Stadt, Land, Kneipe ist ein schelmischer Episodenroman, der in der Hauptstadt beginnt und im bayrischen Dorf endet. Im Sommer 2020 wurde München mit Schanigärten botanisiert. Im Zuge der COVID-19-Pandemie wurde Improvisation ein legitimes Mittel und Architektur ohne Architekten kehrte in die Stadt zurück. Für "Schanitown" driftete der Architekt Alexander Fthenakis mit seiner Kamera durch die neuen Landschaften und fotografierte die fliegenden Bauten. Die repräsentative Auswahl gliedert und beschreibt er typologisch. Der Stadtplaner Jonas König (TU Berlin) steuert einen Essay über das Phänomen und seine Temporalitäten bei. Dabei wandert er vom Schah zum Schani und zurück, und rückt das Lokale in übergeordnete Zusammenhänge. Beiden Autoren merkt man bei aller Sachlichkeit die Freude am Gegenstand an und ein humorvoller Grundton begleitet das Buch.

Leaking Subjects and Bounding Boxes addresses the ways in which machines are disciplined and trained to see. It is a visual account that documents the methods currently used to teach AI to capture, classify, and order the world but instead considers everything in our lives, embodiments, and desires that defies these normative modes of categorization. That is, it pauses to reflect upon that which continually flickers in and out of any possible taxonomization and exists only at the very edge of definition.This book is one outcome Elisa Giardina Papa's ongoing visual and theoretical research into machinic vision. It presents images which the artist began collecting in the winter of 2019 while working as a human trainer for various AI vision systems. Among the thousands of training images she processed for her tasks as a "data-cleaner," she collected those which seemed to resist AI's orderly impulse.Segmenting, tracing, bounding-boxing, and labeling are key operations used to teach machines to separate data from data, signal from noise, and orderly things from disorderly ones. This collection of images is an invitation to reflect on what it means to practice a disorder of seeing and being which radically resists the normative impulse to divide and classify, to create hierarchies and produce difference. In other words, this book is an invitation to consider the ways in which all things that are opaque and promiscuous, heretical and unfaithful will perpetually upset orderly, idealized, transparent, and supposedly "universal" categories.

"Prishtina in 53 Buildings" draws a multifaceted portrait of Kosovo's capital city by using architecture as a prism to understand political, cultural and economic processes. Essays on fifty-three built structures, written by different authors with different geographical background and different professional perspective, add up to multilayered account of the city's history and present. The texts include architectural analyses, political reflections, ethnographic observations and personal memories. Taken together, however, they allow for an understanding of the ambiguous and conflicting processes that are propelling urban development not only in Prishtina. Buildings are not only the materialization of design principles or architectonic ideas, but the outcome of socio-economic processes. By conceptualizing architecture as materialization of societal processes, "Prishtina in 53 Buildings" pushes beyond notions that assume an intrinsic and coherent 'logic' of cities. The editors Donika Luzhnica and Jonas König show that a polyphonic approach is more apposite to depict the often-contradictory trajectories of urban development. What holds true for cities in general, is in particular applicable for post-conflict cities like Prishtina. EditorsDonika Luzhnica is an architect based in Zurich and Prishtina, where she co-founded Ars Atelie. Her award-winning research on the reactivation of Gërmia, a former department store in Prishtina, was featured at Architecture Biennale 2021 in Venice.
