Housing By Voluntary Enterprise (1903) by James Parsons is a book that explores the issue of housing in early 20th century England. Parsons argues that the government's approach to housing is inadequate and that private individuals and organizations should take a more active role in providing affordable and decent housing for the working classes. He examines various examples of successful housing initiatives by voluntary organizations and individuals, and provides practical advice for those looking to start their own housing projects. The book also delves into the social and economic benefits of improving housing conditions, and highlights the importance of community involvement in housing initiatives. Overall, Housing By Voluntary Enterprise is a thought-provoking and informative read for anyone interested in the history of housing and social reform in England.Being Chiefly An Examination Of The Arguments Concerning The Provision Of Dwelling Houses By Municipal Authorities Under Part 3 Of The Housing Of The Working Classes Acts. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The disappearance of Sir John Franklin's Arctic expedition of 1845 led to many rescue attempts, some by the British government and some by private individuals, as well as a large number of works recounting these expeditions and reflecting on the mystery. Little is known about the author of this 1857 work, James Parsons. He begins this dramatic account by noting that the disappearance of a large and well-equipped party is almost unprecedented in the Arctic: nothing certain was known about Franklin's fate twelve years after the last recorded sighting. Parsons' speculations derive from a knowledge of naval practice, and familiarity with the seas and climate of the Arctic region and the records of earlier expeditions. He offers practical suggestions about a new attempt using steam-boats, but knows that this will be to find out what actually happened, because there could now be no possibility of finding survivors.
