Diotima

Über Diotima

This is a play by the author of Purgatorio, In the Twilight, and In the Land of Myth. This drama takes place in the latter part of the eighteenth century and the early part of the nineteenth century, a period highlighted by the French Revolution and the rise of Napoleon, while in German lands the arts blossomed as never before in Europe since the golden ages of ancient Greece. The protagonists of this play are the poet Friedrich Hölderlin and his deeply beloved Diotima, with their encounter proving tragic for both. Excerpts from the Online Book Club reviewing the author's previous book of poems titled In the Land of Myth: "From observing the waves of the Aegean shore to the murmurs of the trees, every scene was painted perfectly to invite a corresponding mood." "The author confidently uses his knowledge of Greek mythology, history, culture, and geography in his poems."
