Under the general topic of "The Third Reich in archaeology and monument preservation", the articles deal with the [satellite] concentration camps at Dachau, Flossenbürg, Grunskirchen and Lety, the monumental significance of Nazi relics in Austria and Upper Austria in particular, the history of research and methodological considerations on excavations at Nazi sites in Bavaria, contemporary archaeology and ethical and moral behaviour, evaluation of and questions about finds from former Nazi camps, finds from Obersalzberg, euthanasia victims from Hartheim Castle, the RAD camp at Regensburg-Brandlberg, the Lower Bavarian satellite concentration camps, the Nazi find complex at Plattling, a burial site at Blato, South Bohemia, crash sites of American military planes in eastern Austria, relics of the 1939-45 air war, settlements in the Czech border region deserted after 1945, remains of the Regensburg synagogue and excavations in Dachau and Hebertshausen. The book concludes with a bibliography and an index of participants and authors.
In recent decades, there has been an increasing focus on elucidating the details of Christianisation processes in the Roman Empire. While there are several studies dealing with the relationship of war and Christianity in Late Antiquity, there are hardly any works which concentrate on the change in cult practices in the Roman army. The present volume is therefore dedicated to precisely this topic. It traces the development of the Christianisation of the army cult, shows that the area of responsibility of the later soldier-saints was already prefigured in Late Antiquity, and explains why officers still acted as cult functionaries at the end of the 6th century.

This is a record of window glass making by the Company of Pilkington Brothers, at Grove Street, St. Helens from 1826 to 1952.St. Helens is in England in the South of Lancashire at what was in the old days the junction of the roads from Liverpool to Bolton and from Warrington to Ormskirk. It grew up from 1700 onwards, as a product of the industrial revolution when it was found to have coal and sand in its immediate vicinity with salt nearby. The construction of a canal and then a railway helped to found glass and chemical industries, copper works and foundries, all of which grew steadily through the 1800s.There are three periods in history of glass making at Grove Street, the first being what I will call the "Manual Age" from about the 17th. Century to 1930, the second being the "Mechanical Age" from 1930 to 1958 and then from 1958 the "Technological Age", epitomised by the making of glass by the float process.The record is wholly about the sheet and rolled glass making factory known as Sheet Works, located in St. Helens at Grove Street only a short distance from the town centre. It was the birth place of the Company of Pilkington Brothers when it was originally founded as the St. Helens Glass Company in 1826 who started glass making under the Old Cone or No. 1 House, near to the banks of the St. Helens canal.

Dessen Umzug aus der Fasanenstraße ins Schloss Charlottenburg bot den willkommenen Anlass für eine aktualisierte Neuauflage des seit längerem vergriffenen Titels.

Seine Popularität rührte sicher auch daher, dass die Geschichten ganz beiläufig den historischen und Welthorizont der Leser enorm zu erweitern vermochten.Die Geschichte dieser 'Bilderzeitschrift' steht in einer merkwürdigen Wechselbeziehung mit der politischen Geschichte der DDR, obwohl oder gerade weil Hannes Hegens MOSAIK sich betont unpolitisch gab. Die Abenteuer der Digedags spiegeln die Ereignisse, die um sie bzw. ihren Schöpfer herum geschahen. Dies anhand der Quellen nachzuzeichnen, den einen oder anderen Entstehungszusammenhang offenzulegen und dabei vielleicht auch eine Erklärung für die Herausbildung des Mythos' um Johannes Hegenbarths Werk und seine Figuren zu finden, soll hier versucht werden.

Anders als Thomas Steinfeld in seiner Merkur-Rezension ist Eva Geulen ganz und gar nicht damit einverstanden, wie Erhard Schüttpelz in seinem Buch "Deutland" die Geschichte der Literaturwissenschaft seit mehr als hundert Jahren abzuräumen versucht. Mit der Rolle von Essens-, genauer: Besteckszenen als Klassismus-Anzeigern in der neueren Literatur beschäftigt sich Carlos Spoerhase. Mit abstraktem soziologischem Instrumentarium nähert sich Stefan Hirschauer der Eskalation des Israel-Palästina-Konflikts dann doch immer wieder durchaus konkret. Sandro Paul Heidelbach wirft den Blick der Zukunft auf die Gegenwart des Anthropozän. Zugespitzte Physiognomien des Faschismus und des Nationalsozialismus entwirft Moritz Rudolph. In Susanne Neuffers Erzählung "Hingabe und Verzückung" kommt es zu einer Wiederbegegnung mit einem Angehimmelten bei einem Missionskongress.
This book investigates the role that cinemas in Brazil, Chile and Argentina have played in reconstructing memories of the most recent military dictatorships. These countries have undergone a distinctive post-dictatorship experience marked by unprecedented debates about human rights violations, the silencing of victims and accountability for state crimes. Meanwhile, politically committed filmmakers have created an extensive body of work addressing the dictatorship and its aftermath. This book employs a transnational and comparative approach to examine the strategies that these filmmakers have used to render visible what has remained hidden, to make reappear what has disappeared, and to reinterpret historical actors and events from a contemporary perspective. Through attention to the specific properties of the medium and the socio-historical context in which films have been made, it describes the different cinematic modes of remembering that emerged in response to wider memory frameworks in South America.
