Babbitt-Ilmenite composite is fabricated via stir casting under controlled conditions.The process variables which include percentage weight of reinforcement,stirring speed ,aging time,applied load,sliding distance and sliding speed were optimized for enhancing the tribo-mechanical properties of the composite using Taguchi philosophy.The response variables include mechanical properties such as Hardness,Impact strength , tensile strength and tribological properties include wear loss and coefficient of friction. Taguchi orthogonal arrays were designed using MINITAB software to maximize the mechanical properties and minimize wear loss and coefficient of friction of the developed composite.

Es werden Anstrengungen unternommen, um einen kostengünstigen Babbitt/Ilmenit-Verbundwerkstoff unter kontrollierten Bedingungen zu entwickeln und eine experimentelle Untersuchung und Optimierung der tribomechanischen Eigenschaften des hergestellten Verbundwerkstoffs mit Hilfe der Taguchi-Philosophie durchzuführen. In dem Buch wird über die Verbesserung der tribomechanischen Eigenschaften des Babbitt/Ilmenit-Verbundwerkstoffs unter den optimierten Bedingungen im Vergleich zur Zinn-Babbitt-Legierung berichtet. Der Bedarf an kostengünstigen, hochleistungsfähigen neuen Werkstoffen für modernste technische Anwendungen steigt ständig. Die in diesem Buch berichteten Ergebnisse würden nicht nur Forscher zu weiteren Untersuchungen anregen, sondern auch Industrielle dazu ermutigen, den Verbundwerkstoff in großem Maßstab für Schwerlast- und Hochgeschwindigkeitsbuchsen in der Automobil- und Luftfahrtindustrie zu relativ geringen Kosten herzustellen.

Un effort est fait pour développer un composite Babbitt/Ilménite à faible coût, coulé par agitation dans des conditions contrôlées, et pour réaliser une étude expérimentale et une optimisation des propriétés tribomécaniques du composite fabriqué en utilisant la philosophie de Taguchi. L'amélioration des caractéristiques tribomécaniques du composite Babbitt/Ilménite dans les conditions optimisées par rapport à l'alliage étain-Babbitt est rapportée dans le livre. La demande de nouveaux matériaux à faible coût et à haute performance dans les applications d'ingénierie de pointe ne cesse de croître. Les résultats présentés dans cet article devraient non seulement inciter les chercheurs à poursuivre leurs recherches, mais aussi encourager les industriels à fabriquer le composite à grande échelle pour les coussinets à forte charge et à grande vitesse dans les applications automobiles et aérospatiales, à un coût relativement faible.

Se ha realizado un esfuerzo para desarrollar un compuesto de Babbitt/Ilmenita de bajo coste, moldeado por agitación, en condiciones controladas y para llevar a cabo una investigación experimental y una optimización de las propiedades tribo-mecánicas del compuesto fabricado utilizando la filosofía Taguchi. En el libro se informa de la mejora de las características tribo-mecánicas del compuesto Babbitt/Ilmenita en las condiciones optimizadas en comparación con la aleación Tin-Babbitt. La demanda de nuevos materiales de bajo coste y alto rendimiento en aplicaciones de ingeniería de vanguardia es cada vez mayor. Los resultados presentados en este artículo no sólo atraerán a los investigadores para que realicen nuevas investigaciones, sino que también animarán a los industriales a fabricar el material compuesto a gran escala para bujes de alta carga y alta velocidad en aplicaciones aeroespaciales y de automoción a un coste relativamente bajo.

È stato fatto uno sforzo per sviluppare un composito Babbitt/Ilmenite colato in stir cast a basso costo in condizioni controllate e per condurre un'indagine sperimentale e l'ottimizzazione delle proprietà tribo-meccaniche del composito fabbricato utilizzando la filosofia Taguchi. Il libro riporta il miglioramento delle caratteristiche tribomeccaniche del composito Babbitt/Ilmenite alle condizioni ottimizzate rispetto alla lega Stagno-Babbitt. La richiesta di materiali nuovi a basso costo e ad alte prestazioni nelle applicazioni ingegneristiche d'avanguardia è in costante aumento. O livro relata a melhoria das características tribo-mecânicas do compósito de Babbitt/Ilmenite nas condições optimizadas em comparação com a liga de Tin-Babbitt. Existe uma procura cada vez maior de novos materiais de baixo custo e elevado desempenho em aplicações de engenharia de ponta. Os resultados apresentados neste artigo não só atraem os investigadores para novas investigações, como também encorajam os industriais a fabricar o compósito em grande escala para cargas pesadas e casquilhos de alta velocidade em aplicações automóveis e aeroespaciais a um custo relativamente baixo.

An effort is made to develop stir casted low cost Babbitt/Ilmenite composite under controlled conditions and to carry out experimental investigation and optimization of the tribo-mechanical properties of the fabricated composite using Taguchi philosophy. The improvement in the tribo-mechanical characteristics of the Babbitt/Ilmenite composite at the optimized conditions in comparison to the Tin-Babbitt alloy is reported in the book. There is an ever increasing demand of low cost high performance novel materials in cutting-edge engineering applications. The results reported in the paper would not only attract researchers for further investigations but also encourage industrialists to manufacture the composite on large scale for heavy load and high speed bushings in automobile and aerospace applications at relatively low cost.
