The USI of India Strategic Yearbook 2021 continues the writing excellence we have established since we started this publication in 2016. We have gained a respected reputation as a compendium of professionally researched and presented strategic issues of relevance to India, of both the current time and previous year. As earlier the book provides comprehensive researched articles on contemporary security studies by knowledgeable Indian strategic thinkers and scholars, both from the military and civil field. The articles deal with security issues covering international and domestic affairs presented in five thematic sections titled 'India's National Security Overview', 'Internal Security Issues', 'External Security: India's Strategic Neighbourhood', 'External Security: Pakistan-China Strategic Challenges' and 'National Security Capacity Building'. The articles deal with the existing paradigm of India's national security. They contribute to security studies in fields of international relations, geopolitics, changes in the character of war, technology, organisational changes and internal security threats and responses. They empower the reader to carry out further research on strategic studies. The Yearbook provides an increased "upstream" focus on defence and security policy practice for all military or civilian practitioners in the field and those researching strategic and security issues.

  • - Challenges in the 21st Century
    von Dr Mohit Nayal
    39,00 €

India's rise as a global power in the 21st century will be backed with a strong blue economy. The high volumetric trade activities through its coastal region, mainly due to its geostrategic location and efficient links with the vast potential market in the hinterland and other landlocked states, provides it unmatched leverage. Among such promising enterprising, attracting global investments and trade, the non-conventional security threats within the Indian Ocean region and India's ports and coast cannot be ignored. Therefore, to address these challenges, the law at the seas formulated by various global organisations and other national and international regulatory mechanisms become essential for all those directly or indirectly involved in India's maritime security. Over the years, many state coastal security agencies have evolved with specific potential and restrictions, which creates a certain conditionality of the existing non-conventional security challenges and maritime conflicts with its neighbours. The successful use of security-related technology to outpace such non-conventional threats creates a demand for further bolstering such technologies for India's advantage. Besides, these prevailing threats to the ports and coastal region, the environmental security challenges also directly impact humans and cannot be undermined. The book covers all these facets in detail, identifying the specific fault lines and makes recommendations to address the non-conventional security challenges of India's ports, coast and maritime trade. The book will be of interest to policymakers, academicians, practitioners, scholars, and all those individuals and institutes interested in India's Ports, Coastal and Maritime Security.

Geopolitical tension has significantly increased the risk of nuclear terrorism. Russia has modernized its arsenals and weapons. Notwithstanding the signing of NewSTART Agreement between the US and Russia (03 February 2021), Pentagon and the White House still follow confrontational policy towards Russia. Current disagreements and noncooperation on nuclear treaties are undermining what has been an understructure of coordination between the two states for nearly 50 years. On 03 February 2021, a Four Star US General warned that there was a "real possibility" the United States could end up in a nuclear conflict with China or Russia. Adm. Charles Richard, the head of US Strategic Command (STRATCOM), issued this stark warning in his article published in the US Naval Institute. President of the United States, Joe Biden guaranteed the security of his country by restoring US leadership on arms control. The Biden administration reventmenting three national security challenges-the COVID-19, Climate Change and Nuclear Terrorism. He needs to adopt a balanced policy towards Russia spick and span to normalize a friendly relationship and defeat radicalization, and extremism in Central Asia.
