Dracula is depressed. He's done almost everything one could imagine, lost hundreds of friends over the years, and had enough of this life. Walking through the graveyard, he considers the dead the lucky ones.
And if that was not enough, his dear friend, Zacharia, who has used a piece of his soul to extend his precious cat's life, ends up being sucked inside the cat when he is killed.
Additionally, evil vampires are killing people willy-nilly. The Master has trained Red Sheriffs to care for that sort of thing, but they are vastly outnumbered. And did I mention that Dracula has a biting sense of humor?
