"Heritage today", through the thematic stations it suggests, is a stopover at the places and moments where a "historical" linearity - which has geometrised our way of understanding our past - breaks down, in order to reinvent the reflexes by which peoples access culture and civilisation. Monuments, museums, cemeteries, sanctuaries, archives, collections, emblems, commemorations, festivals and anniversaries are all places of memory that ensure that past memories are brought to the surface and constantly staged to reproduce collective meaning.
