Autonomy and Freedom in The Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals

"Autonomy is therefore the foundation of the dignity of human nature and of all rational nature" (KANT, 1960, p. 79). Thus, the autonomous and free man defended by Kant is characterised as a moral being, unconditioned by the will of others and independent. In this way, postulating a moral imperative, he also considers autonomous freedom in other human beings, and aims universally at a set of goods for human dignity and not for selfish satisfaction.
