There is a whole life being lived in the pages of this book.Relationships - between family member and friends, and between lovers - are at its core, as too is the natural world of sky and trees and birds and the realms of experience which memory and loss open up for all of us. Grief at the passing of parents, as well as profound attachment to a loved pet, are registered alongside a joyous and often humorous sense of day to day living. A deeply felt concern for the victims of war and injustice is another thread woven through the poetry in Under the Mop Top Tree, the entirety of which is characterised by an open-hearted embrace of what it means to be alive in this complex and multi-horizoned age. Vanessa Craven has produced a collection of poems that will relate to the lives of a wide range of readers.Ross Gillett

Upside down Knitting,Quick knits on straight needlesDolls ClothesTo fit43 - 46cm DollsI created these garments to fit the 46cm/18 inch Our Generation Dolls, and similar sized dolls. They have been created to enable the knitter to use their scraps of 8 ply yarn that they have left over from other projects. Of course, you are also able to buy a ball of 8 ply yarn to make them. On average I get two and sometimes three garments out of a 100g ball of yarn. It is fun to put together an outfit in the colours you like. Children love these garments and I have done my best to make them as play friendly as possible. In other words, it is easy for the little ones and the older children to dress and then undress their dolls. The most exceptional thing about these patterns is the fact that they are knitted on two needles, NO knitting in the round at all. I do not like knitting in the round be it on four needles or any other method. These patterns are worked from the neck down, I have used short rows to shape the garment where it is needed. I am sure that you will enjoy knitting these garments, and have fun doing so.

This book tells of a young couple who struggled against the odds to introduce a seaplane service to New Zealand's Marlborough Sounds, and to members of the travelling public between the South and North Islands.Locals looked askance at what was a totally new concept to the area, but the aeroplanes soon became accepted, especially after their lifesaving use in emergencies was recognised by people in the far-flung reaches of the outer Sounds.Russell Smith, owner and pilot, writes of years of incredible happenings, some adventurous, many humorous, and some just plain harrowing. One account bordering on surreal, occurred at a boat ramp where he was surrounded by nine policemen, accused of being a UFO from outer space! Unbelievable, but true, as is the whole book.
