to organs, but within this sequence, the discussion on mitosis is presented immediately after the cell and discussion on meiosis just prior to a consideration of the reproductive systems. To understand human structural biology, it is essential to learn a specialized vocabulary and to assimilate a large body of facts. Learning, as distinct from memorization, depends to a great degree on repetition and reinforcement and is made easier if the material to be learned can be presented in discrete, manageable segments. The format of Essential Human Histology is designed specifically to meet these requirements and, if used properly, will enable the student to master this knowledge quickly and efficiently. La parution de ce livre a provoqué d'énormes remous en Haïti. Lors de sa présentation le 26 mai 2001, le gouvernement Aristide procéda violemment à l'arrestation de son auteur, Prosper Avril, un ancien président de ce pays. Au sujet de cet incident, Yves Colon, du Miami Herald, écrit ceci dans la livraison du 31 mai 2001 de ce journal : "En sa qualité d'ancien président et de général d'armée, Prosper Avril représentait une figure importante en Haïti. Aujourd'hui, ce grand-père de 64 ans se trouve dans le pénitencier bondé de Port-au-Prince... La semaine dernière, il s'était rendu dans un restaurant prisé d'une banlieue de la capitale pour signer des copies de son livre : Haïti: 1995-2000 -Le Livre Noir de l'Insécurité. L'ouvrage attribue une récente vague d'enlèvements, de hold-up, de vols, d'assassinats en Haïti à l'inefficacité de la force de police d'Aristide. Pendant qu'Avril signait les livres, des hommes lourdement armés et portant des masques noirs entrèrent dans le restaurant et s'emparèrent de sa personne."Visiblement furieux que quelqu'un ait osé critiquer sa gestion, l'ex-président Jean-Bertrand Aristide avait donc réagi violemment. Il met également en évidence l'irresponsable et scandaleuse attitude des autorités en place face à la situation, favorisant une totale impunité aux assassin's.Le 29 février 2004 mit fin au pouvoir Lavalas en Haïti. Alors, Jean-Bertrand Aristide n'étant plus au pouvoir pour bloquer les décisions de justice, Prosper Avril était libéré en vertu des nombreux arrêts ordonnant sa mise en liberté. Une fois libre, il a pris la décision de présenter au public cette deuxième édition de son livre, vu l'épuisement quasi-total du premier stock imprimé. L'auteur espère, par cette initiative, susciter l'intérêt international sur le sujet pour que les nouveaux dirigeants arrivent à trouver le support nécessaire pour la restauration d'une paix sociale véritable en Haïti.

This book is an overview of the United States legal system, with a brief introduction to Islamic and International law. The book is divided into six parts. Part I (The Legal System and Crime) introduces the U.S. legal system and the classification of crime. Part II (White Collar Crime) covers cybercrime, crime the old fashioned way, and healthcare fraud. Part III (Homicide) deals with simple murder, serial murder, mass and spree murder; and assassination. Part IV (Special Groups) covers the mafia; the family; the medical, legal, and teaching professions; the religion profession; celebrities; and stupid criminals. Part V (On the Edge) deals with topics I consider to be a bit strange; that is, quackery, innovative defenses, and dangerous cults. And finally, Part VI (Residue) discusses what is left ... capital punishment and crimes against humanity, including terrorism. Throughout the book, to illustrate points, I have used over 300 cases of actual crimes. The names of the people and the facts of the cases used in the discussions of these crimes are taken directly from referenced news reports.The subtitle, Computer Viruses to Twin Towers, reflects the scope of the book; that is, from computer viruses, which cause only aggravation or loss of money, to the deadly terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 that snuffed out almost 3000 lives.

This study explores pragmatic strategies in disagreement affected by power relations in Mandarin Chinese with data collected in the People's Republic of China.This study first investigates in what ways power relations in Chinese university settings influence pragmatic strategies in disagreement. The study then shows with natural data that a new cultural orientation characterized by new features has emerged among the Chinese people. Thirdly, the author probes the controversial issue of pragmatics and power, and proves that the maxim of Relevance can be taken as a supermaxim of CP, which dominates the analyses of the relationship between language use and social parameters.Si Liu has successfully initiated a combination of statistical analysis and ethnographic approach in pragmatic research. Her findings in the study are valuable contributions to the research both in Chinese culture and in empirical pragmatics.
