This volume is the fourth in a series of genealogy books that I have been working on for several years. It focuses on the Insúa and Harguindey clans, who were my mother's relatives and lived in Buenos Aires and surroundings areas. I have tried to collect and preserve the stories, photos and documents that tell the history of these families and their descendants in this book.

One of the Fifteen Million, first published in 1952, is Ukrainian Nicholas Prychodko's sobering account of his arrest, imprisonment, torture, and eventual exile to Siberia by the Soviet government in the late 1930s. As the author states, his offense was "thinking free thoughts in a slave state." In a near-miracle, his mother traveled to Moscow and the Kremlin, and was able to win a pardon for her son from a sympathetic official. Making his way back to the Ukraine, Prychodko found work as a teacher, but again facing arrest, he decides to go into hiding rather than face years of hard labor in the Siberian gulag. In a strange twist of fate, the approaching German army in 1941 proved to be his salvation, and the author begins a journey to freedom in Canada.

Detailed descriptions of the region's flora, fauna and beautiful landscapes provide a backdrop to accounts of their daily lives, relationships and hardships. In July 2021 I met with the authors of this unique volume - Conor Cook and Grace Brown. This was an unusual interview with a pair of authors.We met in the home of my son, Bruce Cook and reminisced over extracts from historical collections about homes of the David C. Cook family - my father David C. Cook III, my Grandfather David C. Cook II, and my Great Grandfather - David C. Cook I -often called "The Friend of the Sunday School."Now, to be honest, Conor and Grace are my grandchildren, and I love their talent for writing. And, while we got together to share historical vignettes, I should mention that we also enjoyed my son's barbeque cooking and a plate of cookies just prepared by his wife and my daughter, Helen Brown. And, thanks to my wife, Mary Homeier Cook, for suggesting this book.

This book is a combination of my two previous books. Memories and Poems from a Sunny Clime published in 2016 and my book of poems published in 2017.

The child in the mirror is a compilation of poems encompassing the struggles of a troubled childhood; a childhood of abuse, a childhood of neglect and a childhood bordering on suicidal intent. These poems were created to build an awareness of atrocities toward children, while also giving a voice to the voiceless. They also encapsulate the reality of love and loss at a tender age, which have a serious impact on children in their formative years. These poems also expose the horrific realities of a broken home, leading to stressful mental and physical trauma. They also bring into focus what is in the mind of a child, but with the introspection of a middle aged adult. Interestingly, it would appear that it is at this mature stage in life, that adults tend to muster the courage to open up about painful events in their past. The aim is that even one person will benefit from reading this book and realize that there is hope, despite adversity.
