Das Anthropozan mit der Idee der systemischen Zusammenhange von Mensch, Technologie und Umwelt ist durch Komplexitat und disproportionale Skalierungseffekte von planetarischem und tiefenzeitlichem Ausmass gekennzeichnet. Der Band zeigt, mit welchen Strategien Literatur und Kunst die Komplexitat des Anthropozan auf menschliches Mass beziehen.

Auf Basis des Ecocriticism analysiert der Band literarische Repräsentationen des Umweltwandels im 20./21. Jahrhundert. Im Zentrum stehen die engen Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Mensch und Umwelt sowie die Frage nach ästhetischen Möglichkeiten einer nicht-anthropozentrischen Darstellung von Natur.
