The Tube: grimy, smelly, crowded, necessary and efficient. There were about 294 million passenger journeys recorded in 2016/17 on the Northern Line, making it the busiest on the Underground. We could perhaps describe the tube as a bitter remedy for transport.Emerging from this grime are some enlightening quotes that TFL (Transport for London) staff have placed at the entrance to some of the stations. It as if they are preparing the traveler for something deeper and higher. Many travelers like the quotes, they stop and take pictures. Blogs, social media, and websites have been set to share the quotes. But can we progress to a `higher dream', a higher reality from the quotes? The author has used the Northern Line on a daily commute for seven years, but he is also on another journey each day. The path to the direct understanding of reality as it is. In this book, 52 Tube stations on the Northern Line are photographed at dusk and dawn. Each is assigned a quote and the author reflects on the relevance of the quote to that journey. He also directs the reader to a rich set of free resources that he has made available. It has a particular emphasis on the Abhidhamma (higher reality) from the Theravada tradition of Buddhism.Promotional video: https://youtu.be/XeVEX9dGVTY

When trips to Vietnam, Taiwan and Thailand to study and share the Dhamma were cancelled due to Covid 19, Sarah Procter Abbot and husband Jonothan were delighted to assist Ajahn Sujin in offering zoom discussions which have been very beneficial to many people around the world. The "Jottings" that Sarah made are based on these Zoom discussions. These discussions are always about the understanding of what is real, what is Dhamma now, as taught by the Buddha. Without careful consideration of this truth, as opposed to our usual assumptions of the way things are, there will never be an end to ignorance in life.Quotes have been added from the Buddhist scriptures to each "jotting" to show how these discussions relate to the original teachings of the Buddha. This book is a shortened version of the book Understanding Life Now.

An Introduction to the Buddhist scriptures with the aim to encourage the reader to study the texts themselves. In that way they can verify that the Buddha's words were directed to the practice of what he taught, in particular to the development of right understanding of all phenomena of life. In the Appendix there is an enumeration of the texts of the Tipi¿aka and their commentaries with their translations into English. For the chapters many ideas were taken from lectures broadcast on a radio program in Thailand by Sujin Boriharnwanaket. She quotes extensively from all three parts of the scriptures, explains their meaning and inspires people to relate them to their daily life. If the texts are studied only with the purpose of intellectual understanding, we will fail to see the message they contain for our life at this moment and we do not understand the goal of the Buddha's teachings. It is a follow-up to Nina van Gorkom 's book "The Buddha's Path".

Why do we do what we do? why do we see what we see? Seeing, attachment, generosity, all experiences in life can arise only because of a concurrence of conditions. This book is an introduction to the seventh book of the Abhidhamma, that deals with the conditionality of life. It explains the deep underlying motives for all actions through body, speech and mind and shows that these are dependent on conditions and cannot be controlled by a 'self'. The study of conditions is indispensable for understanding the teaching of the 'Dependent Origination' and the meaning of the Buddha's teaching of non-self. This book is suitable for those who have already made a study of the Buddha's teachings.
