To help children realize that pets are not much different from them, and that a commitment to a pet is very important and special. I would like to encourage children to have a pet, and that pets can be fun as well as a commitment. If a pet is treated with love, respect and care, the love and devotion in return is incredible.

Lucy is a little red fox who has a secret; she can fly. Her heart soars when she takes to the skies. One afternoon, after her fellow foxes see her flying, they shame her, yelling, "Everyone knows that foxes can''t fly." Lucy hears their words and for a brief moment, believes them, and falls to the ground. This only reinforces her self-doubt. She begins to lose her playful spunk and the sheen of her coat grows duller by the day. Lucy has become a sad, disheartened, and disempowered little fox. One night the wise old story fox appears out of the forest to share an evening of foxlore with Lucy''s pack. He tells the story of Milton, a young fox that was long ago banished from the land for learning to swim like a fish. It was the banishment of Milton that gave rise to the popular saying used by older foxes when they see the young ones straying, "You don''t want to end up like Milton, remember, ..." and they chant, "Neither fox nor fish." The old story fox''s tale unsettles Lucy. After tossing and turning and trying to sleep (counting sheep doesn''t work for a fox), Lucy goes to the pond for a drink. There, she meets the wise old story-fox. Through the magic of this encounter, she learns to believe in herself again, her paws lift from the ground and she, once again, points her nose up and takes to the skies.

In Frog Knights (book one of the lavishly illustrated Kingdom of Frogavia series - book two, Frogavia!Frogavia!, is also available from Trafford Publishing) frogs are depicted as characters in their own world - the big pond known as The Kingdom Of Frogavia. The true king is unseated from his ancient throne and banished to a far, distant pond by the evil, ambitious Dax Frogditch who has gathered a huge army with promises of ''a better life ...''.The years of Frogditch''s bullying ways and tyrannical rule stretch on and the Frogavian people grow increasingly restless and unhappy. Finally, a group of brave young rebels rise up and go in search of their true king. They eventually find him and he dubs them all ''knights'' in gratitude for their loyalty. The king then shows them how to weave reeds and grasses into costumes, so they are dressed as knights. After driving Frogditch out of Frogavia, Sir Robert Ribbet, Sir Fergus Leapingfrog, Sir Morton Muddybottom, Sir Frederick Hopper, Sir Barry Bluepond and the other knights escort King Francis, Queen Fiona and their two daughters Princess Flora and Princess Fay back to Frogavia. The knights dive deep into Castle Pond to retrieve the King''s ancient throne. It lies in pieces on the muddy bottom where Frogditch dumped it long ago along with the King''s treasure: magical holed stones that give protection from evil. Many Frogavian families were poor and destitute under Frogditch''s heartless rule. Robin Froghood and his friend, Littlefrog raid Frogditch''s own well-stocked kitchen and take food to give to the poor. When the King hears about their good work he bestows knighthoods on them too. In Frogditch''s time, no flowers bloomed in Frogavia. The lily pads were shrivelled and brown, the pond waters were murky and it became a dark, gloomy place. But, now even as the Knights escort the King and his family back to Castle Frogrock, the beautiful waterlilies burst into blossom on the azure blue waters of Castle Pond. Other flowers join in and bloom all over the rocky castle in colorful abundance. As in the days of old, the Good King invites every one of his subjects to his many celebrations and happy frog songs echo once again across Castle Pond.Buy a t-shirt and other great Frogavia gear at www.cafepress.com/frogavia and www.frogavia.spreadshirt.com.

This collection of short stories, anecdotes and pictures, dating back to the early 1900''s, sets out part of the history of the settlement of Healey Lake and of some of the first settlers on its shoreline. As well, it acknowledges many of the present members of the Healey Lake community that chose to give their stories. Many families of the first "pioneers" are into their fourth generation and these descendants are enjoying the Lake and the cottages built by their great-grandparents. As so many of the properties are passing on to the next generation, it is important to preserve these histories. Not only will this book be of interest to newcomers, but it is for these new generations; that they may remember how their "ancestors," with hard work and humour, with their love of this land and water, overcame the difficulties and challenges in accessing the lake and in building their cottages and homes so that they also could enjoy the peace and beauty of Healey Lake and maintain its integrity. It is with pleasure that we pass on these interesting tales and, as you read them, we hope you too will do so with the same interest and enjoyment.

Which of us has forgotten our childhood to the extent that we cannot remember, at one time or another, feeling too small, too tall, too thin, or "too anything", as the author puts it. Every child experiences these feelings in some form, quite often, as is the case here, because of a perceived failure to live up to expectations. Just like the little Theo, children often need their parents'' reassurance of who they are and just how important they are, whatever their individual characteristics may be. The book speaks on a level of the target audience in order for them to understand his reactions.

Writing Centres, Writing Seminars, Writing Culture: Writing Instruction in Anglo-Canadian Universities brings together insights into the history of how writing has been taught in Canadian universities alongside profiles of how specific university academic units teach writing today. Engineering courses, writing centers, and writing programs are all represented, each one providing different models of how writing can be taught within their specific academic context. The editorsÕ introduction, an essay surveying current practices throughout Canadian universities, and the Afterword by Russ Hunt suggest ways of making sense of the tangled garden that is the teaching of writing in Canadian universities.
