Everyone knows which side to take. Which force is for the betterment of humanity. "We hold these truths to be self-evident", as the Americans would say. Until now.
What if there were other forces at play? Double-agendas. Grey areas around means and ends. What if pain is inevitable and tough love is required, in order for humanity to not only survive, but to break free of invisible bonds, to discover new freedoms and power.
Sixteen-year-old Envy Black has spent her life as an ordinary girl. That is all about to change. Strange things are beginning to happen, leaving her questioning her own sanity.
She moves home to Australia with her parents and begins to unravel the truth about her past and what that means for her future.
When her seventeenth birthday approaches her new life becomes much more disturbing and with it a darker, more dangerous side to Envy emerges into a world that she never knew existed.
